Inexpensive Flac player for separates system?
The following is mostly for Nick, but perhaps there are others who might be interested in one part or another of the following... Nick, I think we're basically on the same page here. I'll first try to cover some of my basic ideas in general, then respond to your specific comments inline. For one thing, I have long believed that it is smart to keep analog audio circuits

Sound card problem in acoustic echo cancellation
From: Steve Underwood <steveu at coppice.org> > It seems some cards use a PLL for their ADC, so they can lock to an > incoming SPDIF signal, but always use a local crystal clock source for > their DAC. These cards do not have their ADC and DAC synchronised. Do common on-board or PCI sound card lock to some incoming signal? Yes, there is a crystal oscillator and a PLL or divider to

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Hi all, The conclusion of the discussion is that most sound cards indeed have different capture and playing frequencies for the unknown reasons. But we all know the adaptive filter of the AEC relies on the synchronization of the far-end and near-end sampling rates. Then Has anybody tried to use speex AEC in Windows system? How do you solve this problem? (I have tested speex AEC. In most

New entropy source proposal.
Hi. I've been playing a bit with "use sound card as an entropy source" idea. This simple program does what I wanted: http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/misc/sndrand.tbz The program is very simple, it should be run with two arguments: % sndtest /dev/dspW 1048576 > rand.data This command will generate 1MB of random data. With my sound card: pcm0: <Intel ICH3 (82801CA)>

What systems are you using to listen to Oggs?
What rigs do you folks use to listen to your music? I have a P-III 500 with Altec Lansing speakers in the dining room and a P-II 350 with Labtec speakers in the Guestroom/office. Sorry, I can't remember what model the Lansings are off the top of my head. The Labtec speakers are fairly cheap. I have a PCI ensonique sound card in the P-III system. I not sure what kind of sound card is in the

Sound card problem in acoustic echo cancellation
Then why ONE sound card have different capture and playback rate? It must be ONE single physical clock generator which is used by both ADC and DAC in the sound card, isn't it? If you are a hardware engineer. Will you design two different physical clock for ADC and DAC seperately? What on earth causes this problem? Who knows its intrinsic real reason? Isn't there any other solutions? For

New type of copy-protected audio CDs are coming...
>From the article: "The record business wants to lock down songs on a new breed of CDs. Is this the end of rip, mix and burn? We visit the labels' laboratories to learn more about what 'stickiness' means to music." Such a nice codec! Soundcard recommendations?
Wow! Ogg is sounding _really_ fine these days. Waaaay past my ability to tell from CD on my crappy sound card, even at pretty low bitrates. Which leads to my question: there's a huge difference between what my sound card puts out and what my CD player can do (Rotel RCD-950 to Classe' Audio Twenty preamp to Acurus A80 amp to Epos ES-12 speakers, in case anyone cares). If my computer is

Multichannel files
Hi, As I´ve understood things, the Ogg Vorbis format supports more that two channels (stereo). Is there any tools to encode x sourcefiles into one .ogg file? I am a musican and am thrilled with the ide of makeing music in surround (or in more than stereo). This leads to my next question: is there (developing) any decoders for multichannel oggs to, let us say, 4.1 or 5.1 surround? Wouldn´t it
