Can't you do it all from the one instance? I'm pretty sure I've seen it
done.

The shoutcast doc says:
If you want to broadcast to listeners, you'll need:
* 90Mhz or faster server, running one of Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME,
Mac OS X, Sparc Solaris 2.x, FreeBSD 3.x, FreeBSD 4.x, or Linux with
a libc6 kernel.
* 14kB of memory for every listener you want to broadcast to (i.e. 1,000
listeners means you need 14 Megabytes of RAM), plus whatever your

disappointed with group
Hi all,
must say I have found the help in this group very disapointing. Have
mail numerous times for help with some (in hindsight) simple problems.
yet no one (ok 1 person) has attempted to aid me.
If this group was ONLY filled with novices and users I could accept this
but I have seen members of the development team , and others who have
insight into the workings of icecast comment on other

ogg bitrate scaling
I'm trying to get a bitrate scaled live ogg stream working,
but I've not found out how to get this running with the
current tools. I've downloaded the CVS icecast2, and darkice,
but the only option seems to be if the same stream is actually
encoded multiple times at different bitrates. This is not
good for my cpu.
Can I get bitrate scaled ogg streams working with the current
tools?

Displaying song titles
OK, I'm a clueless newbie...I'm using icecast on a
colocated server as a mirror to my shoutcast
server. Everything works ok, but the only info
shown in winamp is the stream title (station ID)
when connecting to the mirror. The shoutcast server
displays song info as it should, but the mirror is
not parsing it. How do I set things up to display

Which is faster: searching in a file or in a database
Hello,
I have ten CVS file with about 20000 rows in each.
If I want to search in these files for example get every row that has
the word "apple" i a column, which is faster:
If I read all these ten files into the database and then making search
in the database
or
If I search directly in the files for this inforamtion?
Thank you! Please motivate your answer and include a code to make

Mount failed - icecast2 with ices
Ok so I finally realized that you need icecast2 for ogg streaming to work and
got the latest version of ices-0.2 installed. I am now unable to ever stream a
friggin mp3 never mind an ogg file. The server is up (icecast2) and I see it in
the web browser, when I try to run ices-0.2 I get the following errror. I am
running ices-0.2 as root and icecast2 as richard (might that be the problemo?)

I did not have a console attached when it rebooted, so I did not have a log of the initial boot. Now that I did, I see that it fails to mount its root volume.
It had been running previously on pvhvm_v10 for about

file only storing with ices 2 ?
Hi !
my question is how to totally switch off the Ices2
logging into the Icecast server ?
I wan't to use ices only to save archives (24h/d),
without any streaming, but when I try start Ices, see:
[2005-01-19 17:27:05] EROR stream/ices_instance_stream
Failed initial connect to localhost:8000 (Couldn't
connect: Connection refused)
and Ices clears buffers etc. and shuts itself down :-(
