AMD 64 - I20/ I20_blocks
I'm trying to install either 32-bit or 64 bit centos 4.3 and I keep
getting an error:
"No valid devices were found on which to install filesystems".
In checking BIOS and RAID, everything seems fine, but I just found some
research about I20.
An alternative would be the i2o_blocks module.
How can I install CentOS 4.3 x86_64 using i2o_blocks? How do I instruct
the boot prompt to

If I execute these via command line, will they persist after a reboot?
Or, should I be putting these into a file like /etc/sysctl.conf?

OT: Measure 2U Server Amp Usage
Hi,
Running a bunch of CentOS servers on 2U supermicro equipment, usually with
8 drives on Adaptec SmartRAID V or LSI Megaraid.
In designing a rack in a data center, the question arises as to how to
measure the amperage the server uses, prior to investing in power drops
that actually do that for you, even remotely, for about $260.00-300USD per
unit. This number is the important one these days

Kickstart: Give IP From ks= Cmdline A Myth?
Hey, someone just told me yesterday that I can give my machine an
initial IP address, gateway, dns server, and netmask via command line
like this:
linux ks=http://www.mydomain.com/kick.ks ip=192.168.1.5
netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.1.1 dns=192.168.1.10
Is this true? Is the syntax wrong or right?
If so, and I call my kick.ks file and it has
install
cdrom
it'll pull the files

AW: AW: Problems with installation
I will install CentOS 4.3 and downloaded the driver disk from Dell for
RedHat Enterprise Linux 4:
Description: Dell PowerEdge RAID Controller 5 Device Driver for Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 4.0, X86 & X86_64
I saw a few minutes ago that the driver disk is extracted within
/tmp/ramfs/DD-01. Therfore I know that the network is working correct. I
will try to extract the module and insmod/modprobe

I have never used the rsync command. The above command was used by a former sysadmin to "synchronize" two servers. However when I ran the command

AW: Problems with installation
ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which
is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because
no one is integrated. So when I try to include the driver disk the installer
is not able to find it.

Problems with NT logons, Samba as PDC
Hi!
We're using Samba as PDC, and recently had a strange crash on the
system (none of the NT-machines authenticated anymore). I re-created
the user database and passwords on the server (TurboLinux 2.2.14-5,
with Samba 2.0.6 & 2.1alpha for auth.) and also re-newed the profiles
making 'em local on the NT-workstations.
Sometimes when the NT-PC gets rebooted, I can't authenticate it

Tricky VPN Configurations
Hello:
The documentation does not have the following use cases very well
defined or described.
I have created a PDF file that Tinc-VPN can use to public
and I would be happy to make more PDF files for usage with the examples
on the web site.
There are 2 pages in the PDF file attached, the first page is a
production setup and the page is a test setup wholly contained within a
single server.

PGP On Centos
Hey I need to run some pgp commands, -what's the name of the package
supported by Centos that will allow me to work with pgp?
I need to run pgp --fingerprint key.name
or it's equivalent.
Pro question. Google searches didn't show much, tried to search for
pgp, gnupg, openpgp, pgp on centos, openpgp on centos, centos/pgp. No
worthy results came back.
Any advice?

Problem with creating a new GPO
Hello.
I have a Problem with creating a GPO on Samba. Each time I try to create
a new one, it shows "The security id may not be assigned as the owner of
this object". I've already checked the sysvol-folder and it seems to
have the correct permissions. I also checked the Account-Permissions
(I'm the build-in Administrator, when trying this) and I also checked

Centos-specific Denyhosts Howto Anyone?
Hi, after reading the docs (no man page) and seeing a few example
howtos, I see none for Centos specifically.
I hereby offer to write this and even host it, and any other wiki-able
howto you want, if you can school me on the first few steps relevant to
how to link up the current rpmforge rpm for RHEL4-64. See, right now,
the one for centos loads into the /usr/share/doc, which is an odd place

cobbler or puppet in Centos5
while i'm on a Centos5 kick, I was just curious if I simply needed to
add a repo or if building these was a matter of waiting in terms of
Centos5. Am trying hard to stay away from Fedora if possible...

cat cron jobs into crontab
Hi,
What's the best/safest way to "cat" the following job into crontab?
*/3 * * * * /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_megaraid_passive.sh >
/dev/null 2>&1
I am used to doing this manually via crontab -e, but now I simply have
too many centos servers to build in a given week (get to toss another
120K at some more 2U chenbro/tyan/amd64's -w000ooo).

Installing X on a Minimal Build
hey, any way I can install X onto the 'minimal build' via yum?
I'd just reinstall, but am working with a 2TB system and it would take
hours to re-do. Just curious...

I have rpmforge installed, so at least i'm pointed at the dag repos.

building cobbler on centos
Is it difficult to build cobbler on Centos or should I just go with
Fedora on this one?
Basically, if you have experience succeeeding at this, can you drop me a
link to a Howto or describe the issues?
I am only writing this because I tried, and ran into quite a few
dependency issues with upstream/downstream packages, and would rather
concentrate on just getting a nice working Cobbler (and

Samba4 Internal DNS CNAME entries
I am currently in the progress of testing the replacement of a Windows
2003 DC with a Samba4-based one.
In the DNS of old Windows DC we had CNAME entries to alias
www.domain.com to serverX.domain.com and ftp.domain.com to
serverY.domain.com. This is working and can be tested successfully
with dig
The CNAME entries were correctly replicated across to the internal DNS
server on the new Samba4 DC

Vsftpd & Iscsi - fast enough
To extend space on our 64-bit centos FTP servers, we are considering
setting them up to work with an existing PromiseRAID system via iscsi.
-just curious if anyone here knows if iScsi is fast enough to serve up
all the images?
-might it be something where we get dedicated cards and put the iScsi
traffic on its own Vlan?
Just curious if this would hold up under alot of traffic, like weather

Centos 4.3: VPN recommend/ howto anyone?
Hi,
I'm just curious about setting up a new VPN here in the office part of our
enterprise, as well as a second in our 75+ node data center co-location
facility.
Needing to stomp out the ****dows L2TP node here, just too many
side-issues with config.
I'd like it to run the same OS as all of our servers, e.g. Centos 4.3.
Any recommedations on which software/server/client
