ICES with MP3Pro?
Does anyone know if this is possible? Not sure if there is a hack that would work with this. I know the free mp3pro encoder works @ 64kbs... I don't know if anything supports this yet or not. AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
OK, I've organized this. It's not possible to average 32kb/s stereo with Vorbis using VBR. Quality -2 stereo proeduces roughly 32 to 38kb/s which is too high for many modems. I would have to use ABR, but last I tried that, it utilized too much CPU for my 950Mhz PC, and oddcast doesn't appear to support that option anymore. I've tried AACPlus 32kb/s mono and there is very

AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
I'm am currently using autuvb4 at q-2 mono 44100. This produces roughly 28 to 34kb/s. It's ok but I've heard AACPlus at 32kb/s stereo and it's definately better, unfortunately. AACplus
Sorry for the crosspost but it's relevant to Vorbis and Icecast I believe. I'm seeing more and more streaming stations using AACplus, with many listeners being amazed at the sound quality. Most say that a 48kb/s sounds better than a 128kb/s MP3, which would put Ogg Vorbis at around 96kb/s IMO. That means only half the bitrate is required in AACplus compared to Ogg Vorbis for the same

Reencoding mp3pro in mp3pro or mp3 with ices

mp3pro bitrates
Sort of off topic, but I was wondering about how the SBR data factors into an mp3pro bitrate. If you encode a "64kbps" mp3pro stream, I'm guessing that 64kbps would include the SBR data. So, when played in a normal MP3 player, would a 64kbps mp3pro stream actually sound worse than a 64kbps MP3 stream? Tony Arcieri --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg

And thats only a player. What about an (Open Source) encoder? Nah, I'll stick with OGG for the time being. Winamp v5.22 / oddcast / aac+
I believe that Oddsock is using a Content Type of aacp. Using a .aac extension with this Content Type may present a conflict. This might actually be by design. I will do some further testing with Winamp and report here tomorrow. I will also double-check with the developer of Winamp for complete clarification. FYI, Orban Opticodec-PC allows the use of either Content Type of aac or aacp. aac is

AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
I should have provided a link to my low bitrate vorbis stream. It's a mostly easy listening world music format: http://soulfm.stationplaylist.com/listen.m3u Regards, Ross.

Higher quality narrowband streaming options
Hi, Up until now, I've been providing narrowband streams at 24kbps MP3. We've reluctantly been using MP3 instead of say Ogg Vorbis due to wider support. But it's getting to the point where low bitrate MP3 doesn't really cut it anymore. With technologies like AACPlus out there in common usage, people have come to expect better and one can hardly blame them. So I thought

Enable port 80 on Win2k3 server with Websites configured
Greetings Everyone Just playing around with the new version, And I'm having difficulties setting up Icecast to play with a second listening port on 80. If I turn off all of the websites, it works, BUT, if I have one on (3 IP addresses attached to the Nic...websites attached to port 192.168.0.90) it says it cannot create a listening port on port 80.

mp3PRO encoder/decoder demo available
If anyone is interested, mp3PRO demo is available on Coding Technologies web site: http://www.codingtechnologies.de/ Demo is a Win32 encoder/player, and it is limited to 64kbps only. I did a quick test, and it really sounds good at 64kbps (but not as good as 128kbps - we all know that was hype). SBR (Spectral Band Replication) seems to be working pretty well. Of course SBR is only used if you

FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for WMP Supports Icecast2
A FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for Microsoft Windows Media Player that fully supports the Icecast2 Server is available for download here: http://www.orban.com/plugin FYI: This plugin supports .asx for Windows Media Player NOT .pls or .m3u. Also streams can be opened directly by using newly created UIL redirectors, e.g., icyx:// instead of http:// and rtpx:// instead of rtsp://. This is all covered

How do I list in YP? icecast2 ices0
Hi Rob The stream format has nothing to do with your audio files. I probably have 70% MP3's and 30% Ogg Vorbis files, and 1 or 2 WAV files for jingles on my hard drive. I only encode new CD's to Ogg Vorbis. But my station is streaming in AAC+ format, and I have also streamed in Ogg Vorbis format simultaneously. There is no way I would bother streaming in MP3 format. It's 15+

FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for WMP Supports Icecast2
Ok, I read the Read Me. So icyx://boa.mediacast1.com:9292/stream.aac works. I don't understand why the http syntax cannot be made to work. This works fine for Ogg Vorbis streams using the Illumination DirectShow filter. AACPlus Shoutcast v1.90
Just so you know the what's happening with the competition, Nullsoft has released Shoutcast DSP v1.90 supporting AACPlus encoding for free. http://www.shoutcast.com/downloads/shoutcast-dsp-1-9-0-windows.exe The shoutcast website hasn't been updated yet. You need Winamp v5.1 which includes the AAC+ encoder DLL. Regards, Ross.

LAME does not do MP3Pro. And in fact, the stream that is reencoded will also only be a reencode of the MP3-compatible layer of the MP3Pro stream, as Ices does not know how to decode MP3Pro streams

[thomas@arkena.com: [vorbis] mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license]
Thomas, You should post this hear, as it's just as relevant ;) Hey guys, how do you feel now that you all owe Thompson $2k per year? Vorbis look more interesting now :) It's really disgusting how the technology is now worth more than the music. jack. ----- Forwarded message from Thomas Kirk <thomas@arkena.com> ----- Date: Sat, 9 Jun 2001 11:58:23 +0200 From: Thomas Kirk
