Icecast server terminates
Attila, from the random timing of your problem it may be that there is a song file, that is causing the problem (if you are randomly going through a set of mp3s). It may be an icecast thing, or perhaps your program has the problem. Try testing with a song that you know works, and just let it loop forever... Or I could be completely wrong :) the more information you can provide about the

icecast strangeness...
I've been trying to figure out as to why sometimes connections are properly negotiated and sometimes not. For example, using mpg123 as a client, I point it at my server (live.wuga.org): Directory: http://live.wuga.org/ Playing MPEG stream from ... MPEG 1.0 layer I, 96 kbit/s, 44100 Hz stereo Illegal Audio-MPEG-Header 0x62dd8776 at offset 0xfffffffb. It has

stupid question
Here's a stupid question: Do icecast/ices 2 ONLY support vorbis, or can they still handle mp3s? I am not ready to stream only vorbis yet, since I don't know how many people are equipped to hear them. If icecast/ices 2 don't support mp3, then I have some hacking to do on ices 1 (namely, I want to play the same stream at two bitrates concurrently), but if icecast/ices 2 do, then

Icecast source encoder that can handle http streams?
I need to set up an icecast server which will stream out local MP3s sometimes and relay another internet radio station at other times. In order to do this, it seems like the icecast relay support won't help me - there's no way to turn that on and off without changing the icecast config and restarting the server. The only external icecast source app that seems to handle http

problems with liveice
Hi! I'm running icecast 1.3.11 and liveice under Mandrake 7.2 Right now I don't have a sound card, but I will. Also I need to reencode the MP3s that I'm sending to the icecast server. I followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to work, when I first run icecast and after liveice I got this: from icecast Accepted encoder on mountpoint /icy_0 from localhost.localdomain. 1

Stuttering stream
This reminds me of a problem I've been having occasionally with ices... once in a while, instead of properly decoding and re-encoding the MP3 for my stream, it'll stream gibberish (basically, it sounds like a "cooked" MP3). After that, maybe 1 time out of 3, it'll segfault and crash. Even in verbose mode, ices doesn't report anything other than "resyncing".

Questions on setting up icecast
yep, they simply forward the bitstream to icecast. And in general, bitrate changes are handled by most listening clients, although very few I have found (if any) can handle samplerate changes appropriately. oddsock At 10:03 AM 9/14/2004, you wrote: >You mentioned these programs and their "no-reencoding" mode. ices0.4: icecast mp3 stream for source ?
Hello together, we would like to use IceCast 2.3.1 as a mp3 streamer source for reencoding several sources of ices 0.4. It is working perfectly already by using an mp3 playlist with local stored mp3s. But our plan is to upload an 160 kbps stream and want ices 0.4 to reencode to 96, 56 and 32 kbps. Uploading 1 getting 4 streams. We are streaming with SAM Broadcaster 2. Icecast runs on SuSE 9.3

Questions on setting up icecast
Sorry, gang. The FAQ didn't seem to answer me, nor did Googling... I merely want a simple solution to do the following: I am setting up a streaming server for in-house use. I want it to broadcast the RAW MP3 DATA from my actual MP3 files, as I listen to them in xmms. In other words, I DO NOT want: XMMS ---> decode to wave ---> re-encode to MP3 ---> icecast ---> listeners I

Icecast or Apache streaming for static files?
Hi, A simple question, that I would appreciate some opinions on: What are the advantages for using Icecast to stream static MP3 files rather than just letting Apache handle the streaming? question about use MP3s with LAME on Icecast
Hi. Is it possible (legally) to stream MP3s on Icecast that have been encoded with LAME encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net/license.txt)? So if a composer writes a track, then saves in MP3 with LAME, and wants to distribute with Icecast server, is it legal? Must he get license for MP3 (http://mp3licensing.com/royalty/emd.html) and pay any royalties for MP3 DISTRIBUTING or STREAMING as it stated

Assertion failure in journal_bmap() at journal.c:636: "ret != 0"
A scsi error (caused possibly by a loose cable) has left the processes accessing my ext3 file system hung in an unkillable state after it triggered an assert in ext3's journaling layer. I assume my only recourse at this point is to reboot. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Log messages appended. Thanks, -Jim Nov 21 04:04:04 attila kernel: SCSI disk error : host 0 channel 0 id 5 lun 0

Icecast/ices problem
I have an experimental installation of ices 0.4 streaming to icecast 2.2.0 on the same server (libshout 2.1). Ices had been very stable until this weekend, when it began dying after playing only a few MP3s (same files as before). Nothing in the ices.log to indicate a problem. The icecast error log shows this when ices dies: [2005-07-25 13:24:21] INFO source/source_main listener count on

ices and VBR mp3s?
I posted a while back about having trouble with ices 0.2.2 being able to re-encode VBR mp3s, and the response was that ices 0.2.2 did not reencode VBR mp3s. Are there any plans to include such support in future ices versions? If so, any ideas as to when such versions would become available? Thanks, -- "Shall life renew these bodies of a truth?
