Transcoding from icecast2->icecast2 results in "garbage"
actually, the reason I suggested you post to the list was so that you could
explain what you are, in fact, trying to do, and see if anyone else has a
recommendation on another approach, since your *specific* use of transcoder
is having troubles....so perhaps you should try that...

restarting streamtranscoder w/ out killing listeners
Hi folks
I'm running streamtranscoder on my icecast server. Unfortunately,
after 5-15 minutes of transcoding, it sometimes produces jumpy/skippy
audio or drops the stream altogether. What I'd like to do is restart
streamtranscoder every 5 minutes. However, when I kill
streamtranscoder and bring it back, all listeners on the stream get
killed. How can I prevent this? In other words,

on-disconnect -> streamtranscoderv3 (linux server)
hi,
so far I'm very happy that I have running an icecast server with
streamtranscoder which autimatically transcodes a certein mountpoit
(ogg-high-quality) to low, mid and high mp3 stream on-connect.
but I'm stuck with two problems:
1. how to determine which stramtranscoderv3 process is reencoding this
particular stream? because doing <on-disconnect> just

Severe problem with Icecast2 and streamTranscoder
I have a setup where Icecast 2.2.0 is serving a single Vorbis stream.
The source is either a local ices2 or a remote Winamp/Oddcast. I'm then
running a streamTranscoder 1.2.8 instance on the server to transcode the
Vorbis stream to MP3 on the fly and send it back to Icecast, to be
served at a different mountpoint. My config files are very basic with
most settings at their defaults.

Yeah, there's a lot of spare CPU power and memory. The icecast server
takes 0,0% CPU and each streamTranscoder instance only takes 0,0-0,3%.
This is a dedicated Icecast server with 1GHz PIII and 512 MB RAM.

URL format for Icecast2 metadata updates

Wouldn't that require the admin password? Surely there's a way of doing it
which only requires the source password, heck there must be since
streamTranscoder is sending in metadata updates nicely without needing the
admin pw.

icecast2, ogg, mp3, etc
Hi,
Just wanted to clarify, can icecast2 not read OR broadcast any mp3, or
can it just not broadcast mp3 (but still play from a playlist)? I know the
quality would be dropped if it had to reencode them though.
And what's up with that POS Winamp3, it doesn't even play gg streams?!?
I use xmms, but we have winamp3 on a demo computer, it just sits and keeps
prebuffering. I need something

Icecast2 - Decode/Encode an Mount to another
I want to send from my local studio with Ogg Vorbis 96 KBit 44 Khz to my remote Icecast2 Server. Now i want Icecast2 or another tool to decode this Mountpoint and reencode it to MP3 96 Kbit 44 KHz.
So i want to have 2 Mountpoints
/stream.ogg <- original
/mp3 <- MP3 Mountpoint, with getting stream from stream.ogg

automating icecast2 startups
Hey Rado,
Ack... Yep, I'll give that a shot. Can't just shut down the streams at
any given time. This may have to wait for testing.
The friend I am helping set this up has decided the quality of Ogg
Vorbis FAR outweighs the benefits and performance of MP3. Plus, there
are the licensing issues involved with MP3.
Any ideas on how to do set up a dual stream, one for low bandwidth users

Transcoding ogg with curl, oggdec, ices2: problem after fallback due to oggdec
Hello,
oggdec is a very simple ogg decoder, and it fails in the following case:
a source A has a fallback A'
transcoder curl | oggdec | ices2 is transcoding to lower bitrates ogg
A fails, all the listeners are transfered to A'
oggdec fails because the stream content changed:

For the record, this looks like the older generation of streamTranscoder

OT: whats your opinion of ODDSOCK streamTranscoder?
This is all happening on a box with:
Win 2k SP3
512K RAM
1.2 GHZ Celeron
The PC has noother load...all its doing is downsampling an MP3 stream to
lower bitrates.
I'm using the LAME_ENC.DLL with streamTranscoder. There is no version number
tagged on the lame_enc.dll, but the file is dates July 2002.
