Ices won't read config file?
Hope this list is for ices support too :)
When I try and start ices with a simple config file it barfs and isn't happy
[root@deskpro bin]# ./ices -c /usr/local/icecast/etc/ices.conf
Cannot use config file (no XML support).
Ices Exiting...
But if I pass basically all the same paraemters via the command line it's
fine streams PERFECTLY!
[root@deskpro bin]# ./ices -P passwd -F

[newbie] couple of quick questions
Hi,
newish to icecast - have downloaded and installed icecast on Redhat8
without a problem, my intention is to stream my entire MP3 collection -
couple of quick questions:
1: Do I need 'shout' to be able to stream playlists? I know it's not
supported anymore and it doesn't appear to be bundled with the latest dist?
2: Whats the best way of creating a random playlist from

Streaming ogg vorbis to windows media player
Hi,
I have been struggling with streaming ogg vorbis audio to windows
media player for a couple of days now with no success. I would really
appreciate if someone could provide more insight into this. Please do
let me know if there is any other mailing list which would be
appropriate for a question like this. I posted this to vorbis mailing list.
However this issue could not be resolved.

Ogg Vorbis Playback with Windows Media Player
Where do I go and what do I download to enable Ogg Vorbis Playback with
Windows Media Player? I found something on sourceforge.net but at the top
it says
Current (Test and development files; these can damage your whole DirectShow
system and probably requires a complete Windows reinstallation)
o I don't want to do that, I want to make sure I pick the right thing first
;)

Q: Which Vorbis plugin for Windows Media Player?
Hi,
I had downloaded recent Direct Show Plugins for Windows media Player, but the
sound was terribly: A lot of noise and like in the background the music I was
expecting to hear?
Which is a recommended (working) version of Ogg/Vorbis plugins for Windows Media
Player (9)? Displaying the standard tags would be nice as well...

Vorbis streams on Windows Media Player
I would be in the same ballpark as you, Ross. We are looking at
icecast2/ices as a replacement for our RealAudio streams, as the
licenses we have will expire VERY soon, and we frankly don't have the
money to go dump on new ones. We're looking at serving literally
thousands of listeners, most of which have RealPlayer installed at home
or at work, but have never heard or played with WinAmp,

Thanks.

Vorbis in Windows Media Player 9, (partial) success
As I said on http://wiki.xiph.org/ClientSupport
I managed to get WMP9 under Windows 2003 to work with OGG vorbis files.
Requisite : OggDS 0.9.9.5
- they can be opened with the Open... dialog and WMP does not complain any
more that it is an unsupported file format
- they can be dragged from explorer into WMP and WMP will play them without
any complaint
- they can be added to the media library.

Audio Capturing
So how would that would work?
I guess I could use Darkice to broadcast the stream to a new mountpoint, and
then use winamp, xmms or streamripper on another PC to attach to that mount
point and save the stream to a file - kludgy but would work. I realize I
could use something like waverc, but that would chew up significant disk
space as I need to capture this audio (approx 2-3 hrs) at 128K VBR.

Darkice memory leak
ups, sorry for fuzzy description. I use "top" to watch the running
processes. It updates every 5 seconds.
I am running RedHat 7.2, download from one of Redhats mirros. Haven't
installed any updates of Redhat 7.2. The box is a fresh PC with Amd Athlon
1700XP, 128MB, two SoundBlaster 16 PCI using OSS drivers.
Any info missing?
