Yeah, I spent about half an hour trying to find more on that company,
but came up empty handed. Their name isn't really helpful when perusing

Looking for company behind serverhostingcenter.com and directhostingcenter.com for causing problems on dir.xiph.org
Hi everyone,
as most of you probably know we are operating http://dir.xiph.org - an
open streaming directory.
There are always some misconfigured servers that keep trying to list
something broken. Most common are those where the server admin thinks
they can just put their homepage domain into the <hostname> field
(pro-tip: don't do that, ever, use the proper hostname of that machine!

The IP range I checked belonged to some big data center company. I don't
remember if I tried to reach them too, probably did.
I haven't heard back from any of those.
I've probably spent several days worth

hdt-project.org no IP?
Unable to determine IP address from host name "www.hdt-project.org"
Getting this today? Not sure what issue is?
I paid for the renewal back in 08/04/2016 and and in 2015, so the domain
should be current? But the whois seems to show it is expired? Went to the
gandi site, and it doesn't show a renewal option or anything?

Domtools.com hyjacked?
Attempted to install dlint port.
Only distribution site is www.domtools.com
Email to 'content@domtools.com' and pab@domtools.com bounces (can't
relay)
Phone number missing on whois record.
Fetch of tarball fails checksum (it delivers a generic 'web hosted
search engine that just hijacked someone's domain' web page.
Maybe domtools didn't renew? New web company

vorbis.com domain has expired..
Whois query on vorbis.com returns following (especially note the expires
line):
Record last updated on 08-Feb-2002.
Record expires on 08-Feb-2003.
Record created on 08-Feb-2002.
Because of this, vorbis.com isn't resolving for some users, including me.
I hope someone can renewal the domain ASAHP before squatters takes it.
On further note, xiph.org expiration is also close:

good small registrar?
Greetings,
What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience
with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being
opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression.
But I have no clue who else to go with.

TIP for broken ARIN whois
This works for me on Centos 5.6. It may assist newcomers to the Linux
world of Centos.
whois 51.51.51.51
produces a normal and conventional display of data.
However since ARIN, the North American registrar of IP addresses,
"modernised" its WHOIS processing, a query to
whois 64.64.64.64
will produce a one line summary of possible matches, which always
includes ARIN, but omits the

Record() permission problem
Hi All...
I'm trying to use the record() app and it complains that it can't open it's
file because permission was denied. I'm running the released Asterisk on
Debian Linux. The target directory is workd writable. Here is the
relevant part of the dialplan:
exten => 1,1,Playback(leave-message)
exten => 1,2, Record(/var/local/whois-messages/whois-${contactid}:wav|6|120)

It seems the illiminable.com domain has expired
and the link from www.vorbis.com to the directshow
filters is dead as result. Are compiled versions
hosted anywhere else?

whois command in c6
the whois command in c6 references whois.v6nic.net for ip addresses in
the 43.0.0.0/8 range (and maybe others). v6nic is no longer a valid
whois server, any nets delegated to it should instead be delegated to apnic.
i have no upstream connections... this change was made in the generic
sources for jwhois some time ago
I see this fix was introduced in F20 here,

problem with centos.org whois
It looks like someone pooched a domain transfer, and the whois entry
for centos.org is missing its NS records. I've sent an email to the
whois tech contact @redhat, but I'm sending this to the list to hopefully
bring it to someone else's attention, as well.
Hopefully it gets gets out before my mailserver expires its DNS
cache for centos.org.
Expect centos.org to be offline for a bit

OT Mexican domains?
Hola!
In case there are some mexican readers here...
It is little difficult for an english speaker to find information
about mexican domains. Is it possible to register a domain like
"fiesta.mx"? I have seen sites selling ".com.mx" and similar but not
just ".mx".
Thanks,
Peter

maybe lynx package should be a requirement of the whois package...?

Optional WHOIS netname on login banner
I think this is probably my first post to this mailing list, so hello!
Occasionally I log in to my servers from IP addresses without reverse DNS configured, so sometimes I'll see an IP I don't recognise because I can't remember what I did the day before and get a bit spooked until I WHOIS the IP and find the netname reminds me I logged in from that IP.
I set out prepared to script

sedwards@sedwards.com causes me to be knocked off the list
Someone on this list uses the address @sedwards.com
I doubt this is their actual email address as there is no MX record for
sedwards.com and I can't find registration for their domain either.
Part of my mail servers reject these emails because they cannot be
replied to, or are likely to be spam.
Every so often I get a mail from the list management to say that I've
been unsubscribed
