Looking for a client to feed Icecast
Would like to use a Windows client with a line-in processor to
feed an icecast server. Have tried Winamp, but could not get the
plugin recommended in this forum to work. Looked at the Sonique site,
and could not find plugins that would do line-in and server out.
Any recommendataions?

Looking for a re-encoding utility
Please pardon me if you have already seen this posting, but I received
no postings from the list for a week....I assumed the list was down.
I would like to batch re-encode MP3 files on the Icecast host.
A command-line utility to take say a 56kbps MP3 file as input and
produce a 20kbps MP3 file as out would be ideal.

Setup of Winamp as a source
How does one set up Winamp as a source for Icecast.
I've already figured out how to use the line input for Winamp's input,
but I can't figure out which output plugin to use to feed the server.

Client Woes
My problem is not with the Icecast server, but with my user's ability
to get a decent client to play the streams. I have 3 Icecast streams
created using Ices, and the mountpoints have the mp3 extension.
My users and I have observed:
1) If Quick Time is brought up by the browser, it skips and chokes on
the stream.
2) If Windows Media is brought up by the browser, it will do either of

You should ook around in Realplayer's configuration setting.
The problem is probably that you as a user, installed Realplayer, and
clicked yes every time without looking through what it was going to do.
So now you need to manually remove the association of .m3u files to
realplayer and make sure winamp opens them. It's possible you can do this
from realplayer, but maybe that's been

Using stdin with ezstream
Sorry to bother you guys but I couldn't find the answer to my problem
anywhere else.
I've installed ezstream_win32_0.1.1_setup.exe to my Windows XP box and
I am trying to use the stdin streaming functionality w/ IceCast v2.2.
ezstream works well when I set the filename to a file, however, it
does not work with stdin.
With filename=stdin the source_client_connections stat in IceCast is

Oh, the problems that RealPlayer causes run much deeper than this - and
aren't solved quite that easily. The fix below *should* work, certainly -
but it won't. Anyone experiencing conflicts after installing or updating
Winamp or RealPlayer should read through the stuff in the support forum at
www.winamp.com.

Looking for a client to feed Icecast
Todd --
I was actually able to get this working with the WinAmp plugin, Oddsock
(www.oddsock.org) last night. The configuration is a little twitchy, but
worked well for my purpose. Email me directly if you need help.

OT: whats your opinion of ODDSOCK streamTranscoder?
This is all happening on a box with:
Win 2k SP3
512K RAM
1.2 GHZ Celeron
The PC has noother load...all its doing is downsampling an MP3 stream to
lower bitrates.
I'm using the LAME_ENC.DLL with streamTranscoder. There is no version number
tagged on the lame_enc.dll, but the file is dates July 2002.
When I refer to "skipped and popped and dropped" I am referring to your

What is everyones opinion and expierience with using ODDSOCK
streamTranscoder to downsample mp3 streams?
I tried it on Windows 2000 and then compared it against shoutCAST DSP
plugin. It sucked. It skipped and popped and cut off the first 1/2 second of
each track and dropped. It sucked, while shoutCast DSP was flawless.
What attracted to me to streamTranscoder was you don't have to run an MP3

Best way downsample stream from 128 to 56 on the server?
Hi!
We want to over our stream in better quality (128 or 256) - but we still have
listeners using ISDN ... what's the best way to create a 56'er stream from the
128er send to the server?
The downsampling has to run on the debian streaming server.
