The main factor here is the QuickTime version you have installed. If
it's 7 or later you should be able to use XiphQT.

XiphQT and OSX 10.9
Hi,
After running 10.9 for a while, I noticed iTunes would no longer play my ogg files. I found a workaround suggesting that I force iTunes to run in 32 bit mode. After doing this, iTunes informs me that it can only be run in 64 bit mode.
The reason appears to be that in 10.9, Quicktime APIs have been largely deprecated. Before I realized that was the cause, I was trying to build 64 bit

Playing Theora video in Keynote on MacOS X
Hi all,
I have XiphQT installed and have some Ogg theora videos I would like
to play in Apple's Keynote presentation software. They play fine in
iTunes using XiphQT but don't work in Keynote. I have each video in
two formats: (1) in a ".ogg" file, and (2) in a ".mov" file created
by opening the ".ogg" file in QuickTime Pro and saving it as a

XiphQT for Windows 0.1.5, iTunes 10.5.0.142, QuickTime 7.7.1, Windows Vista
SP2 Home Basic 32 bit.
It worked with iTunes 10.0.1.22 (QuickTime 7.6.8). But stopped after last
update of iTunes and QuickTime.

XiphQT and QuickTime X
I've just finished installing Apple's shiny new Mac OS X version 10.6
(aka "Snow Leopard.") One of the very first things I did was place
XiphQT 0.1.9 into /Library/Components. It appears that it doesn't work
with the new QuickTime X: The .ogg and .ogv files are grayed out in
the Open File dialog box and cannot be selected. Right-clicking on the
file, selecting Open With, and

Welcome to the "Vorbis" mailing list
I'm a newcomer to Ogg Vorbis and I am trying to get it to work on my
Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Quicktime 7.5.5 so that I can play the following
CBC radio stations through iTunes.
http://www.cbc.ca/listen/ogg.html
I tried XiphQT and couldn't get that to work so I downloaded Ogg
Drop. It seemed to install fine, but I still can't get either of
those radio stations to play either from

Xiph QuickTime Components project announcement
Hi,
Just to let you know about the new Xiph QuickTime Components project.
It should be of interest to people wanting to use ogg/vorbis files
(and other Xiph formats, as well) in combination with QuickTime-based
applications (e.g. see: iTunes).
The project pages are at: http://www.xiph.org/quicktime/
The first OS-X(ppc) binary builds are out, as well.

Ogg/Vorbis fenced out of Apple's airport airtunes

re all,
a quick message to ask if anyone had the same experience trying to
play Ogg/Vorbis encoded music via wireless airport connection (the new
system Apple uses to playback on their speakers via wifi).
i use pulse-audio to interact with A's proprietary system: works quite
well, but still has some buffering glitches, so its more

Importing cds in OGG & FLAC in itunes/OSX
Hi all ,
Just to be sure : even if we can now use XiphQT to have import/export
quicktime function on mac OSX for vorbis and theora , we still can't tell
itunes to import a CD in Ogg vorbis , if I have understood ?
is this because itunes handle certains things like playing streams and
encoding Cds in a non quicktime standard way ?

Fwd: [Xiph] #1698: XiphQT for Mac would need a (silent) installer
hello theora lovers!
I opened few weeks ago this issue on Xiph tracker and I understand that
there are higher priority issues to dela with before creating an installer.
However, it could be a Blocker for my theora HTML5 video deployement on some
websites, I explain :
With the new beta State of Chrome frame for IE, IE is no more a problem (at
least if you have admin rights) , So the 40% IE

flac files playable in iTunes 5.0.1 ?
Hi,
Is the recent version 0.1.5 (08.05.2006) of XiphQT compatible with
iTunes 5.0.1 and Mac OSX 10.4? I am trying to get flac files to play
in my iTunes and hope I don't have to upgrade iTunes and get all the
junk that comes with it. i already have ogg support, so this is an
incremental improvement.

XiphQT with Thusnelda for QuickTime X
Any progress in this issue? Or is the whole XiphQT project dead?
Any 64bit package of XiphQT for MacOSX Snow Leopard on its way? Any solution on its way, which works with Quicktime X on Snow Leopard and which doesn't urge/force you to install and use the old Quicktime 7 player? Any solution on its way, solving the /Library/Components problem on MacOSX Snow Leopard/Quicktime X?

Wine and iTunes6: Gets quicktime version wrong?
Hi all,
I've been trying to install iTunes with wine. I've followed Frank's
instructions...got them installed, but, when I run iTunes, it complains
that quicktime version required is 7.0.3 or later, and that I somehow
have 7.0.d0....
I've seen others out there having same problem, but, no resolutions.
Any suggestions or links?
I've tried on wine 0.9.10 and now emerging

XiphQT
Not sure where to file bugs against XiphQT...
I have noticed that Theora encoded videos played through Quicktime (on
Mac) using XiphQT are incorrectly reproducing the color of the video,
and appear washed out. The same videos can be played via VLC and Firefox
and are true to the original - so I don't believe it's a problem with
the videos themselves or the encoding.

XiphQT 0.1.8 released
Dear all,
0.1.8 release of the Xiph QuickTime Components (http://xiph.org/quicktime/)
is now out.
This is mainly a bugfix release, fixing the video stalling issue and a
QuickTime-crashing/iTunes-freezing bug. Also, the file extension and
MIME mappings in the Ogg importer have been updated, following on the
recent discussions.

(no subject)
Hi guys. I downloaded the xiph-qt-win32-0.1.5.zip file from your website. I unzipped and placed the .qtx file in C:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTCompenents. It doesn't install anything. There's no .exe file for it, and even if there shouldn't be, iTunes won't play .FLAC files or even .ogg files. Am I missing something here? I can't see an installation process. Is it possible to

need help
Dear Vorbis folks,
I use a 64bit MacBookPro, have installed the XiphQT to Library/Components as instructions say.
I have set iTunes to accept 32 bit as instruction say.
Using Safari, on a page (in Wikipedia), when I click on ?Play?, a new tab/browser window opens and I get the message: ?Missing Plug-In?. The url of the page where I get the ?Missing Plug-In? message is:
