winamp 5 release
I just downloaded & installed the final release and it works fine for me. There is still the old problem with Winamp crashing when a vorbis stream is interrupted or the internet connection is dodgy. This is an issue with in_vorbis.dll v1.35 and Nullsoft don't appear to want to fix it. I'm having to recommend my clients to use MP3 for streaming to supermarkets, malls etc because of

libshout: Streaming MPEG Audio Layer 2
Hi, I have been trying to stream MPEG Audio Layer 2 using libshout in my dvbshout program: http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~njh/dvbshout/ However I have been using the shout_send_raw() API call because the MPEG audio header parser rejects audio that isn't Layer 3. Streaming layer 2 works in exactly the same way as Layer 3 and without any problems. Would it be possible to get src/mp3.c

Beginning Questions
Dear all, I am new to rails and I am considering it for a project. What I would like to know (and I couldn''t straightforwardly find an answer to) is: - is it possible to develop commercial web applications in which you can pack a whole web app and send it to a client without disclosing the source? - is there any library of existing components already implemented? - which solutions are

Zoo or TS
Hi everyone, I'm trying to plot some data across time. I have a list of articles, ranks, date/times, authors, etc. Someone suggested using zoo and someone suggested using ts. I'm pretty new at this and have been trying a simple if() plot() statement, but it doesn't seem to work. I keep getting an error that Title does not exist. Basically its saying that the headers do not exist as

New York Times - R - article a fraud?
I worked on some ad data before and I found NYT article very biaised and not far from a fraud... Anyone knows if they got money from a - company - to play 'R'? Check out the title: R U Ready for R? Seems to me this title was stolen from XLSolutions www.xlsolutions-corp.com and they never mentioned XLSolutions in the article! They mentioned commercial R....never mentioned

Mailscanner and Postfix
I have just followed Johnny Hughes' excellent walk-through on how to install Postfix, MailScanner with ClamAV and Spamassassin and it seems to be running fine during in house testing, but I want to make sure that it behaves itself when it goes live serving about 250 users; I have read comments elsewhere both for and against the use of Mailscanner with Postfix, and when I mentioned the subject

rpm package for sles10
Hi, I thought about changing the RPM package the guys of Redhat created, because I wanted an Init Script for SLES10 built-in. I started documenting the steps I took. Maybe it''s useful for someone else, although in German.. but the basic steps should be useable. My little Installating puppet Howto: http://wiki.njh.eu/Konfigurationsmanagement#Installation_3 The Init Script for SLES10:

US 2004 Elections map
even for people who didn't like the outcome of the US elections this year, it must have been a joy to see all the nice (and not so nice) graphs that were shown. As an exercise, I recreated the map shown on the NY-Times website [ http://www.nytimes.com/packages/khtml/2004/11/03/politics/ 20041103_px_ELECT_GRAPHIC.html ] If you're interested,

perl bindings
Hi All, When are the XS-based Perl bindings going to be deprecated in favour of the SWIG bindings? Please remove the dead RHEL RPMs from: http://xapian.org/download I've built RPMs for RHEL5/CentOS5 (with a different signing key) here: http://rpm.eprints.org/xapian/5/ RHEL4 is eol and shouldn't be used. For my own convenience I have written an RPM for the repository: rpm -ivh

R CMD check for packages in a bundle
Hi [MacOsX 10.4.6; R-2.2.1] I have a bundle that comprises three packages. I want to run R CMD check on each one individually, as it takes a long time to run on all three. I am having problems. The bundle as a whole passes R CMD check, but fails when I cd to the bundle directory and run R CMD check on a package directory. The whole bundle passes: octopus:~/scratch% R CMD check

Line over Boxplot
Very much a rookie at R, and have only recently started using it again so pardon the simple question. I am trying to produce a box plot from one data set and then overlay a line plot from another data set. The box plot data set is made up of 20 sets of 30 data points, or 600 total data points. The line has only 30 total data points. The box plot is plotting fine, but for some reason, the line plot
