php script for listener count and www admin interface password
i will try that. about the acl_policy thing:
this controls access but nowhere does it specify an HTTP username or
password for accessing the WWW admin interface. i am NOT getting the
usual "403 Forbidden You don't have access to this entity (stream or
file). Please go away" error-- i can actually see the admin interface
but certain pages bring up an HTTP authentication dialog.

pre-RC1 downloads
Hi!
Propably a stupid question, but where can I get those brandnew encoders
from? It'd be great if someone could post those URLs to the list for
people like me who don't read any forums (no time, no fun :P). Thanks in
advance!
Obtw, CVS would be fine, too ... but as long as the new code isn't
merged to the main branch I feel pretty lost searching for it. Any help

possible solution...?
Which DSP are you running to feed your stream? (on winamp I am assuming)
If you are using the new shoutcast 1.8.2 DSP, it has had a lot of problems with super high CPU load and memory leaks. Try Oddcast instead (unless you can run ices or darkice) using VBR Mp3 streaming.
Nothing but happy times here on a win2k dual p2 333 with winamp (2.74) and Oddcast DSP Beta 25 connected to KasterBlaster

Icecast admin interface
I have a problem with Icecast web admin interface.
My icecast.conf file contains :
acl_policy 1

allow all *.via.ecp.fr
When connecting to my admin interface, I get a 403 error message ( You don't
have access to this entity (stream or file).), and icecast says "Kicking
unknown 48 [mallet.via.ecp.fr] [No mountfile found], connected for 0 seconds".

bassrumble, take two
Hi,
maybe this is of interest for someone out there. I found that taking the
difference between an original sample and its decoded Vorbis counterpart
is a cool way to mangle sounds (especially voice samples get a nice
weird touch :] ).
A side effect is that the result is not only exactly what information
the encoder omits, it also contains things that it adds to the sample
(artifacts). Leaving

Keeping icecast from kicking clients
I'm trying to setup Icecast so that clients can stay connected
indefinately. Basically sources will connect on occasion, but may
disconnect until they get instructions to connect again (think about a
jukebox that does not play music until something is selected. Now add in
distrubuted, thin clients and you realize why this is an important
feature).
According to the icecast authors, it is

possible solution...?
Uaaargh ... between now and the last mail, everything's gone kaploohey.
But I doubt that it concerns icecast too much in this case - the
streaming computer has a cpu load of 90-100% for no reason (it's an
athlon 1ghz with only winamp and ssh and the system monitor running
under win98). The playback on the streaming computer sounds good,
though, but what reaches the client side is no more

Icecast 1.3.11 drops clients?
Hi all-
I have a 850 mhz Redhat 6.1 server running IceCast v1.3.11, and I'm using
Winamp (also tried Sonique) on a 450 mhz win 98 box and connecting via 100
mbps switched LAN.
I will periodically get dropped by the icecast server.
It's stdout display shows (in part):
-> [11/Oct/2001:13:23:13] Accepted client 13 from [205.138.214.129] on
mountpoint [/default]. 1 clients connected

Admin question[s]

I tried that and then it tells me 'bad password' but my password is set

If I leave 'ADMIN' out it let's me in with the password. So maybe my
icecast.conf is wrong[?]
[attached] BTW, this is not on a public machine, just my private "radio
station" run on my lan.
Thanks

Where can I get Icecast 2.0?
I have Icecast 1.3.11 working just fine. Now I want to try to migrate
to the Ogg Vorbis thing, for purposes of static file streaming.
With 1.3.11 as a default install on RedHat 7.1, would I install v2.0
as a new product or overlay / delete the v1.3.11 install?
Thanks

TAG-mess
Hi,
<p>here's my €0.02 on that topic.
First of all, all those new tags are total overkill to be standardized.
They're only useful for people who both tag OGG files for a living and
listen to classical music only. Imagine what will happen when the Jazz
fans, and the Techno fans, and the Rock fans and who knows else demands
his very own, customized + standardized set of tags. And

Printer sharing with 64-bit Windows clients
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I have a problem accessing a CUPS/Samba shared printer on a Windows XP x64
Professional system (WinNT5.2 kernel). It seems from my searching that
this is a problem affecting only 64-bit Windows clients, but perhaps not
all 64-bit Windows clients.
