ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags
Lo and behold, the new version of grip (http://www.nostatic.org/grip) has
ID3V2 support.
I want to be able to rip from grip, extract the data from the FLACs into
WAVs, normalize the WAVs, then re-encode them into FLACs.
How can I make sure the ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags stored by grip are saved in
between the FLACs? What shell commands can I use to store the tags in a
temp file?
Thanks for

where is libid3-3.8.so.3
I searched for libid3-3.8.so.3 with yum:
# yum search \*libid3-3.8\*
but it returns "No Matches found"
Am I not searching correctly, or does this not exist in CentOS 5.7?
tnx

Tag Proposal -> Tag Standard
Alright. So, the tag proposal that has been labored over for some
months has now been reclassified a bit. There new URL is now here:
http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tag-recommendations.html
And is prefaced by the following statement:
"The following recommendations were developed by a community of
Ogg/Vorbis users for their own use."
I believe the implication is that this document

Wanted: Ripper that uses ID3V2 and FLAC
I've been with FLAC since 0.7, and I've loved the FLAC files I've ripped
with grip, converted from FLAC 0.8 to 0.9, and played constantly on my
desktop.
And then I noticed the truncated ID3 tags in my FLAC files. I at first
thought the problem lied in FLAC; I posted to this list, hoping for a
solution. But then I realized my trusty GRIP was the flawed program.
Now re-ripping my

[Flac-users] How do I encode a FLAC with tags?
So there are no command line options like in oggenc to do artist and
misc tags? Sure if you've got a solution that I don't have to do from
scratch then post away! :-)
Thanks!

[st.n@gmx.net: Bug#200435: xmms-flac: doesn't properly support long files]
severity 200435 normal
thanks
I received this bug report from a Debian user. I can't think of any reason
offhand why the command line tool would work while the xmms plugin would
fail.

FLAC 1.0.4 beta released
All,
I have just finished uploading the source release for FLAC 1.0.4 beta
to Sourceforge; there are no binary releases. See the included
doc/html/news.html for the changes since 1.0.3; there are quite a few.
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.4_beta-src.tar.gz?download
Please beat up on this as much as possible in the next week or two and
try and turn up bugs. Here's a

ices cvs crashing
Well, hi folks: I am still having this problem with ices crashing
regularly. I have upgraded to todays cvs for ices and icecast hoping
that would take care of it but no such luck. I am not sure just what
is going on. It seems to happen fairly often which is not exactly
making my listeners happy. I will include the relevant portion of the
ices.log below. I would appreciate any suggestions

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Awesome, I'm psyched for 1.0.3.... the ID3v1 winamp2 support will be a
neat addition, as is the faster decodes. Will 24-bit audio play nice with
the final public version of 1.0.3?

winamp plug-in enhancement/bugfix
josh,
thanks for the feedback. now i can start encoding like mad knowing that the
generated flac files are ok =)
(flac -t said the files were ok, despite metaflac's complaints).
i noticed that without the flac-for-winamp plug-in installed, winamp
correctly displays the id3 filename (e.g. "Bjork - Human Behavior") in the
playlist and also displays the id3 tags in the file

ID3-style information
I have a CD collection of about 20 discs that I currently archive on my
hard disk in MP3 format.
No, I do not like lossy compression. No, I do not like closed standards.
No, I do not like software patents (Fraunhofer).
In fact, I do not even need compression at this point, as my hard disk
capacity is greater than the sum total of the CDs' WAV-format sizes.
However, I need its ID3

[Flac-users] Open URL from Winamp
Hurm.. How difficult would it be to implement? I have experience
developing Winamp plug-ins, and it seems that the spec for streaming
flac files is written pretty well. I'd be happy to work on adding this
functionality.

me how to insert things such as Artist, album etc. into the FLAC file?
I'd like to do this at encode time via the command line.
