icecast sound compressor
hm, to have a look at Pure Data and external called oggcast~ http://www.akustische-kunst.org/puredata/ is recomended,
you can set quality/bitrate/samplerate ... while streaming then, and do whateweryou want to your sound

dovecot 2.x via xinetd
Hello,
I was using dovecot 1.2.x via xinetd with a setup like http://wiki.dovecot.org/InetdInstall
Since I upgraded to Debian Wheezy, shipping dovecot 2.x, it no longer works. At best, I end up with stuff like
Error: net_connect_unix(anvil) failed: No such file or directory
Fatal: Couldn't connect to anvil
Any clues?
Regards,

samba doesn't close the connections
Hello!
I have samba 2.2.1a with Solaris 2.5.
The problem is this: sometimes samba doesn't close the connections from
the clients (W95), the number of connections grows and finally samba
doesn't work.
This error appears a lot of times in the log of the machines that
doesn't close the connections :

intended login protocol for icecast2
well, don't get me wrong, I am not generally opposed to progress, but
speaking as a coder of source clients, providing yet another authentication
mechanism is a bit frustrating....
I guess it wasn't too bad having to deal with Shoutcast/Icecast/Icecast2
specific connection protocols (yes they are ALL different!) but I am NOT
going to support Shoutcast/ICecast/Icecast2 (ICE

FXS or VOIP
Hi
I am setting up a phone system for a small office.
The office will have 5-8 phones and a fax line.
There are 4 hunt lines coming into the office.
We have made no hardware purchase yet.
Being an asterisk newbie, before I suscribed to this list I just
assumed that I would buy voip phones and connect
all the phones to a private ethernet network.
However, I see many people inquiring about FXS

Comment regarding this list
Just a simple off topic but list related comment:
The message headers in postings from this list seem to encourage off list
responses since the list address only appears in the "To" header. The normal
action when responding (at least by the uninitiated) is to simply reply which
in many cases sends the response to the address in the "Reply-to" header if any

Order of messgaes/ missing messages
I am curious as to why I quite often receive responses to questions on the help before receiving the actual question.
For example Mr Graves has responded to Mr Lumley's response to Mr Wegelin yet I ave not received Mr. Lumley's post while I have received the other two.
Cheers,
Jim

DarkIce make problems
Hi everybody
I'm trying to encode the soundcard signal to serve it with IceCast, but
I'm having problems with making darkice-0.11. Anybody could help?
I'm compiling in a Solaris 6 OS with gcc 2.8.1, and I've installed lame
and Vorbis libraries.
This is my config phrase:
./configure --prefix=/aplicacions/icecast-1.3.12/darkice --with-lame

GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE and dual-screens
Hi,
I'm running compiz on a r300, dual-screens setup. The r300 driver has a
GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE = 2048 limit, and it shows: the nautilus backdrop
window doesn't cover both screens.
Is there a mean to let compiz sort of "split" the nautilus window to
stay within the 2048 limit on each screen ?
Thanks,
Xav
