Can icecast stream a file from disk?
I'll toss in here and augment with Wade's remarks. Absolutely this is not an optimal use of icecast but may actually result in reduced complexity for deployment for people who need to stream both dynamic and static content. For example, if we have a live streaming site but we want to put some sample static content in the profile of the band who will be streamed later - going ahead and

Weird problem with script/server, lighttpd, and FreeBSD
I installed lighttpd from ports on my FreeBSD-5 system last night, wanting to play with that instead of WEBrick for development work. I installed it, and ran script/server, and got this: [minter@carlton discostu]$ script/server => Booting lighttpd (use ''script/server webrick'' to force WEBrick) => Rails application started on http://0.0.0.0:3000 => Call with -d to

Resizing partitions using OCFS?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 We're getting ready to start work with Oracle 9iRAC on Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1. One thing I'm curious about, that I haven't found an answer for in the docs, is how to handle partition resizing with OCFS. We have found on our Oracle 8i/Solaris systems that we have the need on occasion to expand partitions to make room for more

Should Perl talk to Rails via LWP
Hi folks, I need your opinions on a basic design issue. I''ve seen the light of RoR and have replaced my Perl (DBI/CGI) based web server <-> RDBMS communication with RoR, but I still have a whole host of users (other servers/OS''s etc) out there wanting to talk to my RDBMS and they only talk Perl. Also they don''t want to talk Perl/DBI directly (they are not allowed

Dual-homed weirdness
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've got a setup where there's a Samba server, acting as a PDC, with two interfaces - 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.2.10. I've got the following stanza in the smb.conf to have it only listen on the .1 interface: bind interfaces only = true interfaces = 192.168.1.10 127.0.0.1 The setup is working well for most users - they can auth to

"User not authorized to connect from this station"
Hello, I'm running the newest version of Samba on an Irix 6.4 server. One of our NT clients is having a problem. When the user tries to access the server (Start-->Run-->"\\SERVER"), the username/password field comes up. When that user puts in his valid username/password, and error pops up that says "User not authorized to connect from this station." No valid

Can mount shares but not "net use" them
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Ok, I've made progress on my problems from earlier today, but have one final sticking point that's gumming up the works. On a WindowsXP box, I can access shares via \\server\sharename just fine. But if I do "net use L: \\server\sharename", I get "System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found."

Odd "sweep" error on older code
I''ve got a Rails project that has been on the shelf for a few months, and I''m picking it back up. I''ve frozen Rails at 1.1.4 in vendor/, and did the "rails ." and "rake rails:update" to get it up to a current Rails level. The code initially seems to be working fine, but when I go to my login method, I get a 500 error thrown. Looking in the

POP users complaining about multiple copies of mail
Hello, We just switched from UW to Dovecot for our mail server. The transition went smoothly, except we have some users complaining about their email clients re-downloading mail or getting multiple copies of emails. When we go into their accounts, we only see one copy of the email, so I'm assuming there's something odd in the communication between their client and us that's causing

I've had the same issue. Must not be many subscribers or they've moved on to some other list. I switched to the linux Shoutcast for my server (much more reliable) and am looking for a replacement for ices that reliably re-encodes VBR. Let me know if you find anything. BTW...maybe if you posted your config files for ices and icecast i could compare it with mine (or my old one for

Please check link for R-patched.tar.gz
I have been trying to build R-patched from source using the link ftp://ftp.stat.math.ethz.ch/Software/R/R-patched.tar.gz Which the file list says is linked to R-patched_2013-05-01.tar.gz but what I download by both wget and curl (with -R -O --ssl ) is dated 2013-04-23 and builds to an old patch level.... It could be some hidden cache on my side (I've tried finding and removing) but I think

how many streams can icecast handle ?
hi everyone For my diploma work on streaming music, I'm looking into cost of handling a large amount of users. Somehow I couldnt find some experience on the net about how many concurrent streams a single box could handle using icecast (without encoding, just the streaming of pre-encoded mp3-files). Does anybody have some experience that I could include as a reference point ? Thanks !
