Unless anyone objects, I will remove these in a week's time. Cheers, Erik --

FLAC 1.0.4 beta released
All, I have just finished uploading the source release for FLAC 1.0.4 beta to Sourceforge; there are no binary releases. See the included doc/html/news.html for the changes since 1.0.3; there are quite a few. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.4_beta-src.tar.gz?download Please beat up on this as much as possible in the next week or two and try and turn up bugs. Here's a

educational doc about FLAC
Hello FLAC-dev, Do you know if there is some good educational documentation showing FLAC's internal design in a few steps, like this doc for monkeysaudio : http://www.monkeysaudio.com/theory.html If not, what is the principle of the algorithm in a few big steps (example : 1. Conversion to mid/side instead of L/R channels 2. Predictor 3. Entropy coding) ? Best regards. --------------

Errors compiling flac in Visual Studio Express 2005
Hi! I have trouble compiling the flac library using Microsofts free (yes MS gives it away including the optimizing C++ compiler msvc8.0) Visual Studio Express 2005. I get the output shown below. Does anyone have a way to make flac compile in VS 2005? Thanks! Ulrik 1>------ Rebuild All started: Project: replaygain_analysis_static, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>Deleting

FLAC & Monkey's Audio GUI
Going back through old messages I saw Mark's comment about meeting resistance to FLAC because of lack of a GUI. Yes, there is the FLAC frontend mentioned on the home page, but maybe that is not enough. Well, since there's no way I'm ever going to write a windows GUI, I thought, why not trick another one into using FLAC? So my first effort is the Monkey's Audio GUI which people

Feature request FLAC
Dear all, I am an active FLAC user and like the program a lot! Thanks for your great work. Since I am not a developer I cannot modify the program on my own. Maybe you might be interested in features I would find useful. Maybe others find them interesting as well and you find the time to implement them. 1. Add encoder options: a) Skip silence (leading and ending) would give the option to skip

stat() and Windows
I tried to compile FLAC on Windows (the winamp2 plugin as a test) and I encoutered a problem. The stat() function and the associated structure doesn't exist on Windows (Visual Studio 5/6). But _stat and the structure with the same name does exist. So would it be possible to change stat() and struct stat ? I did the following in the code : #define STAT(x,y) _stat(x,y) typedef struct stat

Feature request FLAC
I vote for #2. I don't see the options in #1 as strictly going with the philosophy of FLAC being a lossless codec although neither one seems like a bad idea if implemented properly. More generally part b of #1 would allow you to select any channel(s) from a source and just encode those channels. For example you may want to encode only 3 channels of a 4 channel source or 5 of 8 or 1 of 8,

flac 1.3.0pre3 pre-release
Hi all, The latest pre-release is here: http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/flac/beta/flac-1.3.0pre3.tar.xz but there will probably need to be at least one more. I've tested this on x86_64-linux powerpc-linux i386-openbsd5.2 i386-freebsd9 The majority of changes since the last pre-release is the addition of Janne Hyv?rinen's utf8 I/O functionality. Janne's
