Questions on setting up icecast
yep, they simply forward the bitstream to icecast. And in general, bitrate changes are handled by most listening clients, although very few I have found (if any) can handle samplerate changes appropriately. oddsock At 10:03 AM 9/14/2004, you wrote: >You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. Questions on setting up icecast
What's the difference between bitrate and samplerate? Samplerate is like 44KHz or 48KHz? You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. Can they handle collections of MP3s of different bitrate? Icecast/LiveIce Problems
I'm having a couple problems trying to get Icecast and LiveIce set up on a Linux 7.0 system. I'm running Icecast 1.3.10 without a config file (using all defaults). I can use shout to stream to it and connect to it from a windows machine running WinAmp. It works OK except winamp stops every few seconds and tells me that it's buffering. It buffers for a few seconds and then plays a

Icecast/LiveIce Problems
I'm sorry, I meant RedHat 7.0 of course. That machine is running kernel 2.2.14-5.0. I've tried the XMMS LiveIce plugin and XMMS cores as soon as it's enabled. Thanks for the info on buffering. alternatives to liveice and darkice
are there any decent alternatives to live audio streaming [via. soundcard] to darkice or liveice? after a few days fighting with darkice, i finally managed to bring it up only to see that it takes 55% of my cpu just to encode one 128kbps stream using libmp3lame. a similar 128kbps stream only takes up 36% cpu using liveice. maybe i have something configured wrong, but i was sortof expecting darkice

No sound (ices-2.0.0, RH9)
Hello, I've successfully installed Icecast 2.0.0 and Ices 2.0.0 on a Compaq EvoN600C running Redhat 9. Everything runs quite well (no error loggued by Icecast or Ices), the Ices stream is seen as a source by Icecast and friends are able to listen to my radio (I see them as listeners in Icecast admin)... the problem is that they ear only silence ! Looks like the streaming is OK but Ices could

XMMS with liveice-xmms plugin
Am I making the right assumptions.... I run icecast and then only need to run xmms with the plug in enabled to stream to the net.... Or do I need to run LiveIce as well??? When I try running liveice and xmms together xmms locks up. Any ideas? Using liveice-xmms with icecast
hi, in an attempt to set up a little stream, i downloaded and installed both icecast2 and liveice-xmms. i can start icecast2, and i can modify the settings to the xmms plugin from within xmms, but i'm at a loss as to how to create a stream, connect it to the server, or then listen to it. i've been looking at the docs on the icecast page[1]. can anyone point me in the right direction?

Frustrated with Ubuntu XMMS, XMMS-Liveice, and icecast
I have XMMS and XMMS-liveice setup to use ALSA to stream audio to my icecast server using LAME encoding. I start the sound file and i can see XMMS playing away happily, icecast detects the connection and shows the source as being connected, but no bandwisth useage. If I connect to the icecast server I get a client connection, but no sound. Scanning other forums there appears that there might

Hi, I am the current webmaster at WUML (www.wuml.org) a college radio station. We are looking to purchase a new web cast server which we are planning will run IceCast, but it is a little unclear on the system requirements that IceCast requires. I read somewhere that IceCast can run on as little as a 486 with 32mb of ram but that sounded like those specs were for streaming mp3s saved on that

Switch to static file when stream unavailable...
I've combed through the archives and can't really find an answer to this. Essentially, I'm trying to set-up streaming for a college radio station. There are several programs which are syndicated that we apparently can't rebroadcast. The easiest thing that came to mind was setting up a cron job to shut down liveice at the appropriate time, swap index pages on the web server

vorbis bitrates - offtopic
Hi, I'm experimenting with IceCast2, using DarkIce to generate the stream. I have found some peculiarities with the vorbis bitrates. In DarkIce, I call vorbis_encode_init() with about the following values: vorbis_encode_init( &vorbisInfo, 2, 44100, 96, 96, 96); which by all reasons should generate a 96 kb/s stream, as all max_bitrate, nominal_bitrate and min_bitrate are set to 96.

I am new at list and I would like to introduce myself: I am from Tuxtla Guti?rrez, Chiapas, M?xico, and I am in Spain right now, studying at university, i am majoring in new tecnology in media. Actually i am trying to mount a radio statio with this software, Ice cast, but I don't understand how to make my xmms player get mounted in live_xmms in ice cast. In fact, i only can
