Today, a package that has an HTML vignette (but no PDF vignette) failed R CMD check --as-cran on a system without qpdf. I think the warning originates here [1], due to a premature check for the existence of qpdf [2]. Setting R_QPDF=true (as in /bin/true) helped, but perhaps it's possible to check qpdf existence only when it matters. I have attached a patch (untested) that could serve as a

Current R release (3.5.2) and devel return a 0 exit status on error, while prior versions returned a non-zero exit status. On Linux and MacOs, the following line returns TRUE for R-3.5.2 and R-devel, and FALSE for R-3.5.1 and R-3.5.0: system2("Rscript", c("-e", shQuote("stop('foo')"))) == 0 I didn't find this in the NEWS, so I believe this is a bug.

Hi Avraham, A quick question - I realized I did not have *Perl* installed. So I installed *ActiveState Perl* right now. Also I see I need *texinfo* and *texi2any*. I was able to installed *texinfo* from here: http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/texinfo.htm. But not sure where to get *texi2any*. Can you guide me in this step? Hi All, I am trying to compile R from source on a 64 bit Windows. I have downloaded and installed all the third party software as per the R - documentation.
