Unless I'm doing something very wrong, which is probably the case, the
messages files have no strings containing `icecast'.

Icecast won't start on system boot
Ya know, I think I'm going to uninstall whatever Icecast we have, then
re-install it--after doing a backup first, of course! :-) This is just
getting too weird.

Sounds sensible. :-)
No offense, but I'd generally look at the system administration
practices of wherever you are. You've had pretty much the same problem

Did the error.log show any signs of it shutting down or did it just end
abruptly?

Icecast won't start on system boot
OK, took a crash course in systemctl. Got the service properly
enabled. However, got one odd error when I started it.
Mar 26 18:06:10 {my-FQDN} icecast[839]: ERROR: You should not run
icecast2 as root
Mar 26 18:06:10 {my-FQDN} icecast[839]: Use the changeowner directive

Icecast won't start on system boot
Just to make it simple and clear, all I'm trying to do here is start
the thing automatically when the system boots, which isn't often, but
it does happen. I took a page from my old system and modified the
init.d script, which looked reasonable at the time. Like I've always
said to anybody who wanted to know, I'm the guy with just a little
knowledge, and you know how they say a

try specifying an absolute path to icecast.xml. also check
owner/group/permissions.

Icecast 2 on ubuntu 14 - service will not start using /etc/init.d
whomever posted I can quite follow, either Jeff or Jose, this
/etc/init.d/icecast2 is actually included in the startup ?
Check with ls /etc/rc* | grep icecast2
I am working on ubuntu and we don't have an /etc/rc. we have
/etc/init.d and there is an /etc/init.d/icecast2 file there.
Interesting, I manually started the icecast2 and I shut it down using
the /etc/init.d/icecast2 stop.

Icecast 2 on ubuntu 14 - service will not start using /etc/init.d
I am not sure what I other than start the service manually, stopped it
using the /etc/init.d/icecast2 stop.
Then, I checked to see if it was still 'active and running' and it
wasn't.
I ran /etc/init.d/icecast2 start and it started.
Thanks for the pointers.

you should just be able to increase STACKSIZE in thread/thread.c from
8192 to 65536. The default stack size is too small,

You should never kill process with SIGKILL if not really, really needed.
Using SIGKILL will not give them a chance to clean up. E.g. no flushing

Starting Icecast as a service on CentOS
Hi All,
I've recently upgraded my hosting to a VPS running CentOS.
I'm trying to configure the VPS to launch Icecast as a service so that
Icecast starts if the virtual server reboots, or Icecast stops running.
I've found several scripts out there to place in my init.d folder, but
nothing seems to work for me as of yet.
Here is my Icecast2 setup:
Location=/usr/local/bin
