pidfile disabled
The pidfile is not being created on the server I am running icecast2 on (FreeBSD 4.11). The changelog in the source directory says the pidfile was disabled. How was it disabled, why was it disabled, and is there any reason I shouldn't re-enable it? Joe

wow! and what about h/w players for vorbis files?
wow! i must say vorbis deprecates mp3! lol. although, i had to use the "OSS/3d for XMMS" plugin on my sblive value w/ 4 point sound to get a proper base. On my other box with a diff card, bass is just fine. however, are there any h/w players for vorbis files? the faq only states one manufacturer called iObjects but i see no portable players! Basically, i want to player vorbis files

icecast stats
Regardless of the xsl files. Can't we communicate with the icecast server directly to retrieve the information ?? On Mon, 14 Feb 2005 12:58:56 -0500, Ian A. ices 2.0.1 release
This is to announce version 2.0.1 of ices. It is a small update to 2.0.0 and is compatible to existing configurations. The most user-visible part of this update is in the ALSA input driver, which some people have reported as being a problem in some cases. You can download the tar files from http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/ices/ Summary of changes since 2.0.0 . update ALSA input . add

Metadata and bad player behaviour : cut sound for short time when receiving metadata (kh versions of ices/icecast)
Hello, I was trying to add metadata to my OGG stream (ices 2,0-kh59, icecast 2.0-kh51). It works... but the players are doing a small sound cut at metadata reception : - VLC (maybe 1/3sec cut) - JORBIS (java. maybe 1/10sec, because I can have set higher priority to sound processing and not to comment handling) (player plateform: Mac OS X 1.3.6) With VLC... I can say comments are unusable,

RE: Two questions
I am happy using icecast/ices, but have two questions: 1. If I was using cron to schedule a switching of a playlist, can I do this without restarting icecast so that at a SPECIFIC TIME (let's say at exactly 3:00 pm) a new song can be played without interupting the user listening to the broadcast. 2. Is there a setting when the user first connects to play a *welcome* file (i.e. about the

file only storing with ices 2 ?
Hi ! my question is how to totally switch off the Ices2 logging into the Icecast server ? I wan't to use ices only to save archives (24h/d), without any streaming, but when I try start Ices, see: [2005-01-19 17:27:05] EROR stream/ices_instance_stream Failed initial connect to localhost:8000 (Couldn't connect: Connection refused) and Ices clears buffers etc. and shuts itself down :-(

Players (O.T.)
Sorry for the off topic posting, but I'm not a real music person and know little about what software will do what. Without turning this into a big discussion for pro or con, could someone drop a line or 3 just stating the name(s) of some type music players? I'd probably want something that would play CD's and perhaps mp3's. I don't guess there is a "catch-all" like

icecast stats
I don't mind using the password. Just I am asking if there is some sort of protocol to retrieve the information without playing with the xsl !! I mean, to directly retrieve the wanted information, like ME: Get MetaData Server: Celin Dion - All comes back to me. Current hardware requirements for decoding? (skipping problem)
The vorbis FAQ mentions that decoding vorbis should use roughly the same resources as decoding MP3's, but that the current source is not optimized. So what is the current requirement? I have a Pentium 133 with 64 megs and I cannot get .ogg files to play without skipping. I've tried encoding .wav files and downloading .ogg files from www.vorbis.com and playing them on Winamp with

Missing headers in Icecast2
Hi everybody, Assorgia and me, we have worked on the Flash client for Icecast2. We got successful results with: -Windows (Netscape, Mozilla, CompuServe, or Opera) -Macintosh and Linux(Netscape, Internet Explorer for Macintosh, Safari, AOL, Opera, or CompuServe) For Windows (Internet Explorer or AOL) some headers sent by Icecast2 are missing. These headers are sent by Icecast1 but NOT Icecast2
