net view work alike
Hi all, Is there a command that emulates net view? I want to dump a list of all NetBIOS hosts actively on the LAN. Thanks, -- Christopher Barry Manager of Information Systems InfiniCon Systems http://www.infiniconsys.com office:610.233.ISIS (4747) direct:610.233.4870 cell:267.879.8321

Thanks for help with hosts file
All (Tom especially), Thanks for correcting my hosts file faux pas. I think I now (kinda) know how this file is used. Can I use this to control what subnets can get NAT''ed out and back through the net zone? For instance, with nothing in it every network inside can get out without a problem. If I do specify networks in it, is it true that only those specified can get out and back?

security = domain and NetBIOS aliases
Hi everyone, I rely on about 8 NetBIOS aliases on my samba filer. I have been using security = server, but I have been running to some strange issues where if a user just logs off and then back on, they are denied access to shares. If they reboot, they can then get back in ok. I've set debugging up, and it appears that samba does not recognize the user after a logoff/logon, and uses nobody as

What's the best method - probably simple
Hi all, I'm testing out a pdf printer script I'm writing on a live samba system. I modify the script, but my changes do not seem to show up when I print. It seems like samba is caching the script. I do not want to restart samba (I'm guessing that will disconnect people), but I want to force samba to re-read the new script. I'm guessing I can HUP whatever smb process is open for

Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone! I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our linux users. I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our email needs).

About Shorewall 1.3.14
It is my plan that the upcoming release of Shorewall (1.3.14) will definitely be the last of the 1.3.x releases and will very probably be the last release of Shorewall 1.x.x. I will continue to support Shorewall 1.3 but will be making no more enhancements to it. I will be devoting my time to Shorewall 2. If anyone is interested in taking over the development of Shorewall 1, please let me

nmbd question
Hi everyone, I know that there are issues with NetBIOS across subnets, but I was wondering: Q: If I run nmbd on a multi-interface Linux router, and allow it to listen on all interfaces, and pointing all clients to their respective router interface, can it effectively serve WINS to all subnets such that everyone can browse everyone? Samba-3.0 and the --with-msdfs compile flag
Hi all, First, I'm no longer on the list, so please CC me if you reply to the group. I've hunted around, but I cannot find anything about this. The --with-msdfs compile flag is not present in ./configure --help. Is dfs built now by default? OR - is it no longer supported? Mapping samba shares to a second linux box
Hi, I have a very frustrating problem and I can't seem to find a solution. I am running redhat 8.0GPL and samba 2.2.8 on two linux boxes. The first linux box is my storage (used by multiple pc's). The second is my web-server running apache and php. The web-server recieves files which are meant to be stored to the first linux box and processed by other computers on the network. The

Disabling symlink following client side?
Is there any way to specify in smb.conf that you don't want to follow symbolic links, or to somehow disable this in smbclient? I have an smb file indexer, and whenever it hits a linux box with a symlink pointing to the current directory, it creates thousands of extra entries. I'd like to be able to simply not follow symbolic links, as I have no way of disabling the "follow

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share, put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without going through any

for what it's worth, I think I have inadvertently solved an old problem...
All, For the longest time I was having this strange folder recursion problem. It persisted through many samba upgrades.
