WARNING you cannot build info or html versions of the R manuals
Are you building from a source tarball or using the Fedora SRPM? I strongly advise you to rebuild the SRPM, because the resulting binary RPM will have all the necessary deps for building and installing. You might need to change the spec up a bit, since I assume building on Fedora means a modern system, and f17.... isn't modern. On Jan 16, 2016 4:48 PM, Rolf Turner <r.turner at

Ah yes, those. Replace the rpm -Uvh with yum update and it should resolve the dependencies for you. If that fails, just pass all of those deps (in "") to yum install. Sorry about that! Thanks for both the support & sage advice, Martin! And, aye, tis straightforward to convert the perl one-liner to a shell/sed idiom. Problem making the manuals (make dvi and make pdf)
Dear all, I am trying to compile and install R from sources on Ubuntu GNU/Linux 64 bit. It usually worked flawlessly for me for more than 4 years (32bit and 64bit on Mandrake/Mandriva, Suse, Debian, Ubuntu). However, I am experiencing some problems now -- not during compiling and installing R itself but with the manuals. Maybe someone can help me with it? I tried to find some information in the

Building manuals are failing now that MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe
According to the MikTex bug reports [1], MikTex 2.9 has removed texi2dvi.exe last week (on 2015-09-29) as "it was not compatible (anymore) with the original shell script texi2dvi (GNU Texinfo)." I found this out the hard way as I just (unknowingly) updated MikTex this evening, and then, while building R-devel_2015-10-08 on Windows7 64bit using the Rtools 3.3 toolchain (4.9.3 branch), had

[R] Building R-3.2.0 from source.
I am cross-posting this to r-sig-fedora (I hope that's not an egregious sin) in the hope that doing so might provide some source of insight. I tried sudo yum install zlib and was told > Package zlib-1.2.5-7.fc17.x86_64 already installed and latest version Likewise for "zlib-devel". I also tried sudo yum install bzlib and was told > No package bzlib

[R] Building R-3.2.0 from source.
1. R 3.2.0 is packaged for Fedora now; it's in Rawhide and Fedora 22. I'm running Fedora 22 (late beta) and haven't had any problems with R. RStudio Desktop Preview (0.99.435) from the RStudio Fedora RPM is also running fine. You might save yourself some hassles by upgrading to Fedora 22. 2. I have a bash script to build R from source that works on Fedora 22. It probably also works on
