Asym, FYI - I verified that winamp -> 1.3.10 does in fact work, it lets icecast touch both yp.icecast.org and yp.shoutcast.org; hmm, I guess libshout doesn't emulate whatever shoutcast is using close enough. Arrr. My only windows box is a 233mhz and that doesn't seem to handle re-encoding/streaming very well. Louis > At 23:25 3/15/2001 -0500, you wrote: >>Asym, >>

I never had any problems getting my liveice-source streams to list on yp.shoutcast.com using Icecast 1.3.5b1 - though they wouldn't list with later versions. Haven't tried anything since 1.3.7 For a variety of reasons, I started using that 'other' server. But the point is that it *can* be done without resorting to using a Windows source box. -bg --- Bill Goldsmith www.kpig.com

I saw a post a minute ago and stupidly hit the delete button instead of reply, so no quoted response but.. You don't have to relay to a shoutcast server to get listed on yp.shoutcast.com. You probably have metadata disabled, and they won't list you without it. I know it's "experimental" in the config file, but I haven't had any problems with it since icecast 1.3.9,

its just a common util that floats around the net. everyones got it or you can go to google and enter mkpasswd.c and turn up lots of hits. or i got this from icecast CVS 1.1 you can cut it into a file, compile and run. note the freshness date :) ---------------------------->snip here, put in .c file, compile<--------- /* simple password generator by Nelson Minar (minar@reed.edu) *

asked once before and didn't get a reply, but it was probably lost in my back-and-forth with Jack.. where is the encrypted password support for icecast 1.3.10? The documentation references a "mkpasswd.c" source file that doesn't exist anywhere in my icecast directory tree.. -------signature file------- PGP Key Fingerprint: 446B 7718 B219 9F1E 43DD 8E4A 6BE9 D739 CCC5 7FD7

winamp >2.75 -answer on song titles // use_meta_data-
All I can tell you is that I've been unable to ever get meta_data to stream, and the question I sent about it a week or two ago has gone unanswered. I never actually checked that I was using WinAmp 2.75, but I do know that whatever version of winamp I *was* using could stream metadata from other sites. I've searched the archives on xiph and elsewhere in hopes of finding an answer on whether song titles will work. There seems to be no definitive answer. use_meta_data 1 DOES work for WinAmp 2.75 but nothing else I've tried (which includes the latest WinAmp and Sonique). Also, I can get some header by telnetting into my port (see below) but still the "meta_data" issue remains a

also, keep in mind that support for streaming song titles is also a function of the source client you use.... I've been very successful with use_meta_data=1 and using either my DSP source (oddcast) or the Shoutcast DSP source.... and you can always know for sure if song titles are supported on your server by looking at the HTTP response headers from a request of the stream, (your request

Asym, What streaming program are you using? I'm using icecast 1.3.10 with meta data turned on and it doesn't want to list on yp.shoutcast.com. Can you e-mail me your icecast.conf and your streaming config file via e-mail? Thanks... hmm.. metadata question
Ok, the config file says you can get chrips in your audio unless "you're careful." I thought this was mostly fixed in 1.3.9 and greater.. I got all kinds of garbage using it in 1.3.7, but have had no problems in 1.3.9 or 1.3.10 until today. Just a few minutes ago my stream started chirping and squealing.. so I had to disconnect the source and client, and reconnect them.. which

Yes, and the info on how to do that is all in the documentation/readme and the comment blurbs in the config file. -------signature file------- PGP Key Fingerprint: 446B

metadata idea for coders
I haven't looked at the code so forgive me if this is already what it's doing.. Considering the problems with the current metadata implementation.. couldn't it be changed to just cache the data that comes from the source in order to update it if it changes, and then just send it down to the listening clients then in the form of an ID3V2 tag when they first connect, and then only

mkpasswd??
I just started setting up icecast again, after having my dsl down due to the northpoint virus.. this time I did the ./configure --with-crypt option. According to the comments in the config file, I also need to compile the "included" mkpasswd.c. Well, in the 1.3.10 tarball, there is no mkpasswd.c, no mkpasswd*, not even anything *pass*.. any ideas on where else this may be?

I searched a bit around newsgroups and just saw some people having problems with it, but nothing on where to get it.. the comments said it should be in the source somewhere in the tarball, so I

About Live365..
I have successfully set up a IceCast server relay at live365. My stream is 64 Kbit/s. I can se my self if the stream list. And I can find my self if I search on the station name. To create a link to the station I copied the link that I got from live365, and put it in a WinAmp .pls file. My station: http://ramzeus.hn.org/radiolegion/ ~~ Patrik Lindahl

lots of icecast help needed
Hi, I've been running Icecast on my server for over five months now and am having lots of problems with it. I must have pulled out half of my hair on this product, mostly due to lack of support. (I mean, have you ever gotten an answer to your question at icecast.org?) I've tried it all: sc_serv, Icecast, shout, ices, streamcast, liveice. I could greatly use any help. I am using the
