Port Forwarding Trouble with Mandrake MNF
Please excuse my ignorance as I''m a linux newbie. Basically I have a setup of an adsl ethernet modem (nated and then everything forwarded to the external ip of my Mandrake mnf firewall) connected to the mnf firewall which then connects to the lan. internet <--> adsl modem <--> mnf firewall <--> lan There''s only 2 nics in the mnf firewall so it''s a

Rearranging the furniture....
Hi Tom and All, I have been quietly watching the list for the last year (no new issues for me that weren''t covered in the docs or promptly "bug-fixed" by Tom. Boy, has this grown exponentially! Anyway, back to the point (the proverbial rearranging the furniture)... I have been evaluating Mandrake''s MNF as an upgrade for my Firewall box. If I do this( and even if I

Entries in /var/log/messages
I have quite a few entries in /var/log/messages for connection attempts. Is there anything other than ignoring them I can do? Example is below. Aug 21 15:48:19 machine sshd(pam_unix)[17903]: check pass; user unknown Aug 21 15:48:19 machine sshd(pam_unix)[17903]: authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=ssh ruser= rhost=wsip-24-234-149-156.lv.lv.cox.net THanks, Jerry

Setting up new firewall
Using Mandrake MNF which uses shorewall as it''s firewall. My firewall is simple with just two interfaces. One on the internet one on the local network. I can''t browse out to the internet with a browser. Or connect to my external mail server. If I set up the proxy server and set my browser to connect via the proxy I can browse the internet. But still can''t get mail to

Multiple Internet facing Nics - Gateway issue
I have a server with 4 nics. Two are using different internet connections, both with static IP's, and two are connected to our private network. The two internet facing nics seem to be battling over the gateway designation. Which ever I designate as the gateway the other stops responding to incoming traffic. I need both to listen to inbound traffic. One for our main web page and the other

Diagnosing IPv6 routing
On 4/28/2020 3:17 PM, Chris Adams wrote: > - gateway sends a router solicitation and gets a router advertisement > with "stateful config" set, which tells gateway to do DHCPv6 (but > default route comes from RA) I'm not seeing any outbound IPv6 traffic from my CentOS 7 box on the WAN interface. I do see RA's emitting from the LAN interface, from radvd. Is there

Problems in sending emails
Hello, I''m new in the list. I''ve installed Mandrake MNF and it works fine but I''ve a problem in sending emails. Small text mails can go out but bigger ones, with attachements, have problems. My network is formed by Windows workstations and only the firewall is a Linux box. The first simptom is the reaching of ISP''s server time out and then my mail client goes in

Dual personality Server (network pass through)
I have 3 nics in a NATed gateway file server. Two nics (eth1, eth2) provide dhcp and nfs services to an internal subnet via a dedicated switch. The other nic (eth0) connects to an external WAN switch to provide net access to the systems in the subnet. --- eth1 WAN switch eth0 --- | SUBNET switch --- eth2 Question: Is it

KVM, VLAN and Bridges and bonding
Hi all, I use CentOS5.x + Xen in production for virtualization. I use it with bridged vlan networks and bonding (active-backup) like that: eth0 eth1 | | ------- | bond0-------bond0.10---------bond0.12 ... | | | | vlanbr10 vlanbr12 dom0 | | ------------- -------------- | |

IPv4 192.168.71.1 'leaks out onto WAN.
Arch = x86_64 OS = CentOS-6.4 (centos) with all updates applied to date. On our gateway host eth0 is the WAN access and eth1 is the LAN. I wish to activate the address 192.185.71.1 on eth1. The ifcfg-eth1:192071 file contains this: NAME="" BOOTPROTO=none MACADDR="" IPV6INIT=no DEVICE=eth1:192071 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 MTU="" BROADCAST=192.168.71.255 ONPARENT=no

Connecting ethX devices directly to a KVM/QEMU guest OS (no bridging)
Hello CentOS gurus, and a belated Happy New Year (or an early Happy Chinese New Year). I'm in the process of building a CentOS-6 KVM host machine whose only function will be to run four independent 'm0n0wall' firewall guest instances. I have a couple of quad-port Intel NICs to provide four WAN-side and four LAN-side ports, which will not be shared with any other guests. Remote

IPSec pass through
I''m getting insane here. I''m running shorewall 1.3.11 with iptables 1.2.5 and freeswan 1.97 on a 2.4.18-8 kernel aka MNF. The setup is a followed: Lan (192.168.1.x) - FW (eth1 192.168.1.254 - eth0 64.x.y.71) - router 64.x.y.65 (which is default GW on eth0) -internet - 161.a.b.c (FW-1) So a windows client with checkpoint tries to connect to a vpn-1 server on the internet. authentication ok but connection disconnects
To whom it corresponds, I have been trying to connect my RHEL4 machine through public key authentication against a windows server 2003 machine running OpenSSH for Windows v3.8.1p1-1. I set up everything: keys, user, etc. Doing sftp -vv user@<wsip> I see that authentication went ok but somehow, connection hangs up. I removed anti-virus and other security software on the ws2003 machine

From network-scripts to NetworkManager on a router : questions
Hi, I'm running CentOS 7 on all my servers, in three different contexts : 1. simple local server 2. public facing server 3. router/gateway/firewall I'm currently in the process of moving my KISS-style network-scripts-style configurations to something more orthodox based on NetworkManager. Scenarios (1) and (2) caused no problems, but (3) is giving me some headache. Let me

FBSD All-in-one security box?
Hey *, as I sweat through another day of crap dealing with an all-in-one box (firewall, IDS, AVS, report generating, soon to be a VPN server) I'm wondering if someone has started a project to put some freeware together in some semblance of sanity on a FBSD box. There's basically nothing that this box does that a combo of IPFW (or another bsd filter), snort, ntop, and some other freeware

centos-7 reinstall
I have a test system that I am using to investigate CentOS-7. I note the following difficulty when booting from the Minimal Install DVD. Neither on the initial install nor on subsequent attempts at re-installing CentOS-7 can I set the IPv4 interface to a static IP address. I can configure it but I cannot save the changes. The save button remains greyed out. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a

Virtual Interface
Hi Guys, I want to create multiple virtual interfaces on a system running linux 2.6. The main requirment being, to assign unique MAC address fo each of the virtual interfaces. I need to know, if this is possible and will really appriciate if someone can provide me pointer in this direction. Thanks a lot. R.
