Strangeness
Icecast has been working flawlessly for months serving hundreds of users a
day... But something strange is now going on... Do you know what it could be?
I start the icecast as usual:
/usr/sbin/icecast -c /etc/icecast/icecast.conf
Then the ices "player"
/usr/local/icecast/bin/ices -c /usr/local/icecast/conf/ices.conf
But now, the player is now dying constantly with Invalid

Icecast Shoutcast Darwin Oddcast Questions
Dear Mr. 'Sock --
First let me say "Major Thanks!!!" for your work in developing the Oddcast
plugin. I'm putting it to great use and will send you an article that I
recently published regarding my usage of the software...
I have a couple of questions I'm wondering if you can help me with...
(1) Is there a version (any version) of a streaming source feed for Linux

Strangeness
Ahhhh, this is very strange! MY icecast server started doing the
same exact thing today out of the blue! it looks as if hundreds of
sources try to connect or something. but why would we both have the same
problem at the same time after months of it working fine?

Modify but not create permissions
I am still trying to figure out why samba wont let me create in subdirectories
I've tripple checked everything and a few things leapt out at me.
*) I can modify a file inside a directory that I cannot create a file in. I
did not know it was possible under linux to do that.
*) If I set all perms on 777 I can create. But neither 775 or 755 will allow
it.
*) When I go into a mount

ices & reencoding
hi,
when using ices (0.1.0) with options -R -b <bitrate> (lame 3.89beta),
and a playlist with a mix of mpeg version 1, 2, 2.5 files, it seems that
only version 1 files work fine, the others have problems with the
sample rate. is this normal behaviour of ices/lame or do i get
something wrong?
thanks, uno

Using predict()?
I'm trying to solve a homework problem using R. The problem gives a list
of cricket chirps per second and corresponding temperature, and asks to
give the equation for the linear model and then predict the temperature
to produce 18 chirps per second. So far, I have:

Most productive manner of building custom xen packages
Howdy..
I've been doing a lot of experimental work with Xen 3.3.1 and a SuSE-based
Linux 2.6.27 kernel, as well as 2.6.28-based pvops dom0 support, on Ubuntu
8.10.
[hold the tomatoes and read on, please]
I did some basic work to save myself some time with kernel-package, and by
adapting the debian/ files from the Ubuntu 8.10 xen-3.3 source package,
which is a bit crippled.
I looked into

that was the original plan, and may still be implemented to enable relay
servers from multiple locations to cluster together, but as you mention,
this requires updates to

Cant create in a subdirectory...
I've battled this one for a few days now and its costing my sanity so I am
hoping that someone here has an answer
I am running the samba server 3.0.4 on a linux 2.4.25 server.
I can connect to my share point and authenticate fine
I can create files or directories in the root of the sharepoint fine
I can go into subdirectories and look at all the files...
But I cannot create in any

R.oo error upon construction
Hello,
Using the R.oo package, how do I throw an error if a field is not present
when the user of the class creates the object?
Using the example in the R.oo package:
setConstructorS3("Person", function(name, age) {
if (missing(name)) name <- NA;
if (missing(age)) age <- NA;
extend(Object(), "Person",
.name=name,
.age=age
)
})

X100P - Busydetect / calls being disconnected - Australia; tip.
Hi All,
This isn't really a question, but it's an issue I experienced that was
driving me crazy for a few days, so I thought it might be good for the
archives.
Basically what was happening was everytime a particular customer called
(long distance), the line would disconnect immediately after answering.
I thought it might have been the phone, so I swapped the phone with
another - still

OT: Cloning llvm repo over low speed connection != fun
Hah! Woo is me you say...
Have you ever stayed in a non-hilton hotel while traveling? I don't
mean couch surfing, but just average place.. I'd even add some above
average places to the list and when you get 100 people all on the same
line.. it can get "slow"...
Lets also factor in networking policies that favor normal internet
traffic.. So they may allow youtube to stream like

Thai vignette, cross-compile for Mac OS X, universal/multiarch (Fwd: Mac OS X builds of CelQuantileNorm, vcftools/samtools/tabix, and snpStats)
FYI.
There is a Thai vignette - and it went a lot further doing some Thai text
processing in R, than the earlier Chinese/Tibetan/LiangshanYi/Arabic vignette,
which was in reality just Chinese + Cairo graphics.
Managed to cross-compile an R package for Mac OS X from Linux; and it seems to
be working. See screenshots below. I'd be interested to know if there are less
obvious bugs; however

OT -- apcupsd messages
Does anyone here have any "feel" for the "Battery disconnected" and
"Battery reattached" log entries?
The rebooting came as a result of me turning off modems, router,
external drives, monitor, cordless phone and finally, the computer,
trying to locate a quiet but annoying "chirp". The "chirps" stopped
when I tilted the UPS to look at the front

Icecast Directory
Why does my stream not show up in the Icecast directory but it does show up in the Shoutcast directory?
I have the following lines listed in my icecast.conf file.
icydir yp.shoutcast.com
directory yp.icecast.org
If I check the icecast.log file I see the following is occurring every couple minutes.
[28/Dec/2001:11:12:04] [1:Calendar Thread] directory_touch_xa([yp.icecast.org:80
