newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message: Incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVERNAME Entering a username and password (from /etc/passwd) returns: \\SERVERNAME is not

Login annoyance
OK, now I have everything working. I have my smbpasswd file setup and I verified that it is working. Very cool. I still have one question regarding an annoyance with the login window. Although my users and I can log in successfully, the window still has this annoying message (see attachment): Incorrect password or unknown username for: \\SERVERNAME Can I make this go away? Is it a

GUIDs vs. Auto-Increment id's
I know this thread has been discussed before, but I have run into this problem and would like to re-open it... I have come to a point in my project where I need to provide an import/export feature for Active Records. Since a user could export off one system and import onto another auto-increment integers will not work (collisions on ids due to lack of uniquness). Listed below is an initial list

SAMBA: winbind ID's disappearing
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-October/113181.html This sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing... for the second time. I'm starting to think it happens whenever the AD folks create a new domain in the forest. (we just added our asia pacific region a couple days ago) Did you ever figure out what's happening? How did you resolve the issue? I remember last time I had

Unique call ID's across several systems

User ID's with Special Characters??
Hello List: I am new to this list and this is my first posting. Presently, I am using Red Hat 9.0 and soon planning to switch over to CentOS. I have one question. In RH user names can not contain special characters. For example my UID is 'kbajwa' and my email address is kbajwa at tibonline.net. Since '@' in the email address is a special character, I can not use my email as my

No mapping between usernames and ID's was done
To Whom This May Concern, I am getting the error "No mapping between usernames and ID's was done" when trying to add a Win2k SP2 box to my Samba domain. I have checked various smb.conf files and not noticed that I am missing anything etc. I was able to get to this machine to join a samba domain approx 6 months ago but had to scrap the domain due to my samba box dying. I have hacked

Sync'ing user and group ID's
Heya, I'm new to this particular area of linux admin, and I noticed the behaviour of the new samba CIFS's linux driver. The only problem was that the user and group ID's of the files in the mounted directories were rather strange, as these ID's were not in sync between the server and the client. My question is how do I keep them in sync, how I would deal with, say, a laptop

Winbind & user ID's on multiple servers
We're looking at setting up Linux Authentication to our AD servers using winbind and need to know if there is a way to keep all the user IDs in sync across the Linux servers. The way I see it now, the user ID is assigned numerically depending on the order users log in to a server. Could make for issues if NFS mounted directories are involved. Thanks - Mike

My id's are all float?
I''m using Oracle to back my Rails app, and I noticed somewhere along the line that if my ID is declared as NUMBER then it wants to show up as "123.0" whenever I ask for it (i.e. link_to and other things). This didn''t seem to be a problem, so I was ignoring it. Recently upgraded to Rails 1.2, however, and now that doesn''t route anymore. Is there some place

Create Strings of Column Id's
Does anyone know how this is don? I have a large matrix where I extract specific columns into txt files for further use. To be able to keep track of which txt files contain which columns I want to name the filenames with the column Id's. The most basic example would be to use an for() loop together with paste(), but the result is blank. Not even NULL. this is the concept of thecode i use:

Weird problem with mixed up id's
Several users get sometimes the wrong profile. I have one example here: The user bfs1a-15 logs in. The batch file is created, transfered to the client and executed. Among others there is a line saying: net use p: /home The user gets an error, saying "the password for \\fileserver\fg13z-15 is wrong, type in the for \\fileserver\fg13z-15:" (translated from german). I know from the past

Dozens of SIP NOTIFY messages with unique call ID's, and the same mailbox repeated multiple times on 1.6.2.6
(sorry this is so long) I could really use a helping hand. I have a 1.6.2.6 installation using LDAP as the realtime engine for voicemail users, SIP users, queues, and some custom hotdesking families. I'm also using ODBC voicemail storage. The issue that I am having is that the UA's (Polycom 501's, 301's and 430's) are receiving multiple SIP NOTIFY messages when the user
