R Base installation not working
Hi Marius,
If you're really using Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx), the r-base package
does not exist anymore on the repository
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=r-base).
You're version of Ubuntu is obsolete. If you want an Ubuntu LTS, you
should upgrade to 14.04.

R Base installation not working
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and have tried to download R-base with the
following command:
sudo apt-get install r-base
and the following happens:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package r-base is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from

Hi,
I wonder if you have read the notes on R 3.5.0 on stretch on
https://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/
I think this should answer your questions. If not, please let us know.

R won't appear under the applications. Go to the terminal (in the accessories menu) and type R. It will run in command line.
You might also want to install r-base-dev if you want to compile libraries.

Hi Davide
You can tell what version of R is using?
You could install "plyr" package?

Hi,
Does anyone use spgrass6 with GRASS 7 and R?
The documentation for spgrass6 states it is for GRASS6+, and if I recall
correctly I saw Dr. Bivand mention that it works well with GRASS7. (There
were some threads from 2009 where spgrass6 wasn't working with GRASS7 yet,
but I assumed that information was out of date.)
So I figured I was doing something wrong with the library and package

Why? The help says: "Check R packages from package sources, which can
be directories or package 'tar' archives with extension '.tar.gz',
'.tar.bz2' or '.tgz'." I just skimmed through the relevant section

Dear Johannes, Dear Dirk,
Thanks a lot for helping. Here is the missing information.
Here is how I installed R. This is basically how Martin Maechler
showed me to install R under Ubuntu (in several versions so that they
are also recognized by ESS). My goal is to adjust this to make it work
for Debian:
1) sudo emacs /etc/apt/sources.list # then add:

[R-sig-hpc] Error in makeMPIcluster(spec, ...): how to get a minimal example for parallel computing with doSNOW to run?
Shouldn't -n be 4 in the bsub command?
One master+3 slaves. This was required for snowfall, but I think doSNOW
is similar.
Hope it helps
