vignettes present in 2 folders or won't work
Noted Duncan and TRUE... I cannot do more immediately unfortunately, that is always the issue of asking a last minute panic attack question before teaching a course involving the package... I do have /doc in my .Rbuildignore for reasons I can no longer remember... I will dig and create a MRE/reprex. The students will download heavy packages, but they probably won't notice. *Apologies* In the

You are doing a lot of things that are non-standard, so I doubt if anyone is going to be able to help you without access to a simple reproducible example of a package that does what you do. Try to cut out as much as you can to make it minimal. For example, devtools::document() (indeed, most of your code) is probably irrelevant to your problem with vignettes, but things like your

[R] consider running tools::compactPDF(gs_quality = "ebook")
Dear all, I run R CMD build --compact-vignettes="both" gRbase and/or R CMD build --compact-vignettes="gs+qpdf" gRbase and in the log from r-devel (on winbuilder) I get * checking sizes of PDF files under 'inst/doc' ... vignettes: problems with PDF compaction
[Env: OS: Win Xp; R 2.15.2; IDE: eclipse/StatET] Each time I update my heplots package, I get warnings from R CMD check on R-Forge, * checking sizes of PDF files under ?inst/doc? ... WARNING ?gs+qpdf? made some significant size reductions: compacted ?HE-examples.pdf? from 739Kb to 366Kb and upon submission to CRAN, a message from maintainers: On CRAN now: but again there were warnings

Failure to get compactPDF to compact a pdf file
I am failing to get compactPDF to make any change to a pdf file that, a/c to the message from the CRAN upload site, can be very substantially compacted. Any ideas what may be wrong? I have also tried recreating the pdf file. I also tried R CMD build --resave-data --compact-vignettes DAAG The data files compact alright (but I get the 'significantly better compression' warning message

"if" function in pure R?
Hi all, Could anyone refer to me to a good source to learn how to program a simple control-flow construct* in R, or provide me with a simple example? Control-flow constructs are programmed as primitives, but I would like to be able to do that (if possible) in pure R. The general context is that those functions are a mystery to me. The motivating example is that I would like to create a function

Changing style for the Sweave vignettes
As a user, I am always annoyed beyond measure that Sweave vignettes precede the code by a command line prompt. It makes running examples by simple copying of the commands from the vignette to the console a pain. I know the idea is that it is clear what is the command, and what is the output, but I'd rather precede the output with some kind of marking. Is there any other solution possible /

vignettes present in 2 folders or won't work
I take Duncan's point but would second the motion to have WRE clarify how static vignettes are supposed to work; it's a topic I am repeatedly confused about despite being an experienced package maintainer. If knowledgeable outsiders compiled a documentation patch would it be likely to be considered ...?? On 11/1/20 2:29 PM, Duncan Murdoch wrote: > On 01/11/2020 1:02 p.m., Alexandre

mget call can trigger C stack usage error
Hi all, not sure if you will call this a bug or something else but the following silly call trigger a low level error: foo <- list(x=1) class(foo) <- "new" print.new <- function(x, ...) print(mget(names(formals()))) foo > Error: C stack usage 7969412 is too close to the limit -- Alexandre Courtiol http://sites.google.com/site/alexandrecourtiol/home *"Science is

HTML vignette browser
Hi, this is tangentially related to the recent discussion on vignettes. vignette() currently produces a listing of available vignettes, but these are not clickable. Since R has a browseURL() function, it seems natural to have a version that produces HTML with clickable links. Here's an attempt at that: source("http://dsarkar.fhcrc.org/R/vignette-browser.R") browseVignettes()

"if" function in pure R?
Thanks a lot Jiefei, I had thought of defining a binary operator (inspired by pipes) or simply using an additional condition in the if() calls [e.g. if(foo & fn(bar)) doSomeThing; with fn(bar) returning a logical], but both are workaround that I do not find as elegant as a proper control-flow construct. Thus two questions remain: - is it possible to create a control-flow construct in pure R?

UTF8 markdown vignette
Dear all, I'm trying to use a Markdown vignette with UTF-8 encoding. It compiles well when knitting the vignette in RStudio, but it fails to recognize the UTF-8 settings when building the source package. Can someone point out what I'm doing wrong? I tried to put the relevant information below. Best regards, Thierry Details: Using 64-bit R 3.1.2 with encoding = "native.enc"

Problem in vignette packaging of Sweave in utils package
In ?Sweave, it refers to Sweave User Manual. In the doc folder of utils package, I see "Sweave.pdf". However, I can't find it from within R > vignette("Sweave User Manual") Warning message: vignette ?Sweave User Manual? not found > browseVignettes("utils") No vignettes found by browseVignettes("utils") > library(help=utils) does not

Problem building rmarkdown vignettes with child
Dear Community, I have an Rmarkdown vignette with optional child documents. Since all markdown files in the vingette folder are build when executing R CMD build I did place the child documents in /inst/ParametrizedReportChid/ so they are excluded from the build. I do reference them from the markdown file in the vignette folder by: ```{r referencingChildDocument} child_docs <-

Include pre-existing PDF files as vignettes in an R package?
Greetings. The group that I work with has just started using the approach outlined in Karl Broman's handy primer: http://kbroman.org/pkg_primer/pages/vignettes.html to create vignettes for a couple of R packages. This works fine as long as we have a current Rmd version of the vignette. But we have some old PDF documents that we'd like to include as vignettes as well. I'd like
