NHW Project - some update
Hello Spork!
As your answer is highly interesting, I wanted to share it with the Theora
community (hope you don't mind).
You're right I should format the code properly, write more separated
functions, make it a library,... short, turn it into something
professional...
It's a lot of work, and I wanted to finish the codec (very high
compression) first... But any help is very welcome!

NHW Project - some update
Hello,
I don't have advanced on the NHW Project this past month, but I have
definitely validated its characteristics and this new version.
The NHW Codec preserves or enhances image neatness and sharpness, which
translates that on good quality images the NHW Codec is globally better
than HEVC, and on degraded (with blur, artifacts) images it is worse than
HEVC because it lacks of precision. I

NHW Project - some update
I think Apple is somehow "attached" to the MPEG group. They control the
"pools" too. Your codec sounds great. Google could -- if they wanted to --
use it but they have Web^M and webP. Look to Asia. Asus has just launched a
new phone. ??

NHW Project - AOM AV1 comparison
Hi Silvia,
Thank you very much for your answer! Your opinion is much appreciated.
Your advice is wisdom, but very quickly to rectify or precise my situation,
I am finishing a 2-year job contract and there will maybe be a "vacation"
period before the next contract (if I find one), so I would like to invest
this time for the NHW Project, but that's right that image/video
compression,

Hello Spork,
Thank you very much for your great help!
So ok, let's create a website for the NHW Project! Anyone who wants to help
is very welcome! Do you want we start first with wix.com or rather from
nearly scratch? I think from scratch would be better as we can really do
what we want, but it will be a lot and lot more difficult to make...

NHW Project - high compression (-l6 setting and below)
Hello Spork,
> If you want though, when I find some time, I can work on supporting a
better command line parsing.
Yes that would be great as my command line parsing is not good at all.
> Does your codec compile under Linux? If not, that's something I can try
to work on as well.
I never tested my codec under Linux )-:, and so it would be also great to
compile it under Linux.I think

I don't have a macOS environment so I won't be able to give you a build.But
it would be also great to have a macOS version.I think now that many bugs
have been corrected, and that the NHW Project can compile ok under clang
and run ok on macOS.
If a forum member, that runs macOS, could give us a build and first let us
know if the code is ok,

NHW Project - high compression (-l6 setting and below)
Hello Ken,
Many thanks for your reply!
Yes, I very need to adapt the NHW codec to any image size. But actually it
is the least interesting part, I don't think that it is that difficult
(compared to creating high compression settings) but it is very boring,
annoying... Really not the part that I prefer... For now, as I am jobless,
my aim is to have "pleasure" with the NHW Project and

NHW Project - new release
Hello,
For those interested, I have made a new version of NHW.This one has more
precision and a little more neatness.
I still find that NHW has a very good neatness -which I find visually more
pleasant than AVIF and x265 for example-, and NHW is still extremely fast
to encode/decode, faster than JPEG!
There are still many improvements that can be done, first one is to adapt
to any arbitrary

NHW Project - speed comparison with x265
Hello,
I am very slowly working on the NHW Project.I recently made a speed
comparison with x265 and wanted to share it with you.
On my processor Intel Core i5-6400, in average the NHW encoder (totally
unoptimized) is x10 times faster to encode than x265 (png decoding time
removed), in average 30ms vs 300ms for a 512x512 24bit color image, and in
average the NHW decoder (totally unoptimized) is

Also, don't forget the option I gave you Ralph, where you can have access
to one of my VPSes. We can create a subdomain for free, but if you want
something like nhw.com, you'd have to register the domain name yourself,
which wouldn't cost too much money.... Then I can help configure it to
point to your page on my VPS. I'll host it all for free. You'll have

NHW new improved version
Hello,
I have improved the results of the NHW codec and so released a new
version. This one has more neatness and more precision, and so is more
interesting.
-As usual, I don't have improved for now the entropy coding schemes, and so
we can still save in average 2.5KB per .nhw compressed file, and even more
with Chroma from Luma for example.-

NHW Project - quality improvement for -l4,-l5 settings
Hello,
I have improved quality for -l4 and -l5 high compression settings. These
settings are now really better and very competitive, I now prefer them
compared to x265 (HEVC).
Update at: http://nhwcodec.blogspot.com/
I am also working on -l6 quality setting, I can simply increase
quantization for it but I am not totally satisfied with this solution for
now... Looking for more advanced processing

NHW Project - new -l19 "extreme" compression quality setting
Hello,
For those interested, I have added a new -l19 "extreme" compression quality
setting to the NHW Project. This -l19 quality setting is really competitive
with x265 (HEVC) on rather good quality images.
An important remark: we can really save 2.5KB in average per .nhw
compressed file as the entropy coding schemes are not optimal, especially
at extreme compression.I have the fast

NHW Project
Hello,
I have (slowly) worked these last couple weeks on the psychovisual model of
NHW because some people reproach me that it washes details out... so I
restored a little more details but this consumes some bits and actually it
turned out that it also decreases neatness, and so when you compare at the
same compression ratio, actually I find the current version visually better
because it has a

NHW Project - some update & call for members
Hello,
These last 2 months I have been in contact with a very impressive and
friendly engineer from Intel who has written an article on my codec and the
4-5 new codecs in general that competes with HEVC.He finally answered me
that as Intel is a founding member of the Alliance for Open Media and
chairs several MPEG WG around HEVC, they won't be able to put extra
resources on the NHW Project.So
