Better cleanup of example session during check
I have a couple of packages (?fiery? and ?reqres') that uses a mock of a rook request for their examples. The mock is an R6 object containing a rawConnection, along with a finalizer that closes this connection when the object is removed. So far so good. I?ve recently been getting CRAN errors due to the rawConnection not being closed in examples

improve 'package not installed' load errors?
Hi R-devel,
One of the more common issues that new R users see, and become stumped
by, is error messages during package load of the form:

Error in loadNamespace(j <- i[[1L]], c(lib.loc, .libPaths()),
versionCheck = vI[[j]]) :
there is no package called 'Rcpp'
Error: package or namespace load failed for 'ggplot2'

Error in loadNamespace
Hello R Community,
I inadvertently updated packages via R Studio when a package was open. Now
when R Studio is opened the message below appears in the console panel.
Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no package called ?yaml?

Speed-up/Cache loadNamespace()
Dear all,
in our current setting we have our packages stored on a (rather slow)
network drive and need to invoke short R scripts (using RScript) in a
timely manner. Most of the script's runtime is spent with package loading
using library() (or loadNamespace to be precise).
Is there a way to cache the package namespaces as listed in
loadedNamespaces() and load them into memory before the

[LLVM][RFC] Representing the target device information in the LLVM IR
For the firstprivate clause, the compiler generates code to pass it by value or by reference to the outlined function. The reason the first private scalars is generally passed by value is for the performance reason.
For this particular case, the compiler cannot generate code to pass the double @gg by value under i386-pc-linux-gnu since the value is 64 bit while the architecture is 32bit.

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Hi
I'm still exploring the R programming universe, so if this is being asked in
the wrong place, or in the wrong way (e.g. too verbose or lacking in crucial
detail or in the wrong format) please let me know
I am trying to understand when the version constraints for packages which
appear in the Imports field of a DESCRIPTION file are checked.
Along the way I've hit a snag

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Many thanks Duncan for the quick response.
A bug is a relief in a way. I've been digging my way deeper into this (and
learning more as I go) for several days now - but it is a diversion from (a
diversion from) my main goal :-(
Is there somewhere specific I should report or log the bug or will that
happen from this mailing-list automatically? (I have seen the Bug Tracking
link on the

How to refer to my package from another package DESCRIPTION
Hello, I am developing some packages. Package1 requires Package2, both of which I developed:
Right now Package2 is installed properly here:
/myHome/libraries/Package2
Package1 needs Package2. Package1 refers to Package2 both in the Roxygen @import field for one of the functions, and also in the Imports section in the DESCRIPTION
However, when I do ?R CMD check Package1? I get:

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Hi Duncan,
Many thanks (yet again).
With the hint given by your earlier email (viz that currently loadNamespace
expects a 3rd component called name in the list that is used for the
versionCheck argument) I had another look at what was going on with my toy
examples yesterday evening. I'm still working on my issue, but thus far I
have:
1) Confirmed that internal calls to loadNamespace

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Hi Duncan
The difference is that in your call to loadNamespace, the versionCheck list
has 3 components (name, op and version), whereas the documentation only
mentions 2 (op and version).
loadNamespace 'works' for me provided I add a third component to the list
(even a nonsense one).
What I haven't yet had the fortitude to do is track down through the code to
see what the arguments

Speed-up/Cache loadNamespace()
Thanks for the quick responses. As you both suggested storing the packages
to local drive is feasible but comes with a size restriction I wanted to
avoid. I'll keep this in mind as plan B.
@Hugh: 2. would impose even greater slowdowns and 4. is just not feasible.
However, 3. sounds interesting - how would this work in a Linux environment?
Thank you,
Mario

Error: package or namespace load failed for ?ggplot2? in loadNamespace(i, c(lib.loc, .libPaths()), versionCheck = vI[[i]]):

Tried different version of R and ggplot2 but still doesnt work.
Any help to resolve is appreciated. Appreciate any pointers.

identify object that causes "Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no package called ‘R.utils’"
Dear all,
I've bumped into the: "Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no
package called ?R.utils?" error. I've already read a bit on this (
http://www.cybaea.net/Blogs/Data/A-warning-on-the-R-save-format.html )
but I have a follow-up question.
Given a workspace that automatically loads a package that I don't
really need/want (e.g. ?R.utils?), how do I identify which

Bug in loadNamespace?
I am seeing very strange behaviour in R 3.2.0 patched (r68272) and a new
build of R-devel. The sessioninfo() from the former is below.
Here's what I see: If I set the locale, and trigger a namespace load, a
version comparison gives NA, and I get an error. For example, in a new
session started with R --vanilla from the terminal:

[LLVM][RFC] Representing the target device information in the LLVM IR
Hi Hal,
We are not trying to address issues where the object mapped are of different sizes between host and target with different ABI. The issue is when the objects are of same size like double which is 8bytes on both 32bit and 64bit platform. If a double is used in a first_private on a target clause, the 64 bit side will pass it as value whereas on the 32bit side since the value does not
