Samba 3.0.0 beta2 Aurora SPARC Linux rpm binary
I have taken your samba-3.0.0beta2-1.src.rpm, added a little sparc thingy tp the spec file, and made a "new" src.rpm, and a sparc binary rpm. NTW, Aurora SPARC Linux is based on Red Hat Linux, currently ansel release on 7.3 and a work-in-progress on 9, see auroralinux.org. If you want them, how do I upload them? Cheers, /ChJ

Help with making samba-3.0.0 PDC and adding a XP/Pro client (and domain user accounts)
I would like to understand how to make my samba-3.0.0 (-15, from Fedora Core 1) a PDC and how to make a XP/Pro box member of that domain and to add a domain user account, and eventually to ad a few more linux boxen as domain members into that domain. This is the output of the PDC box testparm (the PDC box has two eth interfaces, only eth1 (192.168.1.* and 127.0.0.1 should access the PDC):

Samba read and write exporting a vfat partition from linux/intel
I'm running Red Hat Linux 5.0/Intel with samba-1.9.18p7-50.1. The PC I have has a hard disk with a /dev/hda1 which is a Win 95 partition and a /dev/hda3 which is a Linux partition. The mount looks like this: /dev/hda3 on / type ext2 (rw) /dev/hda1 on /win95 type vfat (rw,gid=100,umask=0002) and the gid=100 is the group users and contains only myself, chj. The mount point /win95 is owned by

NIS problems after installation
so, i just installed CentOS on our server and set up NIS using the same configuration as on our other server, but the clients' ypbind services complain that although they can find the correct server, the server does not respond to requests. to debug this, i've: * pinged the server using its ip and it's name * ssh'ed to the server using it's ip and name *

warning for nis users and 5.3 upgrade
i think that previous versions did this as well, but for sure the newest ypserv in 5.3 replaces /var/yp/Makefile with a new copy. needless to say if you've made any changes to that file, you will not be happy. we had a couple hours of phone calls after passwords stopped working. the original file is save as Makefile.rpmsave, so recovery of the file is straightforward. the issue has

Need to restart ypserv to update the nis maps
Hi I use NIS om my network (CentOS4.6). When an update on a map occurs (home directory changed in /etc/passwd for instance), I run make -C /var/yp/ and check the result on a client. On the client I use "ypcat passwd" and find indeed that the update has propagated (the clients run ypbind service). On the client I have configured /etc/nsswitch.conf with : passwd: files nis shadow:

Samba, pam, NIS and password changes
Hi I have a customer who is having a problem with Samba password changes. The samba server (server12) is set up as a PDC for a WIndows domain with XP clients. Samba is Version 3.0.26a-SerNet-RedHat. OS is Centos 3.9. There is also a separate mail server (server56) running FC6 which uses NIS for user validation. NIS server is running on server12. Generally speaking, everything is working and

portmap/NIS mystery
Hello all, I have a server on my private network that is configured as an NIS server and mapped to a "public" IP address on a firewall. All other TCP ports (SSH, iperf, you name it) are visible from the outside - but the portmapper-managed ports (port 111 itself and the YPSERV/YPXFRD ports, etc.) are not visible from the outside - even though they are alive and well on the internal

CentOS 6 and NIS not working
I am having no luck getting NIS to work on a clean install of CentOS 6. It seems to be an issue with ypbind. I have simple /etc/yp.conf which explicitly sets the server domain myDomain server myServer The service seems to start okay #service ypbind start Starting NIS service: [OK] Binding NIS service: ? [OK] But when I try to use any of the yp services, like ypwhich #ypwhich ypwhich:

count pixels of same color in pixmap object?
Dear all, I try to figure out how to use R to count the number of pixels of the same color in some gray-level picture. I managed to read it in either tiff or jpeg format, but the returned pixmap object keeps its information out of (my) reach. Is there an easy way to tabulate the different color/graylevel pixels and their numbers? Or should I use a completely different (free) software?

NIS problems
I've got a RHEL5 server acting as a NIS/NFS server, and connected one C5 machine just fine. I'm trying to connect another, and for the life of me, cannot figure out why NIS won't bind. NFS works fine. ypbind just hangs. I disabled SELinux and the firewall. I just cannot get it to bind. Ideas? Thanks. Scott

OT NIS Question
Hi People, I have been been using a NIS setup that I inherited for some time now and my eventual goal is to replace it with LDAP. But in the mean time I am looking at migrating some servers to new equipment and wondered if it is possible to have a single ypserv install servicing two NISDOMAINS? In this particular situation it would be a situation where for one domain the server would be a

Generating password string in /var/nis/passwd with Perl
Hello, in our network we have AD (Win 2003) for user authentication under Windows and NIS (CentOS 5.2) for same under Linux: # rpm -qf /var/yp filesystem-2.4.0-1.el5.centos ypbind-1.19-8.el5 yp-tools-2.9-0.1 ypserv-2.19-3 I have written a CGI Script to add new users both to AD and NIS and also to create the home dirs at our NetApp-Filer. Unfortunately some steps still have to be made by hand

Samba 3.0.11 hammering NIS
I installed Samba recently on a ClearCase server (Solaris 8) to remove the need for DiskAccess on the Windows clients. I'm having two problems with it, actually. The important one that I'm asking the list about is that Samba is hammering my NIS master with requests for DoMaiN+UseR (and every conceivable combination of cases--note + instead of \, per winbind separator statement in

Inconsistent NIS Client Behavior w/ Centos 7.6
Hi All. I am working on bringing back a number of Centos 7 rigs in our student computer lab back online. No change was made to the existing server machine [running Scientific Linux 6] Right now there is one remaining thing to resolve: an inconsistency with the rigs' NIS Clients. I have configured rcpbind and ypbind following guidance from Server World (

matrix of eigenvalues
I thought that the function eigen(A) will return a matrix with eigenvectors that are independent of each other (thus forming a base and the matrix being invertible). This seems not to be the case in the following example A=matrix(c(1,2,0,1),nrow=2,byrow=T) eigen(A) ->ev solve(ev$vectors) note that I try to get the upper triangular form with eigenvalues on the diagonal and (possibly) 1 just
