A large streaming project

No idea, but that's going to depend on the bitrate and quality of the vorbis stream. The higher the quality, the more CPU it's going to consume, therefore the fewer instances will be able to run. A large streaming project

We were able to do this (all the music was preencoded) with 8 machines quite reliably. Basically 4 machines sourced streams, and 4 machines served them. Only three machines were really needed, so failures were taken care of if only one machine

A large streaming project
Just some more questions. As a guess, how many IceCast streams could be supported on one Linux PC (say 1.5Ghz PC). And a guess at how many OddCastDSP clients (with Winamp2) could be supported on a similar Windows PC. Are there any other solutions for streaming Ogg Vorbis without IceCast? Thanks, Ross Levis. add AAC+ file header to new streams
Hi all. I believe there is an opportunity to have thousands of Shoutcast servers replaced with Icecast. What will do this is if Icecast can send a MPEG-4 AAC+ header as the first data a player receives when connecting to an audio/aacp stream. The reason for this is the AAC+ support added to Adobe Flash player last December. I could hear a loud sigh of relief each around the world when this was

How do I list in YP? icecast2 ices0
I can understand wanting to boost the adoption of Xiph codecs, but I think restricting the directory to vorbis streams only will not help this endeavour. I can imagine it will just piss a lot of people, including myself, and give Xiph a bad name. I get very few listeners of my AAC+ stream now since this occured. The restriction is not an insentive to switch to Ogg Vorbis at all. The incentive

Icecast on my website
Hi Ross, It's hosted on a system which I have no access to. On 10/14/17, Ross Levis <ross at stationplaylist.com> wrote: > Are you operating your own web server or is it hosted elsewhere? Just my opinion but I've found streaming with quality -1 22khz Mono produces the best sound quality for 32kb/s. 11khz stereo sounds like crap in comparison. I'm just waiting (impatiently) for OddCastDSP(v1) to support 22050 mono via the SQRSoft crossfader. If

How do I list in YP? icecast2 ices0
I thought the YP code was going to be fixed to use less resources so it could be used with other stream formats. It seems to be taking a long time. As it is now, Icecast2 is not a good solution for those wanting to be on a popular directory. I am forced to recommend using Shoutcast to my clients so they can get onto a popular directory. I would prefer to recommend Icecast2. Ross Levis.

Stream playback issue
Can anyone tell me why this AAC+ Icecast stream will not play. http://s2.stationplaylist.com:7014/listen.aac.m3u The Icecast Server web page looks fine with a 64k stream. We host a small number of streams and other 64k AAC+ streams are working fine but this one won't play in any player. Thanks, Ross. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

Hi Rob The stream format has nothing to do with your audio files. I probably have 70% MP3's and 30% Ogg Vorbis files, and 1 or 2 WAV files for jingles on my hard drive. I only encode new CD's to Ogg Vorbis. But my station is streaming in AAC+ format, and I have also streamed in Ogg Vorbis format simultaneously. There is no way I would bother streaming in MP3 format. It's 15+

Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I was under the impression that Tobias's Direct Show filters would allow Windows Media player to play Ogg Vorbis streams, but after testing it here, apparently it doesn't. Does anyone know if there is anyway of making WMP play vorbis streams? The company I'm involved with who will be creating thousands of internet stations will most likely need WMP to play the streams, since it is

Newage/World music stream
Just to let everyone know I'm now broadcasting an IceCast2 Ogg Vorbis stream of my LPFM station courtesy of MediaCast1 (http://www.mediacast1.com) for 10 hours a day Monday to Friday 20:00 - 08:00 GMT. Newage, World, Folk, Easy Listening format. 40kb/s mono. Regards, Ross Levis http://soulfm.stationplaylist.com http://winvorbis.stationplaylist.com http://www.stationplaylist.com --- >8

I mentioned this 1 or 2 years back but it's still not fixed. I presume it's a Icecast2 server problem. I'm using the latest Oddcast client, and my server host Mediacast1 has just updated to the latest Icecast2. I'm currently streaming a track in Vorbis format called: M?ire Brennan - I L?thair D? It shows this correctly in Winamp on the broadcast PC. On the Icecast Status page,

Probably a couple of hundred. There's been no effort put into optimising this - with some work, this could be lifted a lot further. Clients? On a 1.5 GHz server, you're unlikely to

Winamp v5.22 / oddcast / aac+
I believe that Oddsock is using a Content Type of aacp. Using a .aac extension with this Content Type may present a conflict. This might actually be by design. I will do some further testing with Winamp and report here tomorrow. I will also double-check with the developer of Winamp for complete clarification. FYI, Orban Opticodec-PC allows the use of either Content Type of aac or aacp. aac is

Streaming
This may be interesting to some. I recently discovered AllCast.com which has developed a p2p streaming solution. Unfortunately they decided to use WMA due to it's video capability but hopefully they could be presuaded to switch to Vorbis later when Tarkin is available. For audio though, it appears a good way to reduce bandwidth requirements at the broadcasting end and potentially

AACplus
Sorry for the crosspost but it's relevant to Vorbis and Icecast I believe. I'm seeing more and more streaming stations using AACplus, with many listeners being amazed at the sound quality. Most say that a 48kb/s sounds better than a 128kb/s MP3, which would put Ogg Vorbis at around 96kb/s IMO. That means only half the bitrate is required in AACplus compared to Ogg Vorbis for the same
