-O20 ?
libogg's configure script passes -O20 as a CFLAG. This is causing problems when using non-gcc compilers, such as clang (see http://tinyurl.com/7zl5bka).
O20 seems like an odd optimization level. Is there a reason for it? I've never seen this before. For example, libspeex (another xiph project) just uses -O2.
Thanks,
aaron

LaTeX in system()
Dear list,
I want to run latex from an R script:
system("latex mysource.tex")
or:
texi2dvi("mysource.tex", pdf = TRUE, clean = FALSE, quiet = TRUE,
texi2dvi = latex)
but latex does not seem to be on the search path:
/bin/sh: line 1: latex: command not found.
Although 'printenv PATH' tells me that the usr/texbin is looked for

"file name too long" error during R CMD INSTALL
Hi all,
I am attempting to install a package called phylobase from
source directory. It all seems to work until the end, at
which point it looks like the last compile command fails
because the line is too long...perhaps because the g++
command line also includes "Loading ~/.Rprofile...", like this:

"valid users" + ldap on Solaris 10 problems
Hello,
We have just migrated a server from sun solaris 8 to sun solaris 10. In
the old machine we had a Samba 3.0.20b and in the new one, we have samba
3.0.21, both compiled like this with no problems:
env LD_FLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib" ./configure --with-ldapsam --without-pam
--with-quotas --with-ldap --with-included-popt --with-acl-support
--with-libsmbclient

Solidworks on Samba
Dear friend,
I saw your post
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2008-November/144686.html about running
Solidworks with SAMBA as a file server.
I'm getting the same issue with the ~files....
Did you solved this issue? Can you explain me how?
Thanks,

Plan for libogg release
Hi all,
I am curious, when do you plan to release new libogg? The current release is
unusable on Mac because the u_int32_t problem. So I have to build against
the trunk.
If you are not ready with other features, why not release a small point
release just to fix such an contained and small issue.
Miki.

search without flush.
Hi,
Is it possible to perform a search without flushing the index? I've got
an application that updates the index every 4 hours but I need to be
able to search the new data fairly quickly after the index is updated.
The problem revolves around the fact that the update is often much less
than 10 000 documents so it isn't being flushed until quite a bit
latter. I realise I can do a flush

./configure warning (PR#14104)
Full_Name:
Version: devel_2009-12-01
OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (146.87.149.164)
Can ./configure be made/told to look in
/usr/share/texmf/bin
instead of
/usr/bin or /usr/local/bin
for pdftex and pdflatex?
This saves me from creating symlinks, which, once there, create issues with
other programmes I am trying to compile.
Thanks

I'm using WinNT 4.0 as my network PDC. The Samba server is only a member

Any idea how to solve this issue?
Thanks,

Evaluate values in `Sys.setenv`
Hi all,
I would like to know if there is any way to evaluate the values in
`Sys.setenv` before setting the environment variables. For example, if we
want to add a path to the environment variable `PATH`, we can do this in a
terminal
```
> export PATH=~/mypath:$PATH
> echo $PATH
/Users/jeff/mypath:...
```
However, this style of assignment is not allowed in `Sys.setenv`, it

Mixed effects model where nested factor is not the repeated across treatments lme???
Hi,
I have searched the archives and can't quite confirm the answer to this.
I appreciate your time...
I have 4 treatments (fixed) and I would like to know if there is a
significant difference in metal volume (metal) between the treatments.
The experiment has 5 blocks (random) in each treatment and no block is
repeated across treatments. Within each plot there are varying numbers

I have downloaded a file that I don't know how to describe correctly.
It contains R code and Latex, and I should be able to reproduce an
analysis by running an R script in this folder.
There is a line in the R script:
junk <- system(paste("/usr/texbin/pdflatex ",latexFiles[i1]),
intern=TRUE)
that needs to be modified to run on my computer. I use WinEdt with

Rosetta Stone suddenly stopped working
Hello,
I installed Rosetta Stone 3 yesterday, and it worked perfectly. I ran it several times. When I tried to run it again today, it just crashed at the outset with the following error messages:
Code:
ALSA lib pcm.c:2171:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so

Update Broke Rosetta Stone
I have RS version 3.4.7 and I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 x64. When I start the app, everything works up until I click my username, then the main application area is blank (title bar and exit and help menus are still visible and functional). It has worked fine for months; the only thing that has changed is that I recently accepted the latest system wine update. I ran the app from the command line:

latex{Hmisc} cannot find xdvi on MAC OS X
Hello.
I am posting this on behalf of a student in my class. I have been
introducing them to R.
I suspect that the problem I need help with is not so much an R
issue, but a MAC config issue, but I don't have enough MAC
experience to know what to do.
Anyway, on to the problem. We are using Frank Harrell's Hmisc
and Design packages. This student also wishes to use the latex

Problems seeking with liboggz
Hi,
I intend to use Ogg+Speex for voice recording/playback in a VoIP app.
I am experimenting with liboggz to get acquainted with its API.
As test files I am using some Ogg-Speex files converted from WAV files
with speexenc.exe.
I wrote a little testing app in Visual Studio 2010 under Windows 7.
I defined OggzReadPage and OggzReadPacket callbacks with

Big Problem with ml-4500
Hi All
I bought the Samsung ML-4500 Laser Printer.
I installed it on Mandrake 9.0 successfully using cups and I cant print from
the Linux itself.
I added it to the Samba as Shared Printer.
The Problem started when I wanted to connect from one of winblows :(
The process required me to install the driver from the CD but for my
surprise I couldn't install the drivers as the Winblow OS

Setting puppetmaster modulepath from inside manifests
Greetings all
Am trying to solve a problem, not entirely sure I''m approaching it
from the right angle.
Setting up a reasonably big site (servercount in the four digits) with
puppetmaster and clients (puppet 2.6.x). We are required to have
versioned modules (base SOE module, app X module, app Y module, etc -
all with multiple classes etc inside) managed on an underlying SVN
repository.
