Compatibility issues caused by new simplify argument in apply function
Dear R Developers,
the new simplify argument in apply causes that my package (hsdar) does not
pass the
checks in R-devel.
The workaround, Kurt Hornik send me, is working for the R-code:
if("simplify" %in% names(formals(base::apply)))
do something
else
do something else
Unfortunately, I cannot conditionalize the man pages of the functions. I get
the message

Compatibility issues caused by new simplify argument in apply function
Interesting problem. I'm very rusty on S4 but would one solution be
to, already now, add 'simplify = TRUE' to the S4 method and document
it;
setMethod("apply", signature(X = "Speclib"),
function(X,
FUN,
bySI = NULL,
...,
simplify = TRUE) {

Capturing Function Arguments

This is hard if not impossible to implement for the general case
because the default arguments are evaluated in the environment of the
function as it

a fast table() for the 1D case
Hi,
table1D() below can be up to 60x faster than base::table() for the 1D
case. Here are the detailed speedups compared to base::table().
o With a logical vector of length 5M: 11x faster
(or more if 'useNA="always"')
o With factor/integer/numeric/character of length 1M and 9 levels
(or 9 distinct values for non-factors):

deparse(substitute(x)) on an object with S3 class
Dear list,
can someone explain to me why deparse(substitute(x)) does not seem to work
when x is of a user-defined S3 class?
In my actual problem, my print method is part of a package, and the method
is registered in the NAMESPACE, if that should make a difference.
> print.testclass <- function(x,...){
xname <- deparse(substitute(x))

Improvement in hist command documentation
Hi all,
In the histogram created with the `hist` command, the label of the y axis reads "Frequency ?.
Finding that the ylab key is used to change (localize) that word may seem difficult for people
who are beginners either in R or in english.
I suggest very minor modifications of the file hist.Rd at https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/src/library/graphics/man/hist.Rd.

another histogram question
Hi there,
I hope this question is not as stupid as the one before ...
I tried to shorten my histogram (because the distribution is quite skewed and I
simply don't want to see the long tail but still use the histogram plot). How
can I do something like this? (The example does not work but I don't know why...)
data <- rnorm(100) # as example, of course this is not skewed...

problems hist() and density
Hello,
I have a problem with the hist() function and showing densities. The
densities sum to 50 and not to 1! I use R version 2.9.1 (2009-06-26) and
I load the seqinR library.
My data is the following vector:

[PATCH] RFC: OCaml tools: add and use a Getopt module
Add a new Getopt module to mllib, to parse command line arguments with
handlers close to the ones used with Arg, but using getopt(3) (actually
getopt_long_only) to do the real parsing. This allow us to provide
options for OCaml tools with a syntax similar to the C tools, and use
the additional features getopt offers and Arg does not.
Do a single-step conversion of Common_utils and all the OCaml

GAMLSS Question
Dear All:
I have succeeded in fitting a GAMLSS.dist model to growth data I am working
with it.
My aim is to create a matrix of predicted percentiles and the corresponding
the fitted model's sigma mu nu by agebins.
Q:
How do it generate these parameters as in L M S per Cole and Green 1992?
Here are my working codes.
Name of fitted model is gamlssfit

[PATCH] Fix for client certificate validation does not work
Hi all,
As I reported earlier (with a typo in the work [BUG]) client
certification validation *does not* work even if you do everything
exactly according to all documentation and attempts at helpful advice.
I have seen this issue with both startssl.com and self-signed
certificates, and based on what I've seen from searching the web, this
is a problem that has gotten little attention because

Compatibility issues caused by new simplify argument in apply function
You didn't explained what the error is. This is what it looks like to
me, but I'm probably wrong in some details:
1. R-devel added an argument to the apply() function, so the header has
changed from
function (X, MARGIN, FUN, ...)
to
function(X, MARGIN, FUN, ..., simplify = TRUE)
2. Your package converted the function apply() to an S4 generic.
3. Now the signatures of your

segment fault with 2.6.6 or CVS
Hi,
I've rebuilt rsync (which was running just fine for quite some time)
and it works if used via ssh or if the daemon is started via ssh.
But it crashed in daemon mode (started standalone or by xinetd)
Here is the gdb log
