NHW Project - good improvement of very high compression (-l8 to -l13 quality settings)
Hello, Just a quick message to let you know that I have really improved very high compression of the NHW Project from -l8 to -l13 quality settings, and we can still save 2.5KB per .nhw compressed file. Actually I am new to very high compression, it is just 3 months that I am working on it (I put on pause the NHW Project from August 2013 to February 2018 )... And I realize that very high

NHW Project - high compression & community
Hello, I've found some time to get back to the NHW Project. In fact a Xiph forum member told me that even if I will start a new job, he hopes that I will still continue to develop a little the NHW Project, on my spare time.I told him that I would furthermore spend my spare time on the NHW Project if a community around the project could emerge... and he told me that certainly the best way for

NHW Project - new -l8 "very high compression" setting
Hello, The -l8 "very high compression" setting I posted was not really good. Now I have corrected and improved it, and now the -l8 quality setting is really better, more precision and more neatness. I think now it is a good setting, and I have started to compare it with x265 and it can be now competitive. More at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ Do not hesitate to test it and give me

NHW Project - new -l8 "very high compression" setting
Hello, For those interested, I have added a -l8 "very high compression" setting to the NHW Project. I have added an experimental processing to remove details and preserve neatness.I have also now a fast estimation of entropy of wavelet coefficients and I use it accordingly to the image complexity but it is a very first version... With these new processings, the entropy coding schemes

NHW Project - good quality improvement & encoding speed improvement
Hello, Just a quick message to let you know that I have made good quality improvements for very high and extreme compression of the NHW Project (-l8 to -l15 quality settings). The NHW Project starts to be really competitive with x265 (HEVC) at these very high compression ratios.I even find the NHW Project visually better than x265 (HEVC) for mid and high compression! I have also improved encoding

NHW Project - very high compression settings
Hello, I think I have nearly validated the -l8 "very high compression" setting, I have started to work on -l9 setting, and I have just tested these ones against x265 (HEVC), and on rather good quality images, they are very competitive, that's not a joke!!! I have tested -l8 quality setting on 30 rather good quality images against x265, and on 20-22 images I prefer the results of the

NHW Project - improvement of -l7 quality setting - more neatness
Hello, Just a word to let you know that I have improved -l7 high compression quality setting, thanks to a new processing and I have also corrected an error in the residual coding. Now it has more neatness/definition.Files size is also a little smaller (and please keep in mind that the entropy coding schemes are not optimal for now, so we can save 1.5Ko-2Ko per .nhw file). Actually I find -l7

NHW Project - more test with x265 (HEVC) codec
Hello, I don't have worked on the NHW Project this past week (I also have to work on an other project) but I found time today to make an "extensive" testing of x265 (HEVC) and the NHW codec at high compression (-l7 setting). That's right that x265 is a very good codec! Really impressive. The NHW Project is not as good, it can only compete with x265 (HEVC) on quite high quality

NHW Project - improvement of -l8 high compression setting
Hello, For those interested, I have improved -l8 high compression quality setting. This setting is now better, more precision.Files are also a little smaller and I don't have touched the entropy coding schemes, so we can still save 2KB per .nhw compressed file. More at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ I am also working on -l9 quality setting, but it is not ready for now, notably as x265 (HEVC)

NHW Project - Image comparison
Hello, Could some of you take a look at the image comparison between the NHW Project and x265 (HEVC) at high compression, available here: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ . I would be very very interested in your opinion, and it would help me to perfect the NHW Project. For me the NHW Project has more neatness, and x265 has more precision. Else, I was a little lazy these past months, as I

NHW Project - speed measurement 2 - very high compression
Hello, If it could be of interest, here are new speed measurement for -l13 very high compression setting. For x265 (HEVC), I use BPG codec, and this time I use -m 0 setting which uses the fastest encoding setting of x265.I run the .exe 10x times and I pick the best scores. So here are the timings at -l13 very high compression: Encode time: x265 (BPG -m 0): 80ms NHW: 20ms Decode time: x265

NHW Project - new -l18 "extreme" compression quality setting
Hello, I have just added a new -l18 "extreme" compression quality setting to the NHW Project.I find this quality setting very good and actually better than x265 (HEVC). First, I wanted to let you know that compression of the wavelet DC image is really not efficient at extreme compression, I have the fast ideas to improve it, and so we can really save 2.5KB per .nhw compressed files in

NHW Project - quality improvement for -l4,-l5 settings
Hello, I have improved quality for -l4 and -l5 high compression settings. These settings are now really better and very competitive, I now prefer them compared to x265 (HEVC). Update at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/ I am also working on -l6 quality setting, I can simply increase quantization for it but I am not totally satisfied with this solution for now... Looking for more advanced processing

NHW Project - some update
I think Apple is somehow "attached" to the MPEG group. They control the "pools" too. Your codec sounds great. Google could -- if they wanted to -- use it but they have Web^M and webP. Look to Asia. Asus has just launched a new phone. ?? On Mon, Jul 9, 2018, 3:14 PM Raphael Canut <nhwcodec at gmail.com> wrote: > Hello, > > I don't have advanced on the NHW

NHW Project - high compression (-l6 setting and below)
Hello Ken, Many thanks for your reply! Yes, I very need to adapt the NHW codec to any image size. But actually it is the least interesting part, I don't think that it is that difficult (compared to creating high compression settings) but it is very boring, annoying... Really not the part that I prefer... For now, as I am jobless, my aim is to have "pleasure" with the NHW Project and

Yes that would be great as my command line parsing is not good at all. > Does your codec compile under Linux? If not, that's something I can try to work on as well. Hello, Ok, I will post them in a folder on Google Drive and will give the link on my blog page, -because among other things, on my blog page, I can not display 2 bitmap 512x512 images side by side-... Hope it is ok! Cheers, Raphael 2018-07-15 1:41 GMT+02:00 J.B. Nicholson <jbn at forestfield.org>: > Raphael Canut wrote: > >> I downloaded 20 images from the Internet with
