IPSec tunnels and routing: strange behaviour
Hello, My name is Fermín Galán and I''m currently working with IPSec tunnels. Recently, I was setting a IPSec tunnelling sample scenario (maybe the simplest one :), where I observed some strange behaviour that I like to describe in the list, just in the case somebody knows what can be the cause, please. The scenario involves four hosts configured in the following way:

shorewall & ipsec rules with "FORWARD:DROP" packets
I have been working really hard configuring and researching very extensively, trying to figure why we are getting "Shorewall:FORWARD:DROP" packets. IPSEC works just fine without the iptable rules created by our shorewall configs but when starting shorewall and creating the iptables I noticed the packets are dropped. I know it is a config situation but I am totally racking my brain as

MULTIPLE IPSEC TUNNELS
I am have a shorewall firewall and freeswan ipsec running on a redhat 8.0 Linux gateway machine. I have one working tunnel defined, all works well. I am not clear how to define mutiple concurrent tunnels. I can not add further interface entries as all the tunnels come in on ipsec0, do I still have mutiple zone definitions? some of the tunnels will be dynamic roadwarriors and as such would need a

IPSEC VPN tunnel with dynamic DNS
Hi all Hi everyone Shorewall 3.2.6 and OpenSWAN 2.4.4-18.2 are on SLES10 machine with public fixed IP address on Internet interface. I am trying to establish IPSEC VPN tunnel to network behind D-Link DI-804HV VPN router who is on dynamic IP address. For this I am using dyndns.org alias on DI804 side. Shorewall is stopping all packets comming from DI804 whey trying to establish tunnel. Log on

Xserver over IPSEC in 2.1.11
Hello, After I''ve switched from 2.1.6 to 2.1.11 I could not run Xserver (TCP 6000) over ipsec anymore, so I''ve reinstalled 2.1.6. Is it a bug or configuration issue? The error is: Shorewall:net2all:DROP: IN=eth0 OUT=eth1 MAC=00:50:da:2d:c1:6c:00:0c:31:f6:c4:8d:08:00 SRC=192.168.123.150 DST=192.168.1.2 LEN=48 TOS=00 PREC=0x00 TTL=62 ID=36507 CE PROTO=TCP SPT=35069 DPT=6000

Helo to all, I am attempting to establish an IPSEC tunnel to a remote freeswan G/W with my laptop. My laptop sits in behind shorewall at home. From the documentation, this is what I Modified in Shorewall: /etc/shorewall/tunnels: ipsec loc 24.65.x.x /etc/shorewall/policy vpn loc ACCEPT loc vpn ACCEPT My question is, have I left anything out?

ipsec tunnel to netgear fvs318
Hi, I''m trying to set-up an ipsec tunnel between a Redhat9 box and a Netgear FVS318. When trying to initialise the connection - ifup ipsec0 - I get the error: RTNETLINK answers: Network is unreachable This would lead me to believe shorewall is blocking ipsec. My config is below. The output of ''shorewall status'' is attached. Any help in pointing out if I''ve

Multi-Hop VPN Issue looking for Solutions
I''ve just discovered that I do not have access to the remote gateways for a set of IPsec tunnels to remote networks. This prevents me from changing the routing table on those gateways. I need "roadwarrior" systems connecting to me local network using OpenVPN (tun) to be able to access those systems. Since the remote gateways don''t know about 10.100.1.0/24, where my

Linux Kernel 2.6, Ipsec, ADSL (dynamic addresses)
Hi, I successfully connected quite a few servers with their associated networks using Suse 9.1/9.2 (Kernel 2.6.x) and IPSEC tunnels. But now I have to add another server that has a ADSL connection to the internet, that means it has a dynamic IP address which is likely to change every few hours, since the provider disconnects from time to time. I found a way to restart the IPSEC connection when

IPSEC vs OpenVPN
While I have concentrated on support for 2.6 native IPSEC in release 2.2.0, I am still of the opinion that unless you absolutely need IPSEC compatibility that OpenVPN is a much easier (and in the case of roadwarriors, a much better) solution. Having already generated all of the required X.509 certificates, it took me less than 1/2 hr to replace my IPSEC testbed with an OpenVPN one using the new

interop with strongswan / ipsec
I see support in shorewall for the KAME-tools, how about strongswan ? I have setup shorewall 3.4.4 and strongswan 4.1.3, making this my vpn-gateway for the subnet behind it. # Shorewall version 3.4 - Zones File #ZONE TYPE OPTIONS IN OUT # OPTIONS OPTIONS fw firewall fil ipsec mode=tunnel mss=1400 net ipv4

IPSEC, multiple subnets and multiple road warriors, oh my! :)
Hi all, I''ve been using Shorewall 1.42 for a month on two firewalls at work and my own personal colocated server and love it. While pretty familiar with iptables, I don''t like dealing with it on a daily basis, and Shorewall certainly makes life easier. I''ve deployed Shorewall on both our Toronto and Ottawa office firewalls, and have configured a FreeS/WAN IPSEC

IPSEC VPN clients on local network
I have problems connecting IPSEC VPN clients on the masqueraded network to outside VPN servers. It looks like this: ipsec-user | 192.168.1.10 (DHCP assigned) | | 192.168.1.1 fw-1 (shorewall, Linux 2.6) | 20.20.20.20 (internet) | 30.30.30.30 fw-2 (IPSEC VPN endpoint) | 192.168.100.1 | | 192.168.100.2 server ipsec-user (a road warrior) is supposed to create an IPSEC tunnel to his home
