ULOG logging may fail on some ulogd/logrotate configurations
FYI.
I have not been able to determine 100% that logrotate does this, but ulogd
appears to stop logging whenever logrotate runs. So far, the only obvious
commonality that I see is that logrotate ran and that the
/var/log/ulogd/ulogd.syslogemu is completely empty until I restart ulogd.
I have proven that the logging is broken by manually performing a network
operation that Shorewall normally

Some simple questions
Thanks for the response, Jim, you told me most of what I needed to know.

Well, heh, I'm not sure if an ARM running at ~200mHz - with a fair amount of
other stuff to do at the same time - really qualifies as "enough CPU." Is
there sort of a rule of thumb for how much gumption a chip

Very Cool.........Asterisk Made Wired Magazine
Hi Guys,
The article "They've Got Your number" in the Dec 2004 issue of WIRED
magazine mentions Asterisk PBX (on p.100). The article is about phone
phreaks hijacking cell phones with Bluetooth technology along with spoofing
CID to pull some clandestine hacks on the PSTN. Anyhow, Asterisk is
mentioned as the PBX of choice for an outfit: Telephreaks.org out of Florida
that has built

Adding text to page margin with lattice graphics
R: 2.12.1
OS X
Colleagues
I am working with lattice graphics for the first time and I am confused by some aspects of controlling these graphics. The most pressing issue is the following:
I can print the graphics without problems with the command:
print(MYFUNCTION(SOMEOBJECT)
However, I would like to add margin text (this terminology might not apply in this setting). I am able to do so with

RE: How to log and block specific application a ctivity
Have read the comments about Shorewall not being a personal
firewall, etc., and am not necessarily advocating such use,
but, trying to get into the poster''s head, and doing some
creative thinking, thought that possibly some form of EGID
rule might help out if there is a reasonable reason behind
the question. It is not hard for me to see how something
like this could be useful.

SPT vs. DPT Sanity Check (Samba rules)
Before wasting a lot of time going at this in the wrong list, I would like
to confirm whether my thinking is on or off base with respect to source
and destination ports.
Samba is being blocked by fw2loc even though I have accept rules
set up. I believe I can explain why, but I could be wrong.
I think that for some reason, samba is sourcing stuff on the commonly
used port 137, but trying to send

Tom Eastep
I have not been on the list for month''s. Because I just lost my wife to
breast cancer last week. I came on here to ask a question
and became sad once again to see that Tom threw in the towel. Shorewall is
the only thing that I could say does not die.
I started using seawall, Tom''s first endevor into firewall''s back when he
got dsl. and have used shorewall since.

just checking if you have seen this before Tom.
Been trying to track down an issue where when I issue a restart on
shorewall it stalls for maybe 5 minutes. I have tracked it down to the
removing of the rules portion but have not been able to get any closer
yet.
Some place after "strip_file rules" and echo "Deleting user chains..."
It seems to fix itself after a reboot of the system for an unknown time
then it resurfaces

Re: Exchange Server in DMZ (Tom Eastep)
Hello,
First my apologies .. I have had the flu for days and I am still groggy ..
So when I replied the whole message it must have been the drugs in my system
.. :-)
Second my apologies .. Steve had answered this question already quite well
along the same lines as myself .. I just had not read BOTH digests first ..

Tom,
Thanks for your great contribution to the community. Not only should you
be proud of your product (best iptables configuration I have seen so
far) and of your in-depth networking/routing/firewalling knowledge but
most of all of your helpful dedication and kindness to other people
which you have shown repeatedly on this list. We are all here indebted
to you.
Good luck to you and your family
