converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
For archiving from source media (CD usually) to flac? I typically use EAC either from Windows or Wine as it allows for the most configuration. Off the top of my head I think Sound Juicer will do it for *nix, though there are probably others that work just as well. Chris Dave wrote: > Hi, > Thanks. Taking the 128 mp3 and re-encoding to flac won't fix any quality issues you may have as they will retain the same 'flaws'. In the end you'll end up with the same quality as you would have seen going from 128 mp3 to q3 ogg. One nice thing about ezstream is that you can specify decoders for multiple formats so if going and ripping all your media again is too daunting a task you

converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
Hi, I'll attach my ezstream.xml file to illustrate how ezstream can be "programmed" to do various on-the-fly re-encodings. The basic idea is to treat each <encdec> section as a pair of cmd-line tools: implying a *ix pipe connects the output of the <decode> cmd to the input of the <encode> cmd. The stdout of the <encode> cmd is fed back to ezstream for

Yeah, ezstream is a source client just like ices0, but the manner in which they go about processing files or playlists may differ. I don't know too much about ices0 but in the configuration for ezstream you can either specify a single file to stream or you can point it to an m3u playlist and it will play though that, I'm not sure this is compatible with how you currently queue media.

streaming to dialup users gives low quality audio
Hi, Currently streaming ogg isn't practical in this situation. That was one of the first things i checked into. WHen i looked i didn't see a streamer that did both ogg and mp3. Thanks. streaming to dialup users gives low quality audio
Hello, I've got two streams, one for broadband, one for dialup. Well, having had occation to use a dialup connection recently i checked the dialup stream. Although it was streaming what the broadband stream was, the audio quality was audibly worse. It didn't buffer, but it didn't sound as clear as the broadband stream. I used lame to encode the tracks to mp3 and used it's

How do I list in YP? icecast2 ices0
Hi Rob The stream format has nothing to do with your audio files. I probably have 70% MP3's and 30% Ogg Vorbis files, and 1 or 2 WAV files for jingles on my hard drive. I only encode new CD's to Ogg Vorbis. But my station is streaming in AAC+ format, and I have also streamed in Ogg Vorbis format simultaneously. There is no way I would bother streaming in MP3 format. It's 15+

How do I list in YP? icecast2 ices0
I can understand wanting to boost the adoption of Xiph codecs, but I think restricting the directory to vorbis streams only will not help this endeavour. I can imagine it will just piss a lot of people, including myself, and give Xiph a bad name. I get very few listeners of my AAC+ stream now since this occured. The restriction is not an insentive to switch to Ogg Vorbis at all. The incentive

Linux source-client that can push AAC to icecast2?
Hi all, I set up ezstream to read a playlist.m3u file containing only MP3 encoded songs (to shuffle continuously) and push this to icecast2. This works, and I can also reencode to a lower bitrate. I would like to know if there is a way to reencode these MP3s into AAC-LC 128kpbs and then push the stream to icecast2. I'm doing this on a VM with only terminal access and no audio hardware, so

static noise while streaming
Hi all, I'm very new to audio streaming, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm using icecast2 server and muse source client on gentoo linux. Some mp3 files that I'm streaming exhibit severe static noise, in fact, the noise is present always but is most noticeable for the records that are currently playing, http://24.57.213.147:8000/aha.m3u (I'll keep this alive for a while) I

ezstream
hi everybody. I am involved in a Internet Radio Station in Bristol UK. We are using a icecast 2 server and are trying to work out what to use to upstream. Currently we are using darkice which seems to work well. However it does not support playlists. I have looked at muse-streamer but it is currently far to unstable. Therefore ices or ezstream seem to be the option. From what I can gather

guideline for plug-in to icecast2 server
hi actually im trying to add feature to ices2 to able to stream mix file format such as ogg and mp3 in the same playlist.m3u without extra decoding and encoding that function like ezstream. the reason i dont want to use ezstream as source client becoz after going thru decoding and encoding, the audio quality drops. Therefore im trying to find out is there any easy way out to add plug-in to

Newbie needs help
To all: I am running FreeBSD v7.03 and using icecast2 which is happily relaying a shoutcast MP3 stream. I want to play (mix)a pre-recorded "Stream ID" file to the existing stream once per hour. I've tried ices0 but no luck. Any help will be much appreciated. Mike

add AAC+ file header to new streams
Hi all. I believe there is an opportunity to have thousands of Shoutcast servers replaced with Icecast. What will do this is if Icecast can send a MPEG-4 AAC+ header as the first data a player receives when connecting to an audio/aacp stream. The reason for this is the AAC+ support added to Adobe Flash player last December. I could hear a loud sigh of relief each around the world when this was

Winamp v5.22 / oddcast / aac+
I'm not sure if this is an icecast issue or oddcast issue or both, but the latest Winamp (v5.22) is not now playing AAC+ streams encoded with Oddcast. Winamp v5.21 and earlier versions work fine. This may be some attempt by Winamp developers to force people to use Shoutcast, or to prevent oddcast from using their enc_aacplus.dll. Right, just took some time to set up the Shoutcast DSP to

title streaming with ices
Please correct me if I'm wrong but the album title isn't exposed by the status-json file. I'd really like to be able to expose this as well. I'm using EZStream but I think the configuration / exposure needs to be configured on the Icecast2 side. Ezstream and AAC+ ?
Hi I'm new to this list, so please forgive me if I ask a dumb question! I know that AACplus is a dirty word here but.... I'm trying to make comparisons between live streams of OGG and AACplus at different bitrates. The only way I've found of streaming AAC+ so far from Linux is by running Winamp under wine and sending this to my Icecast2 server. This sort of works, but is hardly

title streaming with ices
Hi all: Recently Stream Licensing LLC has changed their requirements so that streaming internet stations in the US must title stream the album along with the song title and artist. I use ices for the backup automation when no live programming is taking place. Ices shows the song title and artist on the player with no problem. My question is how I configure ices to show the album as
