Ok, the patch from 2003 about improving seeking still didn't make it to CVS, so here is another try. I made some benchmarking with the test_seeking utility from flac sources to show how bad the current seeking is, especially without seektable. Track used for the experiment had about 50 minutes. [PATCH] stream_encoder : Improve selection of residual accumulator width
In the precompute_partition_info_sums_ function, instead of selecting 64-bit accumulator when the signal bps is larger than 16, revert to the original approach based on partition size, but make room for few extra bits to not overflow with unusual signals where the average residual magnitude may be larger than bps. It slightly improves the performance with standard encoding levels and 16-bit files

bitreader optimizations
Hi, attached are patches that improve decoding speed a bit. The first patch improves the bit scan macro used for decoding unary values, the second one adds a GCC inline assembly for bswap and the third patch replaces the read_rice_block function. In my testing it turned out to be even faster than the _ia32_bswap function. If the code produced by MSVC is faster as well, I'd suggest to remove

I have few notes: It seems there is changed API in CVS again. So, what about adding function like unsigned FLAC__format_frame_size(const FLAC__Frame *frame) which returns size of the frame in bytes. This can be useful, for example, in xmms plugin to display current bitrate like vorbis plugin does. If 'PERFORMER' field is missing in vorbis comment, it would be nice to display

lpc slowdown
I have noticed lpc slowdown both in encoding and decoding, not related to new config.h stuff. It seems there is wrong choosing of fastest possible version of lpc function. xmms-plugin problems
Hi, i'm using xmms-plugin from flac-0.9, i found following problems. Back-seeking cause, that .flac is not played all. It's caused by StreamDecoderPrivate variable samples_decoded and function stream_decoder_frame_sync_, which compare it against whole length of stream. I don't know what is meaning of this varible (samples decoded from last reset or for whole life of decoder). So i
