reconnecting liveice
Hi everybody.
Is there a way to set up liveice so it reconnects to Icecast
automatically when the connection is lost?.
I tried to automate this process by using a crontab and a perl script,
but when liveice is run with the -@ 2 option It seams It doesn't realize
that the connection has been broken and continues "running". If I do ps
ax, I can see liveice is "running",

stream mp3's on demand.
those mp3's are prerecorded. is there a possibility to

HI
I just wanted to know if anybody has successfully or attempted to
install ices om Mac OsX ?
I have tried over the last few days, but no success, it would be good to
know firstly if it is compatible before I spew my term output here and
cause un-necessary spam
I have icecast-1.3.12 up and running with Shout, a fink

LiveIce and Zope
I have a very weird problem between Liveice and Zope.
I start LiveIce with a script shell that works well. Since I want to run
it under a Zope page I made a Zope "external method" to run the script
through a Python module. When I call the method, the script is called by a
function in the python module, and runs, but LiveIce does not work (seems
like it does not even start). The weird

more fun with LAME - error in bitstream?
Hi folks! Having trouble with re-encoding to 160Kbps.
I have:
Linux-Mandrake 8.2
Icecast 1.3.12
IceS 0.2.2 source
Lame 3.92
Hardware is: Celeron 533 w/256MB RAM, 40GB Disk
All seems to work at first but after a few songs it craps
out and give me an ERROR WITH BITSTREAM (or something real
close...sorry).
ALL of my MP3s are encoded using the --r3mix flag (VBR)
with LAME 3.91 or 3.89.
All

Lame, Bitrates, ReEncoding I
I'd like to use the Bitrate and Reencode features of ices and understand I
must recompile with lamelib.
However, it's Very Unclear where to begin here. This is noted in the
ices-0.2.3 INSTALL file:
I installed lame as a debian package so lame.h is in
/usr/include/lame/lame.h
and libmp3lame.a is in /usr/lib. configure finds everything automatically.

ices 0.2.2 does not reencode mp3s
I recently upgraded ices from 0.1.0 to 0.2.2. I have found that it
is not reencoding my mp3 stream, even though I have it configured to.
This is on a RedHat linux 7.0 system, kernel 2.4.11
ices build commands:
./configure --with-perl --with-lame \
--with-lame-includes=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/include \
--with-lame-libraries=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/libmp3lame/.libs

disappointed with group
Hi all,
must say I have found the help in this group very disapointing. Have
mail numerous times for help with some (in hindsight) simple problems.
yet no one (ok 1 person) has attempted to aid me.
If this group was ONLY filled with novices and users I could accept this
but I have seen members of the development team , and others who have
insight into the workings of icecast comment on other

no luck with streamers
Did you try liveice?
I'm using it without problems. I didn't try another one, but I can
suggest you liveice. In my case I'm taking the output from an radio set
which is connected to a sound card.
I hope It help you.

ices - unable to compile
Hi,
I'm the newbiest of newbies but recently converted over to linux from
WinNT...woohoo!
All is going well EXCEPT for replacing my Shoutcast server.
I'm able to compile icecast but am unable to compile ices due to some
missing libraries?
Can someone send me to a BEGINNER "HOW TO" that would describe the steps for
compiling and installing ices on my Mandrake 8.2 server? I

I downloaded the source for ices.
When I run ./configure, it it says LAME is not added, so that can't be good.
I tried adding the path to lame with '--with-lame[/usr/bin/lame]'
but that didn't work either.

Yet another LAME re-encoding question
Yes, I have checked the archives :)
I am running Ices 0.2.2 with icecast 1.3.10 and LAME 3.87. I have
compiled Ices without any problems, it found lame.h and the libraries, my
problem is that when I run ices, it doesn't re-encode the files. This is
the command line I am using to play around with:
./ices -b 64 -H 64 -F playlist -h localhost -p 8000 -P letmein -r -v
The log shows nothing

Info on Icecast/Shoutcast
I've been lurkin' for awhile and reading up on stuff
out there on the web.
But, do you really need to have Shoutcast in order to
run Icecast? I've looked thru the icecast.config file
and looks like you can set a path you MP3 directory,
correct?
Also, I'm able to manage the icecast server from a web
browser correct. I entered in

includes and libraries
Thanks to Mike for pointing me to ices and away from the braindead shout.
I'm kind of stumped on this one, now.
I compiled ices-0.2.3 just fine
it actually works! :)
Ok, so I want to reencode for a lower bitrate (ices -R) and it complains
that I need lame. ok, so I grab it.
I compiled lame-3.92 (and lame can at least be started on the cli)
So I go back to ices-0.2.3 and run:
# ./configure

ices 0.3 on FreeBSD
I have successfully compiled Ices 0.3 on FreeBSD (4.7 and 4.9).
You need to make sure that ALL the dependicies are installed (some depend on
others) and when compiling them, that they compile with no problems.
<p>Include some output of what errors you are getting and I #should# be able to
help you on your way.

Two streams, one source, two different bandwidths: A newbie question
Ok - here's what I want to do...
I compiled and installed icecast 1.3.11 and ices 0.2.2, and can get a
single lame-encoded stream working. What I'd like to do is set up two
streams - one at 48kbps, one at 128kbps - from one source. Reason being is
that I'd like to listen to the high-bandwidth stream locally (ie: in
another room of the house) while I listen to the 48kbps stream

icecast newbie
Hello All,
I'm a newbie in icecast and I'm trying to put it runnig nice,
(please, be patient with my english)
I got it running with shout, with a big directory of mp3 in my
playlist,
but after few seconds of transmission it begins to fail. My mp3 files
are all 128 at 44. May be the bandwidth to low??
Other question is how can I set a low stream to dial conections
of 56K with
