This can happen. I (with my Debian hat on) had to make 17.11-3 because the
ess package did not behave with Debian untable and Emacs 26.2. It does now.
Changes can have side effects. Turn out that in this case 16.04 is
affected. Your

elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
The latest ess and elpa-ess 18.10-1bionic0 packages for ubuntu leave
ess unable to find initialization files when it is invoked from R via
M-x R. I've found a workaround by creating a soft link:
cd /usr/share
sudo ln -s /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elpa-src/ess-18.10 ess
but this may be a widespread problem. It appeared on each of the three
computers on which I updated the packages, and

"untable" function
Dear R-users!
I am using R1.2.0 under Windows NT4.0, and have data of the following form:

1 A 1 4
2 B 2 5

I would like to convert this to a data.frame y of the following form:

producing a master table from list of tables
Hello,
I'm trying to construct an overall summary table from a list of
tables.
my.list <- list(x=c('a','b','a','b','c'), y=c
('a','d','c','a','b','d'),z=c('d','d','c'))
my.table.list <- lapply(my.list, table)
normally this might be really easy:

elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
Chris,
For what it is worth, I made two more tests:
- on my system 'M-x R' as well as the suggested-in-the-ESS-documentation
'M-x ess-version' both work whether or not I have my ~/.emacs -- so
somehow system path must work
- I have the .el files in the default directory:
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elpa-src/ess-18.10
- They are also symlinked each into

kore dump
I am running Asterisk 1.4.5 and addons 1.4.1 in a CentOS 5 Server.
My PBX has experienced several core dumps the last couple of days and I am not sure if this is what's causing it, but it always seems to happen when a particular extension on a grandstream phone uses ChanSpy SIP group.
I have not been able to locate where the core dump file is being saved. I can't find it in my

elpa-ess fails to initialize after update to 18.10 on ubuntu bionic
Updates to Linux Mint included an update to ESS. After the update, M-x R
produces:
load ESSR: + + + Error in file(filename, "r", encoding = encoding) :
? cannot open the connection
In addition: Warning message:
In file(filename, "r", encoding = encoding) :
? cannot open file ?/usr/share/ess/etc/ESSR/R/.load.R?: No such file or
directory
Any guesses?
Thanks,

MRutter PPA versioning issue, again
Michael,
ESS broke again on my laptop after I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10. The elpa-ess
package seems to be provided multiple times, sadly the one with xenial
(16.04) in its name wins ... and breaks the setup. I one for cosmic, I had
one from bionic (18.04), but because the names 'wrapped' the 'x' wins over
'b' and 'c'. We had talked about that in the past, it

info files
Hi,
I'm a little confused as to how Debian deals with texinfo files. The R
docs are a good example of my problems, so maybe you folks can explain
how this works.
What I've noticed is that the texinfo files for R get appended/indexed
in /usr/share/info/dir as well as /usr/local/info. This results in
duplicated entries when I browse the info tree from Emacs. The only
solutions I can come

interruption when pasting code into R under linux
hello,
has anyone come across the following rather mysterious problem:
when pasting large bits of code (100 and more lines) into the R console with
the central mouse button (under linux), only part of the code is pasted, and
the text interrupts somewhere arbitrarily. It does not happen when smaller
bits are pasted subsequently.
I use linux suse 9.3 with the latest version of R

SSL problems on dovecot 2.1.7
When I upgraded my debian-based imap server from squeeze to wheezy
yesterday, SSL stopped working.
I am using a http://cacert.org signed server sertificate, and I am
reusing the certificates that were used on the 1.x dovecot of debian
squeeze.
My three MUAs that worked against the previous 1.x dovecot with the same
certificate, now fails in various ways.
Any hints and guesses as to how to debug

Bionic beaver repository issues
Hello,
I appear to have a similar issue as?Willem Ligtenberg (Disco Dingo repository issues,?Thu May 2 19:01:04 CEST 2019), except on a completely fresh installation of Ubuntu?18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver). After updating and upgrading packages and adding the repo "deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic-cran35/" and associated key, attempting to install r-base fails due to

Listing elements of a 4D array
Dear list,
I'm having trouble to see how my elements on a 4 dimensional array are
listed.
For example, I generated the following array:
junk.melt=melt(occ.data,id.var=c("Especie", "Site", "Rep", "Año"),
measure.var="Pres")
y=cast(junk.melt, Site ~ Rep ~ Especie ~ Año)
Now, I want to be able to look at how my species (Especie) are listed, in
