Server question - if you had ...
If you had $3,000 for a new Icecast2 streaming server, what would you buy? What box, hard drives, LAN cards, etc.? The project I am involved with is helping community groups in UK webcast live public meetings and events. Democaster also archives Icecast streams for on-demand streaming or download. We are focused on high accessibility and low cost. See: http://dowire.org/wiki/Democaster Because

Another web-based vorbis player
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This one looks promising: https://core.fluendo.com/flumotion/trac/browser/cortado/trunk/README It is JS-controllable, so if I can force myself to sit down and do some web hacking, I might be able to create a myspace-like player that'll let people select different tracks to listen to. It's not flash, but it seems pretty lightweight. - -ken

Is Cortado dead?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 I am really interested in an alternative to the widely used flash video-players. itheora does a really good job by integrating cortado in an easy to use framework to allow the user to play the file either in his own media player or the cortado applet. But the actual version of Cortado has a really grave bug that makes playing some videos with java

Streaming vorbis support
Hi! I'm setting up a streaming audio server for the student radio here in Stockholm. I'm of course going to primarily use Ogg/Vorbis, but I'd like to know how well Ogg/Vorbis streaming is supported on different platforms. I know it works well Windows (for example w/ recent Winamps) and Unices (XMMS, ogg123 etc.) but I'm not so sure about other platforms, most importantly Mac-OS

non-threaded Ogg/Vorbis/Theora player implementation(java)
hi, i'm a student of Udine University in Italy. I'm writing a project for Java Micro Edition to send a video stream from pc to phone. The player in that Java Platform doesn't work so I have to write "some" code. I'm looking for a java implementation for h263-mpg codec. Can you help me please? Theora & Vorbis on your mobile phone
Hey guys + gals, Would you know where to point me to for an open source or commercial implementation of Theora & Vorbis for your mobile phone? Maybe as a Symbian app? Maybe a Java midlet? I'd like to be able to download & play video files to the mobile as well as maybe stream them too? Am I asking too much? :-) Thanks in advance for your help! Callum.

servers available _now_ .
Hello :-) I had a look at the servers that can stream Theora. I saw that ffmpeg was greatly appreciated. What's your opinion ? Is there any chance that IceCast can do it (What source would be used? Ices?) ? I really want to support Xiph products. I saw that page http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Apps/AV/video-streaming-servers.html but it's a bit old now, may be things have changed :-) Well,

First public release of Flumotion Streaming Media Server
Hey everyone, we finally bit the bullet and threw out our firstborn for public consumption. This release gives users access to the basic features of the server and demonstrates its distributed capabilities. We will follow up with a release within a couple of weeks to

Can I recommend theora to my readers yet? Please?
Hi, I'm working on updates to the WWW FAQ (okay, it's a little much to use the singular in 2006, but it was the first!). Embedded multimedia has been a sore spot for a while. I've been recommending that people embed old-school MPEG, because it works in all players. But it's awful. Terrible bitrates. I'm on the verge of recommending SWF instead, even though it's a hideous

Java and ogg/vorbis
I am a bit confused to how Ogg/vorbis works. This is my understand. Vorbis is an audio codec that can be used instead of MP3 and it is open source. If this is true, what is Ogg? I think it is some kind of wrapper that allows you to stream Audio and Video. Am I right? Also I want to encode short videos in Xvid and then encode the audio in vorbis. Then I want to stream this over the Internet

Processing library based on Cortado
Hi, I wrote a Processing.org library based on Cortado. Maybe the Cortado developers are interested in it. At the end of November I sent a question to this list asking about the licensing of Cortado and its libraries (see http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/theora-dev/2009-November/004015.html). As I wanted to create a LGPL library, I rewrote the package com.fluendo.utils, I don't use

Attempts at live streaming (long)
I would like to hear from anyone who has had some success in this area. I have got it to work but the picture freezes and stays frozen when there is a lot of motion. I will share how I got to that stage since I have tried some different approaches to those I have seen documented so far. I currently stream live video events for a non-profit using Helix Producer but would like to move to something

Fwd: Merging jorbis upstream and the cortado jorbis fork back into one
Of interest to some on the list. Anyone familiar enough with Java to know how we go about detecting/using/incorporating an external Jorbis build into the Cortado jar ? Or are we supposed to download sources into our tree and build the whole ? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Hans de Goede <hdegoede at redhat.com> Date: Thu, 04 Nov 2010 15:31:31 +0100 Subject: Merging jorbis

Cortado status controls in IE6
I have need to make an .ogv file available on IE6. I am using cortado_latest.jar to make this happen. Hovering over the playing video causes the status bar to appear as expected. In the status bar the play button, pause button, and stop button all work as expected. However the slider has no effect. I have examined and tried several of the parameters but see nothing that would make the slider

Live HTTP streaming of Theora files
What's the easiest way to broadcast a "live" event using Theora? - Microsoft Media Services uses a closed protocol (MMS) and special streaming servers, so I'm not excited to go that way, even though it seems to be the most obvious choice. (Though I'm not sure if I could convince it to use Theora anyway.) - I could encode the entire file into an Ogg/Theora file and just

Live Streaming and embeding into webpage on OSX
hello free streamers, after i had not much luck with " Darwin streaming server" ( because of a lack of NAT implementation ) i got a hint from a Wireless mailing list to try OGG/Theora streaming. I ?ve found a great site here <http://www.oddsock.org/guides/video.php> and downloadet and installed "icecast" and the theora libs with success on my macintosh mini ,
