what ID tags will show up?
I'm just getting started here and I'm wondering what the best way to
do things are. I have been thinking of setting up icecast on my
server and then remotely broadcasting with Foobar2000 and the Oddsock
plg-in. I'll be playing 128kbps MP3 files. I'm not sure what format
to stream in ... I'm having trouble listening to any Ogg Vorbis
streams at all .... the MP3 streams come

correct way to link stream on a web page?
Thanks. I tried changing Hostname to 69.20.57.94 but the same thing
is happening. I have a free IP Address. Is there a way to bid
Icecast2 to an IP Address?

Binding Icecast to an IP address
I noticed in the Docs there is a <bind-address> option but the
example given says it limits to just one listener. Is it possible to
bind to an IP address but with no listener limit? Or am I just being
a dumbkopf....
Would that help my links work?

RealServer and Icecast
I now this may be a touchy subject, but I'll preface by saying that
I'm trying to get away from Real Networks. Now that video is becoming
a reality with Icecast, I want to make a slow transition from using
RealServer to using Icecast. I have 20GBs of video content in Real
format so I need to keep using the RealServer, but I want to start
running the live audio stream with Icecast. Has

I'm running Icecast 2.2.0 on a Windows 2000 server. I'm using Winamp
with the SAM encoder plugin to stream an Ogg Vorbis stream (-0.55
quality stereo) from a remote machine. I'm having two problems.
1. The latest Winamp works great. Whamb on OSX works also (but no
Title/Artist info shows up). But on other players (Zinf and Audion
[OS9 and OSX]) it works great for one song. At song

I'm trying to run Icecast as a service under windows using SC.exe and
I think that is the cause of the shutting down. There are parameters
for "start" that aren't explained and not really obvious .... I just
used the default (=demand)... anyone familiar with sc.exe?

You don't need to explicitly configure your mount points within
icecast. You only need to do so if you want to set various optional
things.

Can't listen to a stream from icecast-kh
Yes, but I'm also unable to read that stream from VLC on OS X and Windows
Whamb works on OS X, QCD works on windows.
If it is confirmed that VLC is not working with that header, then we may
ask VLC team to handle that header ?
I downloaded the latest Realplayer, but I'm unable to play my stream...
is it really possible?
or perhaps it is only for mp3? in that case why not to send that

Status of Vorbis in Realplayer
Hi:
I'm working with an internet station. The station manager and I firmly
believe in Ogg Vorbis. We already run transcodes of the 56k MP3 stream so
modem listeners have the opportunity to hear stereo. We'd like to change
our primary stream to Vorbis ultimately, but that will involve overcoming
a number of challenges, not the least of which will be getting all the
broadcasters to

Logging rsync results using >> not getting all output
I currently use a patched version of rsync 2.6.3 with support hfs+ file
systems. Running on Mac OS 10.4 (Server). It works great but I cant get the
output to work correctly.
This is the command I use in the script:
rsync -av --hfs-mode=appledouble /Volumes/x/x/
root@192.168.1.1:/Volumes/x/x/x/x/ >> $LOGS
This give me output like this:

Problems with RealPlayer & Icecast
I've been getting reports from people that my Icecast streams are not working
when RealPlayer is used for playback. They all say that the stream plays for
5-10 seconds, then the connection just drops. I tried it using RealPlayer 8 on
Windows2000, and got the same results. Winamp, on the other hand, works
perfectly.
I tried playing other streams on the Icecast yp server, and it seems to play

hxplay versus realplay
Interesting. I downloaded and installed both
HelixPlayer-0.4.0.187-20040615.i586.rpm and
RealPlayer-0.4.0.186-20040615.i586.rpm
on my Mandrake 10.0 system.
With hxplay, the theora sample video, Mixtape.small.ogg, played as well as it
does with mplayer 1.0pre4, which is reasonably well. But when I tried to
watch it with realplay, the program choked and died.
Also, when I tried to watch

Your assumption was correct - I remade the MP3 without the ID3 tags and the
intro plays correctly in RealPlayer!
Thanks,

Fruity Loops
With Winetricks, Fruity Loops seems to be working well. The only thing
that is not working right now is the packs. I can't figure out why the
packs aren't working. If I click on the bass pack, it produces sound;
if I click on one of the choir packs, no sound is produced. Linux reads
the bass pack as pcm encoded. Linux isn't able to read all the packs
that aren't working.

RPMS's -- Standalone or From Sources?
Dear friends:
[Using the Centos 4.4 DVD)
I will spend the next few days reading the documentation for Centos/RedHat.
But meanwhile, I would like, while reading it, to listen to my favorite radio
programs which require RealPlayer. So, my question is simply: should I
download the RealPlayer RPM from www.real.com or should I download it from an
rpm repository source? While I am at, what about
