Password Change from Windows machines ("You do not have permission to change your password")
Hello,
I just wasted several hours trying to figure out why I could not
change Samba passwords from Windows XP computers. I'm posting here so
that there is some form of documentation about this on the web.
My setup is basically this:
- Samba 3.3.2 (running under Ubuntu 9.04)
- OpenLDAP user database
- Full O.S. support for OpenLDAP auth, using nsswitch and PAM.

multiple sessions to same destination
Hi All,
I had a look in archives but no joy.
I just want to know before i deploy - if there is any problem with having
multiple rsync sessions from many source locations all to same destination
server ( all copying to different file systems obviously ) ?? Its jusat that
i see on the destination machine a process rsync -server being called
whenever a client connects.
Thanks !

Problem with checksum failing on large files
I'm having a problem with large files being rsync'd twice because of the
checksum failing. The rsync appears to complete on the first pass, but then
is done a second time (with second try successful). When some debug code was
added to receiver.c, I saw that the checksum for the remote file & the temp
file do not match on the first try, so (as expected) it repeats the rsync &

Rsync synchronizes unchanged files
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I wish to use rsync to synchronize a whole fat32 (MSWindows) partition
mounted into a linux system. I run rsync from linux.
The problem is rsync synchronizes most of the data even if the data hasn't
changed since the original image was made.
I used the -avz parameters to do the backup and the same for restoration.
Also I've tried just -rvz. It

setuids mount option broke
Hello,
I'm trying to export a /home/ partition for multiple users, using
Samba and the setuids option. My goal is to deliver emails into
$HOME/.Maildir/ for each user. So I mount the share as user "root",
hoping that each user will be able to use their own home directory (just
like an NFS /home/ mount). (This feature depends on the Unix extensions.)
I have the

OpenSSH + chroot + SELinux = broke
Hello,
First, a big thank you to the OpenSSH devs.

Server writes...?
I have a quick question about rsync's writing of files.
I have a team of people that all use the host BigServer, which is
running rsync as a deamon, as a central place to keep all shared files
backed up. The "master copy" for any given file is considered to be the
local file that somebody has worked on -- i.e., BigServer is NOT
considered the master copy. BigServer is the backup

RE: Setting up a routed DMZ -CLOSED
My sincere apologies to all on this list. After looking for returning
packets with tcpdump and not finding ANY I called our provider to
confirm our IP assignment. The IP range that I was given by my boss was
incorrect. After adjusting the ip assignments, everything is working
perfectly. Thank you all for your time in troubleshooting this, and I
hope to be able to return the favor at some

"Doh!", or: The Sync'ing Feeling I Get With Recursion
This message describes (imho) a behaviour bug in rsync. I'm going
to submit a patch, but before I dive into the code I want to know what the
actual desired behaviour should be. In other words, please comment.
I have some directories I want to keep synchronised between two
machines (call them "master" and "backup").

Setting up a routed DMZ
Hello all,
I''ve read the shorewall guides and browsed through the mailing
lists, but I haven''t been able to find out if the following is possible
or not using shorewall.
Our provider has given us 16 IPs + 4 in a separate range for our uplink.
I would like to replace that router with a Linux box running shorewall
with three interfaces. I want the DMZ to be a standard, routed

Citrix Help?
Hi all,
Anybody has configured a Shorewall firewall to protect Citrix servers?
Could you give us some clue on the rules you have to define?
Citrix opens a connection from the inside to the outside from a
different port (more or less like ftp) and seems not works.
Regards

SNAT multiple IP to single internal IP and limiting access based on external IP
Hello all,
I have shorewall setup with 3 SNAT entries for external IP address''s to
a single IP internal address. I am wondering how to limit access based
on the source IP address.
ex.
EXT IP 1 access only to port 25
EXT IP 2 access only to port 443
EXT IP 3 access only to port 80
I have the SNAT setup correctly and I have 3 accept line in the rules
file (25,80,443) but I can hit

Feature request
The sshd server has what I think is a serious flaw. There appears to be no way to turn off remote command execution. (someone please correct me if I am wrong).
We have a server which uses a chroot jail, and rbash to severely limit what users can do on our system. The remote command bypasses all of that.
ie. ssh user at host cat /etc/passwd will display the password file for the live system
