Winamp decoder plugin user-agent ident
Hi: Have been testing the latest winamp plugins on my icecast2 stream (http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/test.ogg <plug plug>) and I noticed that in the field where the player/browser is listed in the log entries I see Mozilla for the winamp plugin. Isn't this ummmm. wrong? Geoff. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:

Server-side streaming roundup
Hi Icecasters! I'm trying to gather information about the open source streaming scene (server-side) and, well, I consider three contenders (am I missing one?) for the "best streaming architecture". They are (in no particular order)... - (Vorbis's)? Icecast 2.0 + Ices - Apple's Darwin Streaming Server (Quicktime Streaming Server) 4.1 - Real's Helix Platform My study

Congratulations and a question
Congratulations on inclusion in the Real Helix thing. :-) I do have a question, however. While I am very impressed by Vorbis 1.0's quality even down to "-1", vorbis seems very much a VBR format, which is great if the file lives on your hard drive, but a mixed bag for streaming over a modem connection. How well does Vorbis compare to existing streaming formats, including

Multiple bitrates from live source
What is the best way to set up multiple streams, at multiple bitrates, from the same line-input audio source? I currently offer a 96 Kbps stream of the line-input of a D-Link DSB-R100 radio tuner. I'd like to offer a 32 Kbps stream as well, for 56K modem users. Should I run multiple copies of liveice on the machine with the soundcard? Or should I have ices reencode the 96 Kbps stream down

IceCast + Real Audio?
In the notes for 2.3.0 it says that IceCast can function as a RealAudio/Helix server. Does this mean that it does the quality negotiation as well, ratcheting the bitrate up and down if it needs to? Or am I reading this all wrong? Thanks. -- //// Jason M. SULLIVAN jsullivan@nc.rr.com |c-oo http://www.jason0x21.org \_- "That's not music,

OpenSSH 3.4p1 hostbased auth - howto?
How do you enable hostbased authentication in OpenSSH? I have two Red Hat 7.3 machines running openssh-3.4p1, and I would like to be able to ssh from either of the machines to the other, as any user, without using passwords or per-user keys. My /etc/ssh/sshd_config contains: [...] IgnoreRhosts no HostbasedAuthentication yes [...] My /etc/ssh/ssh_config contains: [...]

Helix into Icecast2 loopback
Hello. I've made some progress on the issue. I found a tool called TrPlayer which is a text mode front end for real player - initially developed for the use of the visually impaired. The theory is that I can use this and pipe the live stream into vsound which then in turn is passed into ices or another source client. Trouble is, I'm having all sorts of trouble compiling Trplayer on the

Winamp/Oddcast Silent output
Hi everybody, I have an easy question here. Is there any silent output option for Winamp/Oddcast? I have a computer that I use as an encoder but it has no soundcard installed so I am using SAM2 because there is a "Silent output" option in the audio mixer pipeline. It means the sound encoded never passes through the soundcard because everything is managed by the software. I prefer free

Multiplexed Ogg and header problems.
I there was a discussion on the vorbis list about Real Audio SureStream (tm) format. The basic idea was that they put multiple RA files with different compression levels. So when they have to switch the bit rate due to bandwidth changes, they choose from the streams they have. Since peeling is a long time away, it could be implemented with ogg vorbis multiplexing several times the same
