dare to compare -- live streams: ogg/WMA
hello, I like your point here .. it's difficult to make such a comparision, since yacast.fr choosed to stream like that. Why did they choose to stream like that? That's beyond me, since Radio France has a budjet of millions. The point of this comparision was to show why is Radio France doing and paying for something like this? Me, with cheap computers which were had no more value (well,

Is stereo vs. mono, and 22khz vs. 11khz even a fair comparison? 22khz vs. 11khz: 22khz, by definition, gives the 22khz stream much more frequency range and *opportunity* to sound clearer.

Just my opinion but I've found streaming with quality -1 22khz Mono produces the best sound quality for 32kb/s. 11khz stereo sounds like crap in comparison. I'm just waiting (impatiently) for OddCastDSP(v1) to support 22050 mono via the SQRSoft crossfader. If

listening to ogg with a Mac
hi, I'm not a Mac user, thus, my question is: What is the best way to listen to .ogg files with a Mac? At these bitrates, stereo is luxury you cannot afford. I think most listeners would not even notice they were listening to mono

live broadcast + WMA
Hi All, I have two questions. I have an icecast2 server installed, and I need to set up a Linux-based computer that sends a church's programs to the icecast server. (Both worship and teaching.) What application do you suggest? It would be really pleasing if I wouldn't need X11 to use the software, and it would display (with charactergraphics) the current signal level. The signal

cannot get icecast and ices totalk...authenticationfailed
I have the latest items, but cannot seem to figure out how to include libshout2 in the ices build...I put it into the requested conf file, set LIBDIR, and tried the --libdir param when compiling ices, with no luck. Thanks! Eric > > go to http://www.icecast.org/~brendan and get the latest libshout2 and > the latest ices-0.2.3. > > using the latest icecast2-cvs helps too. you can

cannot get icecast and ices to talk...authenticationfailed
I just tried with no mountpoint information, and I get the same results, icecast is still not accepting 'SOURCE hackme' as the first header, it only wants the password (verified by telneting in). So, how to I recompile libshout2 into the ices2beta? It doesn't want to take the command-line param, or the in.so.conf file setting (or the LIBDIR evn variable)... Or, can someone give me a

RE: Audio broadcasting... (fwd)
Hi vorbis dudes, I've been trying to encourage vorbis use for a somewhat well known person who is doing a weekly internet "radio" program. I guess they are finding out that WMA isnt too cross platform :-) Was wondering if someone could help out with these questions... The encoding platform is windows... Is vorbis suitable for 33.6k/56k streaming yet? Would be a good opportunity

ices2/icecast2 on a pen 100
hello, I got icecast2 and ices2 going on an old Pen 100 box. It's streaming a lecture given by Richard Stallman at the University of Aberystwyth in June 2002. The files are found on http://www.6809.org.uk/audio/ I had put the sample rate down to 24000, as the Pen 100 seem not to be able to handle anything about that. According ps aux, ices is taking 91 percent cpu. The box is working just

CBC radio's science show archives Ogg
Earlier today while listening to CBC radio's national science show "Quirks and Quarks", I was pleasantly surprised to hear that their audio archives are now offered in Ogg, in addition to mp3 and real. This is the first CBC show that I am aware of that offers their archives in formats other than the usual real/wma/qt. For those who don't know, CBC is Canada's only

trying to get better ogg quality for this clip
hi folks, in my (unlucky) first test of ogg vs other encoders, i found a case where wma and mp3pro sound much better than ogg at 64k. can anyone suggest a setting that i haven't tried yet that can rival the wma and mp3pro samples at 64k? it's the "gravel effect" that is troublesome. the part in question is the first 15 seconds of this wave file:

How to Remove DRM from WMA WMV
What is DRM? Why do we remove DRM from WMA WMV ? Have you download music and video from Windows Media Player, iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, bearshare, Spiral Frog, BBC iPlayer downloads? These popular WMA music and WMV movie download programs among the music fans always come with a disgusting word - 'DRM'. Most connections are around 48k I believe. Ross. --- >8 ---- List archives:
