rules - access by mac address
Hi,
At the moment I am controlling my LAN client access to
the Inet by their MAC address. Currently I am putting
their MAC address in the rules file - now the number
of the PC that I want to manage is getting more and
more and it is not practicle to do this way anymore.
My question is, how can I have their MAC address in
other separate file?

clarification: Port Forward
I am missing a tiny detail on understanding a simple port forward:
I want to forward just like the FAQ listed, via
#ACTION SOURCE DEST PROTO DEST PORT
DNAT net loc:192.168.1.3:22 tcp 1022
Which works just fine. Now I also tried this following type of rule,
which I thought would work, but it did not.
#ACTION SOURCE DEST PROTO DEST-PORT

Rules by Mac Address
Hi,
I am using Shorewall in Adamantix. At the moment everything flow fine, my question is that how can I filter the access by computer mac address, I had read the documentation maybe I am ''stupid enough to spot the guide, if so please show me''.
What is the rules line if I want to
1. limit ~01-01-01-01-01-01,~02-02-02-02-02-02,~03-03-03-03-03-03-03 to access 202.202.202.202

Allow Microsoft Activation & Updates
Hi,
I had set rules so that my client can only visit few
sites instead of the whole net.
My question is, how can I allow my client to activate
it''s product key and also to run windows update?
One more thing is, can I use domain name in the rule
config? if yes, can I put just microsoft.com to refer
to aaa.microsoft.com bbb.microsoft.com?
Please advice

Shorewall as a "commercial" firewall
I am considering replacing my old checkpoint and watchguard firewalls witha
single Linux box using iptables and shorewall. I have two ISP''s (with
separate routing tables), two DMZ''s, at least one VPN to a remote office, and
a local trusted network. The configuration will look like:

Ocfs-users Digest, Vol 37, Issue 2
Ivan,
I found the same thing after doing an upgrade a couple of months ago and
mailed this list. Never got a response.
We had to fdisk the shared disks and remount them and restore db from
backup.

I'm trying to put togther a starting list of patches required to get
3.7.1p2 working in our enviroment. I'm pretty sure I need the following
at minimum but would like guidance about a couple of them and direction
on a couple unanswered questions. I've spent most of the morning

setting enviroment variable
I have a ror project which has been productized. There are several web
sites in one ror project
I need to set an "enviroment variable" to run different sites, can I do
that using mongrel? I tried to use mongrel''s -S option and set the
enviroment variable in that file but it seems mongrel runs that file
after it calls enviroment.rb
I also used apache''s

Idea: permit /etc/shorewall/masq to contain zones, as well as interfaces
Dear All,
Firstly, thank you very much - shorewall is great. I''m not a member of
this list, and please forgive me if I am suggesting something stupid, but
the following occurs to me, and I thought it might be useful.
Why no make it possible to specify zones as well as interfaces in the
/etc/shorewall/masq file ?
Eg: instead of:
eth0 eth1
one might write:
net loc (or masq in

Soft Deletes
How would I go about setting up my rails applications to soft delete
items from the database rather than actually deleting it. I would
imagine that I need to over ride the methods from ActiveRecord.
Where would I do this would it be in the model? enviroment.rb? I
would imagine that if i wanted it throughout my entire application it
would need to be in the enviroment.rb.

I'm migrating a 1.000 queues windows print server with AD very critical
enviroment to linux/cups/samba solution. Initially, everything working fine, but
when reached paroximately 400 queues created the server is getting degradated.
The browsing of printers shares is very low. Many times during the day smbd and
winbindd need to be restarted to stop the degradation. I didn't found any

Problem : 5 Public IP Address
Hi,
I am having problem in getting my fw to connect to the
net, I had set allow fw net in the policy.
I suspect maybe shorewall having problem because I
have 5 public IP alias to my fw, which is eth0,
eth0:1-eth0:4. Because before I add more ip to this
interface my fw able to connect to the net.
How can I set one IP to be bind to this fw, or I had
to change the rules from fw to fw:w.x.y.z?
