hi i was wondering if it's possible to tell me what the theoretical best compression ratio the flac encoder can do, because i was wondering what the future of flac will bring us. So this question is probably best addressed to Josh: can we suspect much better compression ratio in the future or is the encoder already at his *almost* peak compression level. thx in advance!

For the interested, the Phatbox (a car audio system) now has firmware to support FLAC files. I have a news bullet on the FLAC site: http://flac.sourceforge.net/news.html#20020213 This is the first hardware support for FLAC (more is coming) and I think the first support of any non-proprietary lossless audio format for any hardware. Kudos to Phatnoise for taking the lead. Josh

Hi FLAC team. I feel I have found a super high compression way of FLAC. I have tested a 1 hour WAV file of 440HTZ with a 5,25,50,75,100 normalize volume preset. This dramatically changes the compression size of the end FLAC file even though the WAV file size is identical for all 5 WAV files. Only the volume is different. When you renormalize the WAV to its original volume the file is still 100%
