Benchmarking mp3 vs. vorbis
oggenc -b 128 cdda.wav cdda.ogg lame -h cdda.wav cdda.mp3 ogg123 -d null cdda.ogg mpg123 -t cdda.mp3 Here we can see that the mp3 tools are clearly superior in terms of the numbers of characters saved on the command line. mp3 users enjoy a 20% saving. Real-life results may narrow this gap. Rik p.s. ;) --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage:

seamless looping mp3 files to icecast
Hello, The previous message seems to confirm that I'm posting to the right place - apologies if not. I have a project where I'm streaming live software-generated PCM audio to icecast via ices 2.0 stdinpcm - this works great for ogg vorbis (thanks very much guys!) I haven't been able to find a stdin-based solution for PCM->mp3->icecast, is there one? From the docs, it looks

Reencoding mp3pro in mp3pro or mp3 with ices
hi, if i reencode a stream that is in mp3pro (streamed with sam) to a lower bitrate by using ices/lame, is the reencoded stream mp3 or mp3pro ? thank you -- Mit freundlichen Gr?ssen Carsten Henkel mailto:carsten@chatlabel.de Eine gl?ckliche Frau braucht 4 Tiere: einen Jaguar in der Garage, einen Nerz im Schrank, einen Hengst im Bett und einen Esel, der alles

MP3/Vorbis comparision
In my efforts to convince people to hear how good Vorbis is when compared to MP3, I'm gonna be encoding tracks from my CD collection to both formats, then writing them to audio CD, so people don't have to install extra software to hear the difference. Has anyone got some suggested specs for the options for MP3 encoding when using CDex or Chun-Yu's MP3 writer for winamp (preferably in

ices stdinpcm
I have problems with the stdinpcm module in ices2. The player fills its buffer and doen't play anything and fill the buffer again and this repeats (with winamp). when I download the stream with wget I can play it from hard disk... is this a common problem with ices2 or do only I experience this behaviour? the oss module works. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/

Lowpass filter option required
I mentioned many months back that I intend to switch to Ogg/Vorbis from MP3/LAME once the final version is out but I need to have an adjustable lowpass filter option similar to LAME's. If this isn't done yet, could you please add it to your list for OggEnc. Specifically I need to cut all frequencies above 17khz. Thanks, Ross. --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/

streaming live mp3?
Hello, Is there a chance that either ices0 will get support for live-streaming from line-in or ices2 for streaming mp3? I tried darkice, but this didn't work out with a decent sampling rate on my box (see [1])... Also tried liveice, but this does not seem to work at all with icecast2 (when changing the port to 8001 I got this simple UI but icecast2 didn't notice any new mount). I looked

ices-0.4 Reencode problems
Since the mailing list archives are a bit difficult to go through at the moment, I'll go ahead and simply ask. If I fire up ices-0.4 with reencode enabled, at pretty much the end of every song I get an error: bitstream problem: resyncing... Occasionally it will also throw in a: mpg123: Can't rewind stream by NNN bits! And eventually after a dozen songs or so I'll get a rash

[thomas@arkena.com: [vorbis] mp3pro and the mp3 streaming license]
Thomas, You should post this hear, as it's just as relevant ;) Hey guys, how do you feel now that you all owe Thompson $2k per year? Vorbis look more interesting now :) It's really disgusting how the technology is now worth more than the music. jack. ----- Forwarded message from Thomas Kirk <thomas@arkena.com> ----- Date: Sat, 9 Jun 2001 11:58:23 +0200 From: Thomas Kirk

multiple ices streams and misc other stuff?
Hi all: I was just wondering when the multiple streams stuff might be checked in to cvs. I remember the gentleman working on it saying he basically had it running? The reason I'm asking is that I have received a number of requests to stream my mp3 stream at various bitrates. I kind of think running three ices streamers is silly if multiple streams will be available in the near future.

streaming both mp3 and ogg
hi all I use ices0.2.3/icecast1.3.12 on a linux box. I stream mp3 . I would like to make my listeners to discover ogg . My tracks are all in mp3 format. i reencode from 128/96 kbs and 44100Hz => 16kbs and 11kHz ( mp3 ) Is it possible , ( if yes tell me how ) to feed icecast with both mp3 and ogg stream , at different mount points . how to configure ices to play ogg ? i know i'll have to

suggestion: add mp3 support to ices2
It says here there hasn't been much interest in handling mp3 with ices2: http://www.icecast.org/files/ices_docs/faq.html I just wanted to mention that I'm interested in doing so. I use ices for a web-based jukebox project called Tunez. I have tried the other suggested icecast streamers and have had major problems with both of them (muse and liveice). It would be really cool if the

Lame, Bitrates, ReEncoding I
I'd like to use the Bitrate and Reencode features of ices and understand I must recompile with lamelib. However, it's Very Unclear where to begin here. This is noted in the ices-0.2.3 INSTALL file: I installed lame as a debian package so lame.h is in /usr/include/lame/lame.h and libmp3lame.a is in /usr/lib. configure finds everything automatically. <p>I assume we

Realtime resampling/encoding with oggenc
Don't know if anybody is still missing the lame oggenc features for resampling, lowpass/highpass filters etc, but I wrote a little script that uses sox to do all the stuff I need to real-time encode oggenc from the radio, or any input device. #!/bin/bash DATE=`date '+%m-%d-%Y-(%H.%M)'` DESTIN=/video/music/perftoday export DATE=$DATE'-PerformanceToday.ogg' sox -V -r 44100 -c

Quality switch
Hello, just one question: is it possible to implement a "quality switch" to Ogg Vorbis like the -V option of the lame encoder? It's the only thing I'm missing. Everything else is nearly perfect!
