what's the plans for the website :-)
I've had a server co-located which I would've dedicated it
and given admin access for beta testers, right now i am
giving it back. I am / was running shoutcast for few more
days.
It is very easy to install Ikonboard as a FORUM or vBulletin
or phpBulletin or something where you can get some action
and have some people stay on the site. I've installed bunch
of those. Have specific

Thats one of the reasons whey people should use Icecast (Read OPEN
SOURCE!). Using Icecast you actually have the posibility to get all
those mediaplayers out there working with those fucked up
players. Jack

Perhaps the real question you should ask is..."should" anyone worry
about this at all?
Personally speaking, I've been streaming for quite a while (barring a
few networking problems) and I've always seen the same behavior from
the shoutcast (Nullsoft) people.

[thomas@arkena.com: [vorbis] mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license]
Thomas,
You should post this hear, as it's just as relevant ;)
Hey guys, how do you feel now that you all owe Thompson $2k per year?
Vorbis look more interesting now :)
It's really disgusting how the technology is now worth more than the
music.
jack.

I declare ices stable
Hi everyone: Well, ices has been up for over a week now without
crapping out. It seems to be behaving itself quite nicely. Now if we
can figure out why icecast kicks clients with a not responding fast
enough error, everything would be hunky dory spiffo keen. It sure
isn't the client not being fast enough it's only six feet away and I
have the problem with even more powerful machines

Bug inkvm_set_irq
Hi,
Each time i try tou use vhost_net, i'm facing a kernel bug.
I do a "modprobe vhost_net", and start guest whith vhost=on.
Following is a trace with a kernel 2.6.37, but i had the same problem
with 2.6.36 (cf https://lkml.org/lkml/2010/11/30/29).
The bug only occurs whith vhost_net charged, so i don't know if this is
a bug in kvm module code or in the vhost_net code.

MP3 MetaData in WMP and RealOne
Hi Stephan,
I am talking about the meta-data: Artist - Song. It's weird because you are
the second person on the list who doesn't get it working in Real... I just
tried again with "BEK_dns" and "Radio Alcanzando Naciones" the 2 first MP3
radios I found in the stream directory and everything worked perfectly for
Real (but not for WMP).
In RealPlayer, I clicked

IceCast 2.2 MP3 stream and Real Player noise
Just checked using RealPlayer Windows 10.5 latest release.
This also glitches.
This is more than likely due to the differences in metadata between
SHOUTcast and Icecast2.
This is exactly the reason I was asking for the exact differences between
the protocols so I can help get these things fixed with the player folks.
Real is not the only player with this problem.
I may be in the AAC/aacPlus camp,

more directory questions
I'm learning more, it looks like shoutcast is never going to work
without using some closed source software, but the other directories
give me a "directory server error #0". Are these errors documented
anywhere?
Thanks,
Mark

More libshout questions (more info)
Okay, this is interesting....
The metadata functions work fine with icecast (2.0.0) but do not
work at all with NullSoft's ShoutCast server. . . Is that not supported
by libshout? Just curious...

listening troubles
I have successfully installed Icecast 2 on my server and I am using
Foobar2000 with Oddsock on a remote machine. It works great on iTunes
with the name of song and artist showing up. But on the Windows Media
player, my stream name shows up as the song. RealPlayer on Windows
has all sorts of trouble ... works on OSX though (but I don't really
care about RealPlayer for this stream) .....

Ogg doesn't measure up?!
Sorry for the crosspost but I think it's important.
Tom Pepper of Nullsoft, posted this yesterday.
"We've considered heavily which direction seems most appropriate for the
second generation audio codec of SHOUTcast. Our primary goal in the
decision process was to provide smaller consumption of bits while
maintaining similar quality and compatibility with existing playback
systems.

Icecast & DB storage
Hi List,
Has anyone had any experiences of using a DB as the source container for
MP3's with Icecast/IceS/Shout.
What we are trying to do is store the source media in Oracle, and/or
Postgres, as BLOB's. The aim is to not have the source-files on the
file-system so clustering and management becomes easier.
Any pointers?
Cheers
Phil
